Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!
Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday April 24, 2009! It feels like a quiet week when we only have 5 releases, and most have a sad or trying undertone - which feels like the tone of the moment. I swear something must be in retrograde because holy smokes everyone seems to be a bit down. Hopefully one of these films can cheer you up!
In limited release this week we have two films, both with a focus on relationships. The Canadian film Only shows use the subtle strength of friendship and Three Monkeys / Üç maymun the 2008 Cannes winner for Best Director (Nuri Bilge Ceylan) shows the strain of relationships in trying times.
In wide release this week we certainly have people facing some struggles. In Fighting, Channing Tatum is a streetwise fighter who gets a glimpse at something more. We also have Obsessed starring Ali Larter who is... wait for it... obsessed with her boss, Idris Elba. Last up we finally have the release of The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx as a near forgotten Cellist until he finds a friend played by Robert Downey Jr.
Along with regular releases, we also are full on in festival season. I'll be attending Hot Docs which opens next Thursday so be sure to check out daily coverage here at Movie Moxie from April 30 - May 10, 2009.
