DVD Releases: November 10, 2009

Let's take a look at this weeks DVD releases!

Excitement List:
From now until Christmas, it looks like we have one really big release every week and this week it is the charming and tearjeaking animated film Up. What a treat this film was, it works on so many levels and I'm sure reaches all age groups on different levels. Pixar really knows their stuff. Another fantastic film in release is the hilarious UK political satire film In the Loop. I'm thrilled to see that Ink is in release this week, a SciFi/Fantasy film that deals with lands of dreams & nightmares which John over at Row Three has a glowing review that's secured it sweetly on my to see list. Also up this week is the award winning Ballast which shook the indie circuits of 2008. We also have 2 documentaries: Objectified, from Helvetica director Gary Hustwit who takes us through the world of industrial design and Enlighten Up! which follows the journey of skeptic on transformative power of yoga.

Wildcards
Interesting selection for wildcards this week, films that surface on DVD but never have heard of before. First up is the historical drama The Divine Weapon from South Korea. The last three wildcards are for the TwiFans/Hards: Summer's Moon (or Summer's Blood depending on where you look) a horror film starring Ashley Greene and Stephen McHattie (Pontypool), Hurt starring Melora Walters, William Mapother and Jackson Rathbone and finally Robsessed a documentary based on how teenager have become obsessed with none other than Robert Pattinson (Twilight).

Not a Movie But...
For the completists out there we have 2 complete series now available on DVD. Although it seems unlikely, I think there are crossover fans on the TV shows "Dawson's Creek" and "Justice League".

Blu-Ray / Blast From the Past
Two titles out on Blu-Ray that are absolute beauties, eh. First up is Kathryn Bigelow dark take on vampire genre, Near Dark starring Adrian Pasdur. We also have the classic 1976 Logan's Run, where life ends when you turn 30. Man, that one still scares me. Renew! Renew!

You've Heard About 'em
Bigger titles this week include romantic comedy The Ugly Truth starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler along with Spread starring Ashton Kutcher and Anne Heche.
