The US$12 million, Beijing Galloping Horse Film and TV Production and Hong Kong Media Asia join release, the large scale martial art suspense film JIANYU JIANGHU yesterday held a production start press conference in Shanghai. The film's producer and chief director John Woo
(Ng Yu Sum) and key actors Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King), Jung Woo-Sung, Barbie Hsu (Tsui Hei Woon), Paw Hee Ching, Wang Xueqi and Shawn Yue Man Lok attended. Other actors Chang Chen, Kelly Lin (Lam Hei Lui), Guo Xiaodong, Jiang Yiyan, Pace Wu (Ng Pui Chi), Leon Dai Lap Yun and Ethan Yuan (Yuen King Tin) were absent yesterday. Other attending guests included the aforementioned companies' representatives Li Ming, Peter Lam Kin Ngok, John Chong Ching and Terence Chang Ka Chun.
This performance had many big name actors, some of whom were willing to play support roles. Aside from Ng Yu Sum's draw, they did so because the story was particularly good. The story takes place in a fictional dynasty and around a legendary saintly monk's remains that enables someone to learn the greatest martial art. Yet the film did not take the traditional kung fu film route but is a "physical + brain power" "kung fu + suspense" film. Currently completing a film in the Mainland, Jung Woo-Sung will again star in a Chinese film but this time his character will be more challenging. According to Chang Ka Chun, JIAN will not only shoot in Shanghai but also in Hengdian and Taipei. It will be released next summer.
