Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!
Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday June 25, 2010, or for those of us who are here in Toronto it's the big G-20 weekend. I'm wondering how many are going to be trekking out to the theatres this weekend with all that security out there. But, it's already been a crazy week with an earthquake (my first!) and finally starting to get the summer heat.
In limited release this week is the place to be. Lots of choice and all the films already have people cheering their names. First up is the Canadian film This Movie Is Broken from director Bruce McDonald (Pontypool, Hard Code Logo) and starring Broken Social Scene. Next up is the historical biopic Coco & Igor, based on the romance between French fashion designer Coco Chanel (played by Anna Mouglalis) and Russian composer Igor Stravinsky (played by Mads Mikkelsen). Oddly, it's been renamed Coco & Igor over it's previous name Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky and also shouldn't be confused with last years releases of Coco Before Chanel with Audrey Tautou. Next up is Cyrus, a film from the Duplass Brothers (Baghead), and stars John C. Reilly whom falls for Marisa Tomei who lives with her oddly still very attached adult son Jonah Hill. The trailer didn't do much for me, but I've heard nothing but high praise for it.
In wide release this week we only have one release, Adam Sandlers latest comedy Grown Ups which appears to be... well...about grown ups having fun.
Bookending the regular Friday releases we have Wednesday releases in both time directions. Already released is the Cameron Diaz & Tom Cruise action/comedy Knight and Day, and then next Wednesday we have a limited release of Love Ranch, plus the Bollywood release of I Have Luv Storys. For me, next week is all about Twilight though with the release of the third film in the saga with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse being released on Wednesday June 30, 2010. There are some late night Tuesday shows kicking around if you are aching to see it as soon as humanly, or vampirically, or lycanthropically, possible.
Have a great weekend!
Shannon
