[2011.12.21] TONY LEUNG CHIU WAI CALLS PLAYING BLIND HARD

courtesy of on.cc
courtesy of takungpao.com

The Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung directed, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Zhou Xun, Mavis Fan Hiu Huen and Wang Xuebing starred WIND SEEKER (TING FUNG JEH) yesterday held a wrap press conference in Shanghai.

Leung Chiu Wai in the film played someone with extrasensory power.  Due to a childhood accident he lost his sight but gained exceptional hearing, which came in handy during the intelligence unit 701's tough rescue mission.

Wai Jai said that this film was the most difficult and the most challenging in his career.  With his mesmerizing eyes Leung Chiu Wai in the film played the blind Bing.  Leung Chiu Wai joked that playing "Blind Bing" was quite a challenge but unfortunately when he shot the scene in the poster he had food poisoning.  As soon as he reached the set he began to vomit.  After six times the director asked him, "Can you still work?"  It was quite an abuse.

Although he played blind before in movies like SOUNDS OF COLOR (DEI HA TEET).  Leung Chiu Wai was truly not used to it this time.  He said, "Especially when this film was a collaboration with Zhou Xun.  In an earlier film I had to watch her performance to react, but this time I was blind and my character couldn't see her.  Perhaps I should say, I had to pretend I couldn't see, which was very tough.  I was used to express my emotions with my eyes, but this time I had to think of other ways to express the character's emotions like body language and camera assistance.  I wasn't used to that.  In addition, I had action scenes as soon as the movie started and I was being chased.  During the shot I wasn't sure whether my performance worked.  At the time I just joined the team.  I thought when I walked I didn't walk like someone blind.  At the time I thought my mood was quite confused.  I always thought my body language performance was very weak."

[2011.10.17] ANDY LAU, AARON KWOK, TONY LEUNG KA FAI CREATE COLD WAR

courtesy of singtao.com
courtesy of takungpao.com

Edko's heavily invested police epic COLD WAR (HONG JIN) has already confirmed three Best Actors Andy Lau Tak Wa, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Tony Leung Ka Fai and scheduled for a Hong Kong production start in October and simultaneous release next year in the Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong.  The film company is determined to turn the film into the most luxurious Best Actor "city collapsing" acting battle in the past ten years of Hong Kong police film.

Lau Tak Wa said that INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH) was already a battle of wit suspense classic ten years ago.  Hopefully after COLD WAR's release it will become the new symbol of Hong Kong police battle of wits films of the next ten years.  His participation this time would be a joy for him.  Kwok Fu Sing originally stopped making movies to prepare for his concert but because the COLD WAR script was too attractive he was willing to take time from his rehearsal schedule and sleep less to make it.  After completing the film he will return to the rehearsal.  The script also motivated Leung Ka Fai as he took time from his current film production to participate.  Aside from the three film big shots, new actors Aarif Rahman (Lee Chi Ting) and Eddie Peng Yu-yen will also perform.  They have already worked with several big stars.  As for the film's directors Leung Lok Man and Lok Kim Ching would joint direct for
the first time but have worked behind the scene in the film industry for years.

Edko said that the script was the film's nucleus.  Although this big production's two new directors had no director experience, they have been in the Hong Kong film industry for years.  Investor Bill Kong Chi Keung said, "Hong Kong film is about the spirit of passing the torch.  Ten years ago, (Andrew) Lau Wai Keung and Mak Chong (Alan Mak Siu Fai, Felix Chong Man Keung) were only known in the industry but INFERNAL
AFFAIRS provided them an opportunity.  Now they have already become pillars of the Hong Kong film industry. Conceivably after COLD WAR, which will not only provide viewers with a class A good film but also transmit new blood to the film industry."

[2011.0.10.01] TONY LEUNG CHIU WAI WEARS CONTACT FOR NEW FILM

courtesy of on.cc

Tony Leung Chiu Wai after completing THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) flew to Shanghai for the Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung directed new film WIND SEEKER (TING FUNG JEH)'s costume fitting and preparing for the official shoot in a few days.  Wai Jai this time will play a 50s special agent who due to visual impairment had sharp hearing and other abilities.  He and female lead Zhou Xun will have a complicated relationship.

Wai Jai earlier at the costume fitting studied the eye make up with Mak Siu Fai.  He accepted the suggestion without any hesitation and put on special white contact lenses.  Mak Siu Fai was rather touched.  "He has never worn contact lenses and expected them to be tough.  His electrifying eyes are well known.  What am I going to do if something happens to them.  In the film he also has a surgery scene that returns his sight.  Right now we are still studying how to shoot it.  (Did you buy insurance for him?)  The film company will take care of that."

Mak Siu Fai honestly said that after enjoying the Emperor Motion Picture THE MESSAGE he was very interested in spy films.  Coincidentally this time a film company bought the rights to THE MESSAGE novelist Mai Jia's other book DECRYPT and approached him to collaborate.  Aside from Wai Jai and Zhou Xun, Mainland actor Wang Xuebing who rose due to the television series CHERISH OUR LOVE FOREVER will also join the cast.  The production has been slated to complete before Christmas.

OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2) after six days in release broke 100 million yuan in the Mainland to become the first Chinese commercial film to break the mark this summer. As for its Hong Kong box office, after eight days it already passed 10 million. The film company yesterday held a press conference in Beijing. Producer Derek Yee Tung Sing, directors Alan Mak Siu Fai, Felix Chong Man Keung, stars Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Huang Yi, and Michelle Ye (Yip Shuen) arrived. The most surprising was that Goo Jai who injured his leg earlier also attended in support on crutches.

When the event began, Bon film industry chief Yu Dong pointed out, "This film has already broken the TRIPLE TAP (CHEUNG WONG JI WONG)'s earlier Chinese police film record. Right now it is the Bona film with the highest first week box office and the fastest Chinese commercial film to pass 100 million this summer." He pointed out that this celebration was a "hero meeting", meaning that OVERHEARD 2's record was due to each box office hero's hard work. He was very confident that OVERHEARD 2 box office would head to 300 million yuan.

Producer Yee Tung Sing at the event congratulated Chong Man Keung and Mak Siu Fai. Chong and Mak also took the chance to express thank to the audience. Chong Man Keung pointed out that the success of the film was not only due to the team's effort but also the audience's support. Originally recovering at home, Koo Tin Lok also appeared and stated that originally he wanted to participated in the OVERHEARD 2 premiere and national promotional tour. However his leg has not recovered and he could not, which he regretted. His doctor and manager originally prohibited him from attending this celebration, but now with the film's commercial and critical success, he wanted to meet the audience to share this joy. He also would like to make OVERHEARD 3 with the team.

Lau Ching Wan said that this series of films was sentimental to him because it changed him. He said, "After making WRITTEN BY (JOI SUN HO) for awhile I didn't want to make another film. OVERHEARD changed my mind." He also hoped that this series would continue. Originally Ng Yin Cho could not confirm whether he would attend but he still took time to so the Three Musketeers finally reunited.

Speaking of OVERHEARD 2's copyright violation, Yu Dong pointed out that Chinese film relied on the audience to have a healthy development. As long as the movie was good they should support it. Otherwise the industry would never positively develop.

Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) in the film OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2) had a topless body bag scene that was very memorable for him. During the shoot he displayed his muscles, which the team appreciated from every and all directions and joked that he looked cooler than others even as a corpse. Ng Yin Cho helplessly said, "I never imagined that I would be helplessly on display."

Playing dead in a body bag, Ng Yin Cho had no taboo. "This film had many action scenes, on the edge of the cliff, car crashes, hanging upside down, I have to remain alert. This was a rare scene in which I could lie down and rest. It was the most comfortable scene!" Ng Yin Cho could not escape his fate in the previous film. Director Felix Chong Man Keung joked that he was like Kenny in SOUTH PARK. Every time he was destined to die for the ending to be more perfect. Ng Yin Cho joked, "I really have to thank director for me to die a worthy death."

[2011.08.10] BED SCENE IS LAU CHING WAN'S WEAK SPOT

courtesy of on.cc

courtesy of takungpao.com

Derek Yee Tung Sing Chi, Felix Chong Man Keung and Alan Mak Siu Fai again united for OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2). Three leads Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo Tin Lok and Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) this time respectively played a financial wizard, Security Bureau inspector and eavesdropping expert; because they already had chemistry, this time they set off even more spark. Publicly recognized as a good actor, Lau Ching Wan ran into a huge challenge this time. The "bed scene" made Ching Wan cried for help and the directors joked that he had a weak spot. Playing Fong Chin Bok on the television series MAN OF GREED (DAI SI DOI), Lau Ching Wan this time in the film "returned" to the financial world. His well dressed look was fresh to the eyes.

During the shoot, the directors deliberately arranged for his bed scene with female Mainland star Huang Yi to be shot on Lau Ching Wan's birthday as a "gift" for the Best Actor. It turned into an enormous challenge unexpectedly, as the topless Ching Wan was ill at ease and often cried for help. He said that after 20 years in the business, his biggest taboo was bed scene. This time was the most difficult challenge to himself. He pointed out that Huang Yi was a great actress. Before hand they communicated clearly so during intimacy they were comfortable and natural. He joked that next time he would leave such "gifts" to the young people.

Director Mak Siu Fai said that Ching Wan had every performance at the palm of his hand except for the bed scene when he turned hesitant but still gave his full effort. He never thought that actually even Best Actor had a weak spot. The scene was completely smoothly with the support of the Victoria Harbor night view. Ng Yin Cho and the team afterward brought a birthday cake to celebrate both Ching Wan's birthday and successfully conquering the bed scene.

[2011.07.26] LOUIS KOO IS KING OF SUMMER BOX OFFICE

courtesy of singtao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2) yesterday held a Beijing press conference. Directors Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung led stars Louis Koo Tin Lok and Michelle Ye (Yip Shuen) in attendance. At the press conference, Koo Tin Lok was presented with the "King of Summer Box Office" title to honor his appearance in the Mainland summer slot for the third year in a row and making over 100 million over two years at the box office. Goo Jai even had the nickname "Summer Vacation Koo".

Koo Tin Lok was rather excited when he received his title. He joked that he could finally be "crowned". Later he said that the real "kings" should be the entire OVERHEARD 2 cast and crew. Yip Shuen and Goo Jai in the film played a couple. Yip Shuen praised this husband as
very "handsome" and a great actor. He truly deserved that title of box office king. She hoped to one day benefit from him and become "the queen of the box office".

As for which of the three lead actors' performances were the most satisfactory, the directors said, "(Danie Wu) Ng Yin Cho, Koo Tin Lok and Lau Ching Wan actually have very different acting styles. OVERHEARD 2 gave them the most room to perform so their acting bug could have its fill. I like the three of them very much, they all are veteran actors with plenty of experience. During the shoot communication was particularly smooth, so the collaboration was great."

Goo Jai has been making one movie after another in recent years, but he said that later he would be interesting in working behind the scenes and next year he will have a new direction. Would Goo Jai want to direct or produce a film? He joked, "Props!"

The film OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2) yesterday held a press conference at the Shanghai Film Festival. Two directors Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung, Huang Yi, Lau Ching Wan along with the film's "Land Owner Club" trio of tycoons Kenneth Tsang Kong, Wu Fung and Lok Ying Kwan attended. Speaking of the difference between the sequel and the original, Mak Siu Fai pointed out that this film had no certain connection to OVERHEARD. Only the title and the surveillance elements remained. This time aside from Louis Koo Tin Lok, Lau Ching Wan and Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), the cast also included four veterans Tsang Kong, Kong Ngai, Wu Fung and Lok Ying Kwan. They along with Lau Ching Wan created the "Land Owner Club" of the stock market.

Chong Man Keung pointed out that the "Land Owner Club" was like the stock market's "Heaven Earth Club". In the "Land Owner Club" both Tsang Kong and Lok Ying Kwan have played Wong Yeuk Si in THE LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES (SEH DIU YING HUNG JUEN), Kong Ngai played the leader of the Jiangnan Seven Strange Or Chun Ngok, they appeared in various 80s and 90s version of THE LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES and THE RETURN OF THE
CONDOR HEROES (SUN DIU HUP NUI), Tsang Kong and Kong Ngai worked with Lau Ching Wan on the classic Hong Kong series GREED OF MAN (DAI SI DOI). Wu Fung 16 years ago worked with Lau Ching Wan on the film SEA ROOT (HOI GUNG). When asked how Lau Ching Wan turned enemies into an organization this time, Tsang Kong said that it proved Ching Wan matured a lot. When he was in GREED OF MAN, he did not heed the words of the elders and thus suffered a lot. This time in the film under their protection, Ching Wan got rich. Four tycoons of "Land Owner Club" gathered on the Bund. Kong Ngai due to a family matter could not attend and left the three. Ching Wan this time worked with GREED OF MAN enemies Tsang Kong and Kong Ngai and said that this time together did not mean that they were not at odds. "Land Owner Club" has both good and bad people, the story between them would not be so simple.

Alan Mak Siu Fai, Felix Chong Man Keung, Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Michael Tong Man Lung, Chrissie Chau Sau Na's junior colleague Jeana Ho Pui Yu and A.Lin two nights ago attended the film THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG) celebration. Its first week Mainland box office already passed 130 million RMB, which made the film a May Day champion. Chi Tan said that the audience was just being respectful, he only thought that the performance was just passable. Would they make a sequel? The directors Mak Siu Fai and Chong Man Keung have not made up their minds. Speaking of THE LOST BLADESMAN being no match for 3D SEX AND ZEN: EXTREME ECSTASY (3D YUK PO TUEN ji GIK LOK BO GAM) at the box office, Mak Siu Fai predicted the loss long ago. Chi Tan also joked that if the directors asked him to strip the box office might have been better.

Chi Tan also said that he wanted to have time off. Later he will visit Cannes with his wife Cissy Wang for both business and pleasure. He said that recently he rather enjoyed being with his children, earlier he even had a dinner date with his daughter. However he thought raising his daughter was tougher than acting and said that he finally understood his wife's pain. Yesterday was Mother's Day, Chi Tan said that he already bought gifts for Mommy, mother in law and wife but he was unable to reveal what they were.

Jeane earlier was suspended because she said elder Chau Sau Na was past her prime. She said that the suspension has been lifted and she would be more careful with her words. A.Lin believed that Chau Sau Na would not be mad because her emotional quotient was very high. She revealed that after finishing HEI OI YEH PO she will study acting in Beijing later.

[2011.04.29] DONNIE YEN DRIVES FAST TO REDUCE THE LOST BLADESMAN STRESS

courtesy of takungpao.com

Donnie Yen Chi Tan in THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG) played Guan Yu, which recently has become one of the focus character of online attention. A slogan even spread online, "With Love With Honor Watch Lord Guan, Without Love Without Honor 'Thunder' Struck". Chi Tan thought it was good and said that the slogan had momentum. In the past many actors have played Lord Guan, each with his own uniqueness. He also wanted everyone to see how he interpreted a different Lord Guan under the cameras of directors Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung.

Chi Tan pointed out, Guan Yunchang was one of the most difficult characters that he has ever played. With Sun Wukong he got his inspiration from his son, but with Guan Yunchang he had nowhere to start. With the difficulty, he had to work extra hard to study this character. However the biggest challenge was Chi Tan felt a lot of pressure with his limited Putonghua in front of the fluent in Putonghua Jiang Wen.

Chi Tan said that working with Jiang Wen was a pleasure, but he did not understand Cantonese and his own Putonghua was lacking. Thus when they rehearsed with Putonghua they had certain difficulties. He had to concentrate even more. During the shoot, Chi Tan spent his free time on the vehicle that the team provided for him and drove around the hills to reduce stress. The crew joked that they were enlighten to the fact that Lord Guan actually loved to drive fast too.

In addition, the famous North American distributor Weintstein earlier already bought the right to THE LOST BLADESMAN, which will be released in North America. Actually Weinstein's boss was a top Chi Tan fan. Chi Tan was excited about the North American purchase and hoped to perform in the North American market with this film.

[2011.04.11] JIANG WEN LOVES LISTENING TO SOMETHING BAD ABOUT HIM

courtesy of takungpao.com

Jiang Wen worked with two Hong Kong directors Alan Mak Siu Fai, Felix Chong Man Keung for the firs time on their new film THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG). They already got along famously on their first collaboration. Earlier Jiang Wen came to Hong Kong for two days to attend the film festival events. He suddenly appeared in front of them and surprised them during an interview. Mak Siu Fai said with pleasant surprise, because they were saying something bad about Jiang Wen.

Mak Siu Fai's "something bad" was, "At first when we suggested Jiang Wen for the role of Cao Cao, many Beijing producers heard the name Jiang Wen and reacted. They told us that Jiang Wen was very troublesome, he treated directors very poorly and yelled at countless people. He even hit a director once. A director who worked with him dead halfway. Wow! How terrifying is he. However Chong Man Keung and I wanted to give it a try. Since there were two of us, even if one died we would still have another. We probably wouldn't both die, it's not that terrifying right?" As Mak Siu Fai said "something bad" about Jiang Wen, Big Brother Jiang Wen appeared. The funniest part was Jiang Wen quietly sat next to them like he was listening to someone else's story and smiled from the heart as he listened.

Mak Siu Fai even humorously said, "While working with Jiang Wen, Chong Man Keung and I lived well. Neither one of us died! However Big Brother Jiang had many 'demands' for us. He told us that he was old and everyday he could only work eight hours on the set. During rehearsal the set had to remain silent. In the film every details had to be explained clearly to him so he could understand. However those 'demands' also proved that he was a professional actor. If the rumor is that anyone who works with Jiang Wen dies, then the two of us died being touched with his professionalism."

[2011.04.06] THE LOST BLADESMAN SATIRIZES THE PRESENT WITH THE PAST

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

The epic film THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG) that will be released on April 28 in the Mainland had one major scene in which Cao Cao tearfully buried Guan Yunchang. It appeared in the beginning and the end of the film, so obviously it was important to the directors. One of the directors Felix Chong Man Keung said that Cao Cao regretted that he was unable to convince "enemy" Guan Yunchang to join him. Cao Cao said about Guan Yunchang, "He originally was a wolf, but was born with the heart of a sheep." Thus he and the other director Alan Mak Siu Fai wanted to display how Cao Cao felt about Guan Yunchang through this major scene.

According to history, Guan Yunchang was carelessly defeated in Jing Province and finally captured. He was executed with his son Guan Xing. Sun Quan sent Guan Yu's head to Cao Cao to gain favor. Cao Cao held a national burial for him. On one hand one hero appreciated another, on the other Cao Cao wanted to incite Liu Bei's hatred for Sun Quan and start a new round of battles. Playing Cao Cao in the film, Jiang Wen ordered carpenters to make a fragrant wooden body for Guan Yunchang to match with the head that Sun Quan presented. Then he led everyone in mourning and buried Guan Yu with a national burial ceremony. Cao Cao even personally paid his respect to Guan Yunchang. Through this national burial scene Cao Cao's sly scheme was thoroughly on display. Mak and Chong said, "Actually it is like good rivals and enemies in our society today, one day they may become good partners. In politics and in business no one is an enemy forever."

The director handled another famous scene of crossing five passes and slaying six generals appropriately, even Jiang Wen after watching it praised the directors' abilities as it was a very suitably shocking scene. Chong Man Keung said, "In the process of crossing five passes and slaying six generals, Guan Yunchang thought about which was more important between Liu Bei and the nation. Mak Siu Fai and I also hope to use a modern angle to treat this historical costume drama, to satirize the present with the past and to warn the people today. This is also the film's point that is the most representative of the times."

[2011.03.30] DONNIE YEN BRINGS LORD GUAN TO LIFE

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Donnie Yen Chi Tan described THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG) as the most challenging character in his career. Whether in look or feel, he was drastically different from this well known historical figure. Finally the film company's sincerity moved him. He could only like Lord Guan cross five passes and slay six generals, including looking for information online and from comic books and eating to gain weight. The funniest though was during his research, Chi Tan thought that comic book's fictional ideas were real. He read the wrong book for the wrong information, making him the laughing stock of directors Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung.

Chi Tan said, "During that period I looked for information online everyday and familiarized myself with RECORDS OF THREE KINGDOMS like I was cramming for a big exam. I studied harder than my daughters at school. However I tried to see comic books about Lord Guan and thought the story was real. Later I realized that the story was purely fictional, finally Mak Chong made fun of me." In addition, Chi Tan also had to "inflate" his body in a short time to create a well built impression. Finally he had five meals a day to gain weight and got into even better shape.

Chi Tan at first had zero confidence to play Guan Yunchang. Finally "Mak Chong" said something that revived all of his confidence. Chong Man Keung was pleased with himself. "I remember one day I told the story of THE LOST BLADESMAN to Chi Tan, he suddenly said with a little frustration that he had no confidence in getting into this character. So I comforted him, 'You actually are Lord Guan. Now you are the best fighter in the entire universe, but everyone say that you don't know how to act. Now I am giving you someone who is the best fighter and full of ambitions, you want to change this world but everyone are against you. Now I am having you a chance, are you willing to take it?' After that, he completely understood." However that day Chong Man Keung mercilessly made fun of Chi Tan, yelling at him that since getting into the business he never learned to read scripts. However, "Mak Chong" even praised Chi Tan for bringing the Guan Yunchang before Lord Guan to life.

[2011.03.23] DONNIE YEN PLAYS INFERNAL AFFAIRS GUAN YUNCHANG

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Donnie Yen Chi Tan, directors Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung yesterday promoted their new film THE LOST BLADESMAN at the Lord Guan Temple. Chi Tan said that at first when he took the role, because he knew little about the THREE KINGDOMS story he worried. However he knew that the directors have never made a costume film and would make it in the format of INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH) he became interested in doing his homework fully. Mak Siu Fai and Chong Man Keung said that viewers would not watch a historical film. They would make a costume INFERNAL AFFAIRS like a police film, but they would not mess around and twist around the historical story.

Chi Tan although constantly played a classic figure, but he did not feel that he played too many. He thought that this was a process as an actor. If he did not break through and grow up soon viewers would abandon him. He said, "Thus I can't just keep playing Ip Man, I have to play other characters to elevate acting and improve for the viewers to see."

[2011.03.15] DONNIE YEN MAKES GUAN YU MORE HUMAN

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung directed, Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Jiang Wen, Betty Sun Li starred THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG) keeps on unveiling character stills. Earlier Yen Chi Tan in the "fighting wealth god" poster met everyone's impression of Guan Yu's "fighting saint" image with helmet, armor, and blade as well as a beard that reached his chest and the standard Lord Guan "red face". However Guan Yu without his armor and blade also had an ordinary "casual" look that showed the other side of Lord Guan.

Director Chong Man Keung said that in comparison to past film and television work in which Lord Guan has become a deity, THE LOST BLADESMAN put its effort into returning him to someone who was "more flesh and blood". He pointed out that in the minds of many, when Guan Yu slept he would still be in an armor with his blade and his face would be exaggeratedly red. This time in THE LOST BLADESMAN Guan Yu's costumes on many occasions were not elegant. His hair and beard were very different from what everyone thought, so they would focus on returning a more realistic Guan Yu in the chaos of war.

THE LOST BLADESMAN's biggest selling point is Guan Yu's heroic story of "crossing five passes and slaying six generals". Mak Siu Fai revealed that Yen Chi Tan's version of Guan Yu not only killed all over the battlefield but also had "heroic duo face off" dramatic scenes with Jiang Wen that were just as exciting. For example Cao Cao treated Guan Yu so well, why would he still leave Cao's camp to escort the Lady back to Liu Bei. Content like this would be on display in THE LOST BLADESMAN. Mak Su Fai said that Yen Chi Tan's character in THE LOST BLADESMAN was not only a Guan Yu who could fight but also a Guan Yu who was very human. In the film Guan Yu was a person, neither Lord Guan nor a deity. He hoped that Yen Chi Tan not just played Guan Yu's prestige or how well he fought.

[2011.03.03] CHEN HONG INTERGRATES INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY AS LIU BEI'S WIFE

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung directed, Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Jiang Wen, Betty Sun Li starred THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG) earlier released an all new set of stills. Chen Hong as Lady Gan, Liu Bei's wife has been unveiled for the first time. After playing Diaochan eight years ago she again played a Three Kingdoms character. The directors said that the role of Lady Gan was tailored for Chen Hong. "Back then Diaochan was only beautiful, in recent years she had more behind the scene work experience. She could be said as learning both inside and outside."

In recent years Chen Hong helped her husband Chen Kaige as the center of her work gradually moved from on to off screen. This time at the invitation of THE LOST BLADESMAN producer Liang Ting she returned to the screen and guest starred as Liu Bei's wife Lady Gan. To Chen Hong, this was a return to Three Kingdoms. Eight years ago she in Chen Kaige's first television series played Diaochan. Director Chong Man Keung still remembered Chen Hong's character as if it was yesterday. "That Diaochan role left me with a very deep impression. I thought her costume look was exceedingly beautiful. Working behind the scene in recent years, she added a little capability to her aura. Thus this script had a few scenes for Lady Gan. Although the role was not major, it was completely tailored for her."

The directors were after a simple and real visual style in the entire film, but Chen Hong's costume was "simple yet elegant". Mak Siu Fai said, "Chen Hong's character in the film could be described as integrated internally and externally. She did not have many lines but her every move was dramatic. Conceivably viewers after watching will definitely feel Chen Hong's look would rival her Diaochan look then."

Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Michelle Ye (Yip Shuen), Huang Yi, Wilfred Lau Ho Lung two nights ago attended the OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2)'s Causeway Bay press conference. The new film had nothing to do with the previous film. Ng Yin Cho will battle Goo Jai and Ching Wan, Goo Jai will sell out his wife Yip Shuen while Huang Yi and Ching Wan will play a couple. The relationships will be rather complicated. Producer Felix Chong Man Keung joked, "This time is somewhat unusual. Mainly we want to compete with 3D SEX AND ZEN so we will have bed scenes." Actually he was referring to Ching Wan and Huang Yi. Was Ching Wan challenging his screen limit? Ching Wan said, "Neither directors know how to make that type of movie so don't worry, but it should be entertaining!"

Goo Jai appeared scruffy looking with a head of white hair. In the film he played an anti terrorism department head, but because of his leg injury Goo Jai revealed that he could not handle even a simple running scene. However he would insist against using a double. Would this scene be postponed? Goo Jai said, "This isn't the only reason. The scene also requires a chase throughout the busy city streets and explosives, so it is more complex. The shoot has to control the scene proper. However lately I haven't rested much and I haven't done physical therapy. Earlier in a car chase I almost crashed, luckily I was fine." After this film will he make less action films? Goo Jai said that the next film will already require battle scene and horse riding. Luckily it will not shoot until the summer and he will be able to rest during the break.

Speaking of Isabella Leong Lok Si's break up announcement, Goo Jai looked shocked and said that he had no idea because he was working on the film. Since she issued a statement and they were outsiders, they should comment less as it was a private matter between two people. Did he feel the children was more innocent? Goo Jai believed that they have discussed that, otherwise the court would decide. Recent rumors claimed that Goo Jai's relationship with Richard Lee Jat Kai was ambiguous and Leong Lok Si was only a surrogate mother. Goo Jai smiled and said, "It's not true, I don't need to respond!"

Yip Shuen revealed that in the film Goo Jai will sell her out and put her in prison, but after her release they made up. She honestly said that she had previous experience with a boyfriend but did not talk about it in detail. Was she someone who would make an U turn? Yip Shuen said, "Depending on the situation like how much I love him, actually before the shoot we were only at a script reading I lost control and broke down. Goo Jai cried too." Speaking of Chan Kwok Keung who she has been linked romantically to will soon take over TVB, has anyone contacted her to return home? Yip Shuen said that it was a business secret; would she resist making series? She said, "It doesn't matter, depending on the script. (If Mr. Chan personally invites you?) Don't talk about anything that is unrelated."

[2011.02.24] LAU CHING WAN TURNS INTO MULTIMILLIONAIRE

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Derek Yee Sing Tung produced, Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung directed police film OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2) finally unveiled its first stills. Playing a down and out cop in the previous film, Lau Ching Wan in this film became a suit and tie, upper
class multimillionaire gentleman. The difference was quite a surprise. Yee Tung Sing even said that this film will completely escalate. Ching Wan's character change was just the tip of the iceberg as even more pleasant surprise was on the way.

In the past Ching Wan looked like a slob in most films, but this time he turned into a financial genius with sea view mansions and worth hundreds of millions. Not only did he appear in a suit, but he was an elite among the upper class and the focus of attention in the social scene. Ching Wan joked about the character change. "This time not only the boss has money, even we (in the film) have money. However this was only in comparison to the first film. Although he was worth hundred of millions, but if compared to Mark Zuckerberg from THE SOCIAL NETWORK he still had quite a way to go!" Although this film's characters did not have to worry about money, they still have endless troubles and rumors. At the same time the film maintained the previous' suspenseful and intense style, and realistically revealed the Hong Kong upper class society's
extravagance and the crimes hidden within. In comparison to the previous work it had even more caliber and greater scope.

[2011.02.16] THE LOST BLADESMAN RELEASES ITS FIRST TRAILER

Jiang Wen

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Alan Mak Siu Fai, Felix Chong Man Keung directed epic film THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN YUNCHANG) will open April 28 simultaneously in both Hong Kong and the Mainland. Earlier the film released its first trailer. The always hand to hand fighter Donnie Yen Chi Tan was elevated in the film and brought life to the Guan blade; playing Cao Cao Jiang Wen continued to "seep dominance" as he and Chi Tan performed a duel that sent sparks flying.

Chi Tan in the film personally served as the action director. The first action scene was the horseback battle in which Guan Yu killed Yan Liang. According to Mak Siu Fai, Chi Tan placed a Guan blade in his room and kept it with him day and night to find inspiration. The entire film had four to five major action scenes. On horseback, in water, in alley, indoors, every scene's performance was completely different and had quite then "blade in hand, walk with me" if I cannot do it who can aura.

In comparison to Chi Tan who completely relied on the action to do the talking, Jiang Wen in the trailer had a series of narratives. However his several appearances remained "full of dominance", in particular the line "The hero, you can be; the petty, let me!" filled the screen with tension.
