The BAFTA's (Orange British Academy Film Awards) took place today, Sunday February 13th, 2011 and the winners have been announced.
The King's Speech let the nominations and now it takes home a stellar 7 awards including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, 3 acting awards for Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush, Original Screenplay and Score. It's interesting to see that there is a split between best film (The King's Speech) and best director which went to David Fincher for The Social Network, which also won adapted screenplay and editing which means The Social Network won 3 out of the 4 awards it was nominated for. More multiple winners include Inception which picked up 3 awards with Production Design, Sound and Visual Effects and Alice in Wonderland which won Costume Design and Make-Up & Hair.
I was thrilled to hear the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star, which is voted by the public and went to Tom Hardy (Inception, Bronson) and also announced was the Academy Fellowship to Christopher Lee and Outstanding British Contribution to Film went to The Harry Potter Films.
