Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!
Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday August 8, 2008! We have quite the bizarre film release schedule this week with the Friday being almost exclusively limited releases as well as being mid week bookended by Wednesday releases. Apparently the cause is hedging away from the competition of opening of the 2008 Olympics on August 8th.
In limited release this week we have a brilliant selection of festival favourite films. Let's start of with Man on Wire, shall we? The focus of the film is a astounding goal of Philippe Petit to wire walk between the two buildings of the World Trade centre. Viewing the film is a truly powerful experience, one which I highly recommend. Take my word for it that this is one of the years best films and it is not to be missed. More festival favourites include the multiple award winning Canadian film Amal which has been charming audiences since TIFF last year. We also have Camera D'or Cannes winner Jellyfish about the lives of three different women in Israel, rounding out the limited releases is the low budget/meta/mumblecore festival fave Baghead.
Very few wide releases this week, they include the Bollywood film Singh is Kinng being released this Friday, then next Wednesday we have the new Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder.
Have a great weekend!
Shannon
