This week the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival lights up Toronto with cinematic delights from China, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Malayasia, The Philippines, DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea/North Korea) to USA & Canada.

The festival kicks into gear this Wednesday November 11, 2009 with the Opening Night Gala presentation of Overheard, a crime/thriller from Hong Kong from writer/director duo Alan Mak and Felix Chong (Moonlight in Tokyo).

One of the highlights of this years festival is sure to be the Centrepiece Presentation of Red Heroine, a 1929 silent film to be presented with live music score by the Boston band Devil Music Ensemble. Add to that, Red Heroine is a martial arts film. This is one screening not to be missed!

Also to enjoy are the shorts programs like Sense of Wonder which showcases Asian Canadian shorts (including Yung Chang's lovely Ali Shan), and Youth Presentations My Name Is.... & Blinded by Goodness.

We also have When the Full Moon Rises, a Malaysian film that has not only gangsters, but musical numbers as well. Or how about zany comedy / doomsday Japanese film Fish Story from director Yoshihiro Nakamura starring Ito Atsushi, Kora Kengo, Tabe Mikako and Moriyana Mirai? The festival will go out in style closing off with the multiple award winning South Korean film Breathless from director Yang Ik-June.
