DVD Releases for April 6, 2010

Let's have a look at today's DVD releases for this Tuesday April 6, 2010.

I'm thrilled that the heist action flick Black comes out on today from Evokative. Starring the charismatic MC Jean Gab'1, it's a fun spin on the a heist genre that takes us from Paris to Senegal and includes everything from car chases to diamonds to snakes. Extras on the DVD of Black include a French Making-of, a Documentary about MC Jean Gab'1 coming to Montreal, a Capsule about the Canadian Premiere at Fantasia and the Trailer along with a booklet with an exclusive Director’s note and a foreword by Tim League, founder of the Alamo Theatres and co-founder of the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. I had a chance to see Black at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival in 2009 where director Pierre Laffargue and producer Lauranne Bourrachat were in attendance. See selections from the Q&A from that screening here. Black is is available for purchase over at Evokative Films website.

Looking to get psyched, or psyched out later this month with the upcoming redux of A Nightmare on Elm Street? Now you can get them all in one handy dandy package with the Nightmare on Elm Street Collection. The collection includes films 1-6 and New Nightmare. I hate to admit that I'm not even sure how many of the films I've seen... it might only be the first three. May have to rectify this soon.

Several documentaries in release this week including Art & Copy which looks at advertising and marketing campaigns and Oscar nominated Food, Inc.

Also out today highly acclaimed-yet very bizarre looking Taxidermia and the Nicolas Cage starring Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans from director Werner Herzog.

TV titles with DVD releases this week include should make some completists happy with a new release of Battlestar Gallactica: The Complete Series along with Blood Ties: The Complete Series hitting the shelves.

Blu-Ray
A huge day has come with one of the most loved trilogies ever coming to Blu-Ray with The Lord of the Rings: Motion Picture Trilogy. With the LoTR trilogy we see huge spike in the number of blu-ray releases today, one choice film is the 80's sci-fi goodness of Dreamscape. We also have a slew of blu-rays coming out in the very reasonable price of $9.49 (CAD) including Rogue, Chasing Amy, Cursed and The Others among the titles although those prices are only applicable here in .ca land in a odd change of pace where many of the titles this week are less expensive here in Canada.

Also in release are The Hangover and Observe & Report.
