Eric Tsang Chi Wai yesterday held a memorial for his late father Tsang Kai Wing, "In Loving Memory of Mr. Tsang Kai Wing" to share his father's life. Chi Wai originally intended for the event not to have tears, only warmth and laughter. Yet when he, cousin Frederick Ma Si Hung and daughter Tsang Bo Yi talked about his father's life, they could not help but break down. Later during the media interview he was still somewhat teary eyed.
The senior Mr. Tsang's memorial took place from noon to 2PM yesterday. Aside from Chi Wai's entire family, senior Mr. Tsang's friends and co-workers, friends of Chi Wai and Ma Si Hung attended. Attendees included Alan Tam Wing Lun, Peng Kin Sun, Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, Peter Chan Ho Sun, Yuen Siu Cheung, Prudence Liew Mei Kwan, Chik Mei Chun, Yuen Wah, Maggie Cheung Ho Yi and Amigo Choi Kin bong. Before the memorial ended, Chi Wai, his children Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung and Tsang Bo Yi, Ma Si Hung and Alan appeared together to meet the media. Chi Wai said that the memorial was simpler than simple. They did not want to decorate too much because they would like to save on spending to donate to a charity in his father's name along with contributions from friends and family. At the same time they did not want to have too much sadness. He spoke first in hopes of keeping the mood light. Two nights ago he even bet with Bo Yi that he would only smile and not cry, but when he, cousin Ma Si Hung and Bo Yi talked about the senior Mr. Tsang's life, he still broke down. Chi Wai described that he saw the warmth of friendship at this memorial, which made the memorial even more meaningful. He believed that his father would be able to see that in Heaven.
Chi Wai also said that his father was his idol. He taught with his action Chi Wai the lessons of life. In addition he was more amazing than Chi Wai because he was 100% good husband, good to the family and even more to his wife. In memory of his father, Chi Wai two nights ago while the entire family was in Hong Kong took everyone to an old place for the famous Swiss chicken wings. Unfortunately all the other places that his father frequented were all closed. Chi Wai said that all of his father's affairs have been taken care of yesterday, but his father's memorial tablets will be placed in Taiwan and all the ceremony will only take place in Taiwan.
Bo Yi described Grandpa Tsang as her entire life because Grandpa raised her. He not only took care of her everyday life but also taught her life lessons. What did she feel her father Chi Wai resemble Grandpa the most in? She joked that his handsomeness, which made everyone laugh. Then she again stated that both Papa and Grandpa valued friends, treated friends well, did not have any difference in their hearts. Even with strangers they were very friendly and polite. Grandpa's action influenced her, and she hoped that she would be able to influence her next generation as well.
Bo Yi also created a memorial program for Grandpa. When she was looking through Grandpa's old photos and newspaper clippings, she not only discovered how amazing Grandpa was but also he kept newspaper clippings of Chi Wai and her! She and Ma Si Hung also wrote elegies for Grandpa, only Chi Wai did not hand in any writing. Chi Wai defended himself right now and said, "I planned to read theirs and make additions, but they wrote too well." When Chi Wai read the program, what was his deepest impression? He honestly said that not asking for help the items that Papa used like hair wax. When he looked at photos of Papa's youth, he joked, "(Roy) Cheung Yiu Yeung!" Reporters said that he looked like Mommy and he agreed. "So every time I dress up as a woman I feel I am playing Mommy. I too thought Lo Mik Shuet was Yuen Siu Cheung's mother." In addition, Alan said that his father and Tsang Chi Wai's father were soccer players so they were close friends. The first time he met Chi Wai was in the locker room. Alan said, "Chi Wai's father was Chi Wai's idol, my father was my hero. England and the English Premier League, they are forming the Heaven Premier up there."
