There are places that are scary and there are places that are truly haunted. SPOOKED, centers on one of the most notorious haunted hot spots in the US, the Waverly Hills Sanatorium. Built in the 1920's to house the victims of a new virus outbreak back in the day called “The White Plague” or known today as tuberculosis . There are claims of up to 63,000 deaths or more that occurred in the sanatorium up until it’s closing in 1982, when it was first converted into the long-term center, Woodhaven. People who have walked the dark hallways, have seen many things such as a girl with no eyes, a little boy, shadow people and moving orbs. Video, still pictures and EVPS (Electric Voice Phenomena) all have revealed that there is in fact spirits of the dead roaming the once sickened halls of this purgatory like institution.
Film makers Christopher Saint Booth, twin brother of Philip Adrian Booth who directed the film THE DEATH TUNNEL (Sony Pictures) which is also based upon Waverly Hills infamous death tunnel where the dead were once wheeled, hidden away from the patients and visitors alike. Along with co-director Shane Dax Taylor bring a very down to earth, straight talking documentary about this ghost hunter’s paradise. Using Keith Age, President/Founder of the Louisville Ghost Hunters Society as a host and tour guide throughout the sanatorium.
One thing is for sure and very evident, both film makers are able to not only reproduce the eerie atmosphere that surrounds the sanatorium, it is too the point of you actually develop shivers as you are guided floor by floor from the safety of your own chair in your warm and comfy home. Bombarded with images of darkened shadow people roaming the hallways highlighted with only a flashlight of two. Images of ghostly like figures and mysterious imp like creatures, all unseen most of the time to the naked eye but never the less right next to you at that very moment. Yes folks, this maybe a ghost hunters paradise, but to the weak at heart and knees, this is a tour da force head on with unexpected.
Everything you fear, every nightmare you’ve had, they all pale to what you will witness while watching this. Complete darkness engulfs you, uncertainty floods your every thought as the unknown begins to stare right directly at you. This is exactly what is projected not only from the documentaries standpoint but the actual location. Of course this is coming from someone like myself who can only convey this from what is shown to me through this film. Pretty much telling you just how effective SPOOKED really is. This is not some teen-slasher horror marathon pushed into your face as you are sublimely told to expect a sequel in the next few months, this is the real deal.
The documentary is very thorough in it’s history, giving you a complete back history of the Waverly Hills, touching base with the “White Plague” or tuberculosis as well as some of the more famous cases from a nurse who hang herself in room 502 to the death tunnel. There are several areas of this hell on earth like place that would surely reveal some of the most impressive if not most complete aspects of paranormal evidence. This is the wonderful part of diving into the paranormal and to hot spots such as the Waverly, not only are you about to find yourself a kid in a playground when it to this area of investigation, but you are also going to make yourself a whole lot smarting in the history department as well. SPOOKED is yet another fine example of this, to the point that it should be shown in school as apart of local history. Hell, if that were to happen I’d move down there myself and enroll my kids (when I have some) in that school!
The DVD much like the documentary itself is bursting with extra information in the form of mini features and mini documentaries on top of the main feature. Sharing everything from the raw footage, behind the scenes, ghost photography, EVP samples and tons more. Showcasing the film makers, trailers for not only the SPOOKED, but for DEATH TUNNEL as well.
Remember this is the unseen version not seen when televised on the Sci-Fi Channel, so in essences you got a whole lot more and then some. If you are truly a fan of the paranormal, or a ghost hunter at heart this is the grand daddy of them all. Yet the stepping stone for the next and upcoming Booth Brothers horror documentary "CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE."
SPOOKED will air again on December 27 9:OOPM/ET on the Sci-Fi Channel in the US, Canada's SPACE channel in March and also available on DVD. For more info http://www.spooked.org

Spooked DVD Horror View Review
Spooked - The Ghosts of the Waverly Hills Sanitorium(2006)
Review by Catwalk / Horror View.
There are plenty of shockumentaries out there today, with the Net being an easy way to get video shown to a large audience quickly. The Booth brothers chose one of the truly memorable places on Earth when they set their sights on Waverly Hills Sanitorium just outside of Louisville , KY.
Waverly Hills was first opened as a hospital to care for victims of the “White Plague”, also known as Tuberculosis. With no available cure, and experimental treatments taking place, the death toll reached an unbelievable pace. The estimated number is over 63,000 who died on the grounds of Waverly.
In an effort to not reveal the quantity of deceased, the bodies of the dead were moved through a 500-foot chute to the train yards below. This means of transport was donned the “death tunnel”. Originally designed as an employee entrance and means of supplies, the tunnel provided a means for trains and hearses to pick up the dead without demoralizing the remaining patients.
The pace of the dead outweighed expectations by such a sever amount that the bodies were stored in makeshift morgues and autopsies had to take place. In addition, not only were there massive numbers of dying, but for many, living with the disease was a painful and saddening existence.
When a cure was found, the hospital was closed. It was briefly re-opened decades later as a sanitorium for a few years before it was closed permanently in 1980. Now the grounds remain closed to the public with a few ghost tours and haunted house events around Halloween.
Stories of the ghosts include a phantom child, a suicidal nurse, the mysterious smells of the cafeteria, orbs of light, sounds and strange temperature changes. The draining room, disregarded by some but sworn as truth by others, was an area where bodes were allegedly hung upside-down and bled out before transport. This is unconfirmed but the presence of a special, separate sewage system is detailed in the documentary.
The strength of Spooked is its interspersed dialogue from the patients, employees and historians. The filmed experiences of the on-site visits by ghost hunters as well as the statements by security personnel are a nice supplement. There are differing perspectives on several of the myths, but more where the commentaries of different decades line up.
The depictions of Shadow people and the experiments performed by the ghost hunters help to maintain the air of fear. Each of the five floors is shown individually, depicting its stories and legends, as well as its history. Photographs, sound recordings and night vision footage are used to back up the claims of hauntings.
The Booth brothers used the location to shoot their straight-to-DVD horror flick, Death Tunnel. That movie retold a number of the legends of Waverly, but without leveraging the weight of truth associated with them. It still makes for an entertaining view without knowing these stories, but seeing Spooked provides a much more intricate familiarity with Waverly.
Spooked made its debut in June on the Sci-Fi channel and is re-aired on occasion.

SPOOKED THE GHOSTS OF WAVERLY HILLS SANATORIUM: Review by Behind the Horror Show.
This is not an ordinary documentary.
When you watch films such as these you usually are left feeling
disappointed. That was not the case with "Spooked". This
was a first in documentary history. For Me.
While I watched this I had a variety of emotions. You get
completely drawn into the history of this hospital. The
historic photographs submitted throughout the film were a
perfect topping to the cake.
You get saddened to see these patients photos and hear hints
of suspicious behavior from the hospital and its staff.
Just hints not statements.
You get an emotional attachment to the gentlemen that were
discussing their knowledge and personal experiences with the
hospital as well. It was heart wrenching to hear that they
passed away after filming while I was watching the credits.
The other aspect of the film such as the haunting was
exciting. To hear the EVP's and see the photos was amazing.
The film follows through on it's word that if you do not believe
in ghosts that you will after seeing this movie.
The photographs shown were clear and the EVP's were played
for you at various speeds to ensure that you hear them clearly.
Now I definitely have to check out, "Death Tunnel" to see
what has been done with that film.
This is a definite must see. This film will entertain you, draw
you in, keep you entertained and leave you wanting to see
more.

Wow....GREAT!!!,
Author: lilwolfangel0 from United States
This was a very good movie I mean it,but it sort of freaked me out because I live in Louisville,it only takes me about 5 minutes to get up there. So I have been in there,I have heard a lot,but whenever I go in there I feel sad,for no reason, and when I get out I feel like crying. This movie was very informing and interesting, that place is a bit creepy but it is very cool!!But if you go to the haunted house they have up there you only go in the mourge,1st,and 2nd floors, because the building is very old and is starting to collapse. But there are times during the year where you can actually take a tour of the whole hospital.I hope someday that I do get to take a tour as well.
Interesting...but don't walk in thinking going to be scared,

I was interested in Waverly Hills Sanitorium after watching "Death Tunnel" and browsing through some of the sites available on the net about the sanatorium itself. This is a very nice documentary that gives you a lot of background on the sanatorium. When built, how the floors were set up for the patients of TB and some of the experiments that were performed trying to rid them of this disease. The documentary entails interviews with past patients, past employees of the sanatorium and history of the place from the owner and security guards. There is also sightings by cast and crew of the movie "Death Tunnel" and other people who have seen or experienced "weird" things while in the sanatorium. I did find some of the photographs very hard to make out anything which detracted my overall enjoyment of this documentary, cause I was left with the feeling of "come on I can't even see anything in that!" But overall I enjoyed it. Is there really something there? I don't know. Watch it and form your own opinion.
Awesome documentary! I want to go to this place now so bad!,

Very cool documentary based on a horror film crew who while looking for a very scary place to film there new horror film, " Death Tunnel" they found Waverly Hills Sanatorium located on the outskirts of Louisville,KY. it was a place of suffering where over 60,000 poor souls died from TB & later was used a convalescing home for the elderly & crippled who were treated so badly they had to close the place down in 1981. So, after sitting for 25 yrs & just recently it has started to be used for a haunted house attraction during Halloween, a film crew came in to film a horror film. They found a lot of paranormal activity. Now it could be just shadows & overactive imaginations but due to the large amount of deaths that happened there there is probably a lot negative energy there. But,the way they told the backstories of the former employees, the patients that had died there, the patients who are still around today, & the current owner & his security staff & their run ins with the weirdness of what they've seen. It's an awesome place for a horror film to be filmed. I just hope they don't tear it down or make the building into something else. I'd love to go there on a tour. Great documentary Booth Brothers. Can't wait to see your film "Death Tunnel". So if you want to get really creeped out, turn out the lights & get ready to hear a story of a tragic time in US history & about a mesmerizing building that still stands like a book just ready to share it's story. **** out of *****
I have to say I enjoyed my evening watching Sci Fi.,
Author: jenny-368 from United States
I thought it was awesome, though the commercials drove me crazy. The old people made me cry and in general the show was entertaining. I understand it was a different approach to Taps, but I liked both shows. I did not side by side put them in competition with each other. All that matters is Taps found paranormal activities and so did Spooked.
Granted that TAPS are Ghost Hunters and they are damn good ones at that, Spooked was filmmakers sharing their story. I do live in Louisville and know a few of the people that was in this doc, and they told it like they told me.
LGHS has a lot of passion as well as the owners and the locals of Waverly, it was a very personal touch.
As far as the death footage, I had never seen that so it made me think now both on TB as well as the NATURE OF WAR. It opened my eyes to help find a cure to TB, War and the ghosts trapped in dimensions.
I have to say I enjoyed my evening watching Sci Fi.

Hello, I was in the documentary. I know that waverly is haunted. For you who don't believe please explain the photo i got of the figure in the window that was in the documentary. i took that during the day time. I also have worked there when it was a nursing home. Everyone can believe what they want to. But the producers who made spooked are great people and is trying to get the truth out there.Juat because you haven't seen or felt anything doesn't mean it isn't there.I have been a paranormal investigator for a long time and have many photo's of thing i have caught on camera and evp's also.I don't think it is fair to come on here and bash those who do believe. There are a lot of unexplained things in this world. So if you don't believe don't bash those who do.

The show was very informative and very detailed accounts of history. Interviews with past employees and patients. Many historical pictures. The pictures of ghost were hard to make out at times and the video of the shadow people goes by way to fast. The music and sound effects tended to drown out anyone who was speaking. When interviewing the elderly you cannot have loud background music. It actually took away from the scary and went toward annoying. I would have to say the computer voice introducing each floor was equally hard to understand. Example the fourth floor scenes show interview with old man in green sweater. I could hardly hear him when the music attempted to go from scary to sincere. I would like to see more shows like this.
The DVD is very creepy,
Author: jenelizangel from United States
I just got the DVD. It is a pleasure to watch without all the Sci Fi commercials. I can not even think of going into Waverly. I would be afraid to bring a ghost home with me, I mean where do all these ghosts hide. The old people that was at the Sanatorium made me cry, it was very sad as they were full of spirit and hoped for a cure. The shadow photos are scary, I can not even look at a shadow again without thinking that someone is standing there. The DVD extras are cool. The Bone Dump is crazy, how can you put that stuff in the woods? It definitely made me a ghost believer. I am gonna take a road trip down to Kentucky and take a tour. It definitely is one of the scariest places I ever seen.

Some podcasts that you download only give you general information. Some podcasts break the rules by releasing secrets that you will only hear from an underground interview thanks to the groundbreaking technology of podcasting itself. Communication on the Internet has been forever changed, and we have one podcast that is a part of that change.
The Louisville Ghost Hunters Society Podcast produced one of the most groundbreaking "secrets revealing" podcasts ever recorded in this media, with special guest Christopher Saint Booth. You can listen to that podcast FREE from this page, and then download the MP3 file for your personal collection.
About Our Special Guest Christopher Saint Booth:
You may have heard of him through his association with various horror movies, including the production of "The Death Tunnel," which was filmed at The Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville Kentucky. You may have seen his work in the Direction of "Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium," which aired recently on the Sci-Fi Channel. Regardless of how you heard about Christopher, his research into The Waverly Hills Sanatorium uncovered some gruesome secrets - which he revealed for the first time on The Louisville Ghost Hunters Society podcast.
About Keith Age (Host) of "Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium":
He is a ghost hunter. He is in a rock band. Some people call him "The Rock & Roll Ghost Hunter," and with good reason. His investigations are never without sophisticated ghost hunting equipment, and his trademark black leather vest, coat, and hat. Keith Age is the Founder of The Louisville Ghost Hunters Society, and also Hosted "Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium." His research and background on the paranormal has taken Keith from your amateur ghost hunter, to one of the Nations most respected paranormal investigators. It is the relationship between Keith Age, Christopher Saint Booth and Waverly that brought forth secrets that would never have been discovered without the documentary "Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium."
Did Somebody Say Secrets?
Some of you may be asking yourself, "what secrets?" After spending years of research on The Waverly Hills Sanatorium, and with the release of "Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium," more secrets were uncovered that even the biggest fan of Waverly Hills Sanatorium was privy to.
It is with great pleasure that we bring you that podcast, preserved and ready for you to listen to directly from this page - so that you too can unlock those secrets about Waverly Hills Sanatorium.

Disease to a Cure, Life to Death, Past to Present. We spent over three weeks inside Waverly, and over 18 hours inside the Death Tunnel. And let me tell you, it was crazy, scary as well as sad and tender. You could feel the pain and the urgency of desperation and pure fear. Non-believers become believers after, Waverly.
We met a lot of cool and beautiful people when we shot in Kentucky, sad to say, some have passed away and may they rest in peace, There is nothing like it in the world, than to walk down the old sanatorium collapsing halls, with the real patients and employees of Waverly and listen to their incredible stories and share a smile, a tear and a smoke. And the all night (cold) LGHS ghost hunts with the jumps and scares, one will never be the same again.
Thanks to Keith Age, Tina and Charlie, Tom, Roy, John, Kim, Cathy, Greg, Corky and Ron as well as all others that helped put this doc together with their kind hearts and genuine knowledge. Extra special thanks to the Lost Souls Of Waverly Hills Sanatorium.
Hauntingly Yours,

Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium
The Kyonsi staff took a break last night and sat down and watched the SPOOKED film on SCI-FI Channel.
The movie was the most impressive ghost research documentary we have seen in some time. I myself found the film to be well researched and it had lots of real people that in the past had dealt with the going on at the creepy now closed Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky (USA). The film had a vast amount of actual accounts as well as haunting images and video from the Sanatorium. Unlike some ghost documentary's SPOOKED was interesting and informative. This DVD is now avail in what looks like a more extensive version than was shown on SCI-FI.
SPOOKED is a highly recommended DVD for ghost fans and horror fans alike.

TV Review Spooked Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium by Regan C. Vacknitz
Paranormal Investigations hosted by Keith Age: LGHS/Louisville Ghost Hunters Society
Tonight I watched the documentary on the Waverly Hill Sanatorium in Kentucky, presented by SciFi Channel. http://www.scifi.com/spooked/ . This documentary was a far cry from the boring sleep inducing documentaries watched in primary and secondary schools. The producers did a wonderful job mixing emotions, from fear and unease to sadness felt for those trapped and dying from their disease.
Waverly Hills was built to house people dying from “The White Plague” back in 1928. Over 63,000 people died in this beautifully constructed sanatorium. Horror stories, whether true or weaved from the mouths of local kids around a bonfire, have been told for over 70 years. Both children and adults a like fled from as far as 500 miles to come to this hospital for a cure. Bizarre experiments were forced upon the dying in the name of finding a cure. Upon death, prior to the cure, the bodies were in mass amounts without proper disposal. They were forced to dig a chute 500 ft down.
Spooked was beautifully produced, with a poetic entwining of old vintage photos and today’s technology used by paranormal investigators. It married the tragic history filled with disease and death to the intrigued felt by paranormal investigators world wide. You see imagery in black and white of families, bed ridden patients, and the hospital. You are pulled into the photographs by the vintage music that plays. You are also shown paranormal investigators doing their job, telling you the stories and tales of the locations they ventured into. You are shown snippets of video, Electromagnetic Field Monitor readings, and photographs from various investigation teams, as well as historical researchers.
The program started out with first hand accounts and interviews by investigators, owners, current and past employees. There were also interviews with previous residence, inpatients, of Waverly. It covered the year the sanatorium was built to current day status. As a viewer you learn the different floors, four total, and their lay outs. First floor was for registration and gift shops. Second and Third floor were for general public patients, not wealthy. Fourth floor were for the well off, however this floor also housed experimental surgeries.
The accounts of hauntings, as well as evidence shown on the program are some of the most convincing phenomenal evidence I have ever seen. From random photographs of ghostly images to Electronic Voice Phenomena, this program could make even a skeptic partially believe. It is educational and informative in both the history of the location and the key lingo used in paranormal investigations.
Most of the documentary is footage and interviews left over from the making of a movie called Death Tunnel: http://www.deathtunnel.com/ . This engrossing documentary is something worth looking into; especially if you want to learn about the specific entities that haunt Waverly Hills Sanatorium. The producers, Booth Brothers, did a wonderful fear enticing documentary. I know I am personally going to look into both purchasing the documentary, as well as the movie Death Tunnel, for my own personal collection

Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium
USA 2005, 93 minutes
Dir. Christopher Saint Booth, Shane Dax Taylor
Rating: [M]
Genres: Documentary / Paranorma
A 'haunting' documentary, made during a horror film shoot, about a Kentucky hospital built in the 1910s to combat the growing numbers of deaths due to tuberculosis ("The White Plague"), which has become a presentday attraction for ghosthunters due to its grisly history and paranormal activities.
The most grotesque feature of the imposing, now derelict facility was the chute or 'death tunnel' down which dead bodies were put for lack of space, which extended half a kilometre and is now saturated with bad vibes of the dead. This film not only details the background, but provides a journal of the filmmakers' experiences, perhaps capturing on film some actual ghosts! You decide...

Taps Ron Milione Review Spooked Waverly Hills
Taps Ron Milione Review June 10, 2006
Haunting
Room 502 is perhaps the most notable location in Waverly Hills and the number has sometimes been adopted symbolically. One story claims that a nurse hanged herself after finding she was pregnant out of wedlock and attempting surgery upon herself to abort the illegitimate child. Another tells a different nurse who jumped from a balcony. However, the SciFi Channel series Ghost Hunters turned up no records or death certificates to confirm the legends, although there is confirmation of the nurse's suicide by hanging and her discovery in official records. Some sources claim there is also confirmation of the second death, but it is currently disputed. Other common sightings in Waverly Hills include the vista of young children running through the halls, as the hospital had a large number of children and families housed there.
Apparitions & Other Strange Events
The most common experience of visitors seems to be "moving shadows" or "shadow people". These are shadows that appear to have some substance - able to "walk" across doorways and, demonstrated in the Sci-Fi Channel special "Spoooked", able to block some light when a laser is pointed at them. There are many reports of these shadows both inside and outside the building.
Glowing Orbs (nicknamed "Soul Orbs" by some) have also been photographed there. These small balls of light appear almost like lightbulbs or specks of dust when captured on film, but there has been no electric power to the building in years. They are often reported to fly around corridors and spawn other orbs.
Some photos show indistinct "brown imps" outside the grounds too, but these humanoid shapes are a less common sighting. The existing photographic evidence of the imps is dubious to say the least.
There have been many Electronic_voice_phenomenon recordings made in the building and grounds. Varying from the more common "Get out" or "Go away" to more specific statements like "What kind of hospital is this?" and "The winch" (referring to the winch that powered the Death Tunnel's body card, and recorded in that area). The makers of the movie Death Tunnel (and the documentary "Spooked") recorded many such voices and sounds while filming.
Ghosts
Often a boy bouncing a ball is seen and at least one small, old, leather ball has been found in the building. Investigators once found a ball rolling towards them, and it being moved by an unseen force. Electronic_voice_phenomenon recordings feature a child saying "I am three". There have been numerous sightings and recordings of small children.
Another notable vision is the sight of a woman - reports vary as to the age and appearance - bearing chains around bloodied wrists chanting or screaming "Help me!" at the entrance of the building. The most common apparition though is of a young girl with no eyes which has appeared on photos and been encountered by witnesses. This girl is called "Mary" by staff and researchers, based on a recovered photo of a young woman that was recovered and was signed "Love, Mary Lee". However, the girl in the photo is older than most reports of the ghosts perceived age. Mary is the most conversational of the ghosts and has spoken to many people, usually wanting to play games with them.
Also of note is the "death tunnel" or "body chute" which was first constructed to move supplies to the building during the cold winters. Because of the increasing number of dailies deaths from the horrible disease, the staff also transported dead bodies in the tunnel to the bottom of the hill on which the sanatorium was built. They believed this would help keep up the morale of the patients by not allowing them to see the hearses picking up the deceased. At the height of epidemic, as many as seven to ten deaths each day. At one point in time, it was reported that as many as three per hour died there, but there is no independent confirmation of that figure.
Estimates vary wildly of how many died at Waverly, though the owners of the building say that it was around 63,000. This estimate would be consistent with other TB hosptitals, considering Waverly's size.
DEATH TUNNEL
The Death Tunnel! This tunnel has to be the most famous tunnel up at Waverly Hills. It has been a major subject of discussion among people who have been to visit Waverly on tours during October. For some reason...this tunnel has come to be called “the body chute." Actually however, this is an incorrect term...because a chute is a slide. Bodies of deceased patients were never slid down this tunnel and piled up at the bottom in heaps - a popular misconception that a lot of people have come to have about this tunnel.
In reality, this tunnel was originally a supply tunnel and was also a good way for employees to get up and down the hill during the winter time and keep warm at the same time. Transporting the bodies of deceased tuberculosis patients was only ONE of the uses of the tunnel. During the peak years of tuberculosis there were alot of deaths at the sanatorium, and the staff realized that it would be very discouraging for patients to look out the windows and see hearses pulling up and taking away people who had died. Try to imagine yourself being administered to the sanatorium with a diagnosis of having TB. It is the late 1920's, and antibiotics have not been invented yet. So, you realize that you have a chance to get cured and live, but...you could die too if the treatments they gave you didn't work well enough. Now, imagine how discouraged you would feel if you looked out from your assigned room, and when you pull the curtains back...you see people who have died being picked up with a hearse. And to make matters worse...you see that perhaps many times throughout a day. It would be so emotionally depressing to you that you might give up the fight to live. Then ....your body’s defenses dwindle. It is a known fact that if a person gets very depressed emotionally....it can affect their body’s defense system to the point that it may not fight off a disease as well as if the person is in good spirits. So, that is the reason why the staff at Waverly would sneak the bodies down through this tunnel!
More to come – Stay Tune!

SPOOKED - NETHERLANDS (FOREIGN VERSION - 68 MIN)

Trailer Death Tunnel (2:38 min.)
