Last night a year ago was Election Day 2010, chock full of midterm election coverage, repeat episodes and lower than average ratings. So last night's ratings look pretty good in comparison. CBS won the night last night with a 3.2 rating, up from a 1.9 on the same night last year. FOX scored a 3.0 in the fast nationals last night, more than doubling the 1.4 last year. NBC averaged a 2.3 last night, up a touch from last year's 2.1. Only ABC (2.3 last night) saw a decline (from a 2.4 last year with an original, expanded edition of Dancing Results and ABC News election coverage). The updated sweep to date numbers follow, but click "read more" to see the real news of last night: FOX's attempt to return its Tuesday lineup.
NOVEMBER SWEEP SCORECARD
2011 vs 2010 Through Day 6 of 28
2011 2010
FOX 4.2 3.6 +19%
CBS 2.7 2.4 +14%
ABC 2.3 2.5 -10%
NBC 2.6 2.5 + 4%
Remember that really cool FOX Tuesday lineup from the beginning of the season? Let me refresh your memory: Glee kicked off the night at 8:00, followed by the comedy hit starring Zooey Deschanel New Girl at 9:00, and capped off by last year's semi-hit comedy Raising Hope. Well, after three full weeks of pre-emptions from baseball and special nights of The X Factor, America seems to have forgotten about the shows, too. All three shows hit season lows last night when they were finally able to return. While a 3.5 for New Girl is nothing to sneeze at, it has a long way to go to regain its undeniable hit status.
CBS Tuesday rolls on without any interruption but at the low end of the season's ratings range. NCIS, pending an official national uptick, is sitting at tying a season low, as is the 10 pm entry Unforgettable. NCIS: LA is sitting a tenth of a point above the season low. Still the ratings are enough to win the night, even (shockingly) at 10 pm.
Unforgettable 2.9 2.5 2.5 2.3 2.5 2.5 2.3*
Down three weeks in a row, Last Man Standing is still looking for its bottom. My guess is that it settles in at a 2.5 in the next few weeks, while Man Up! might settle around a 1.6. But we shall see. Dancing with the Stars Results rebounded a bit to a 2.8 last night despite the softening 8 pm hour ahead of it. Also, Body of Proof bounced up a few tenths, back above the 2.0 Mendoza line.
Dancing Results 2.9 2.9 2.9 3.3 2.6 2.6 2.8*
Body of Proof 2.2 1.8 2.0 1.8 1.9 1.8 2.0*
NBC tied its best Tuesday performance of the season with a 2.3 for The Biggest Loser and a 2.2 for Parenthood. Not exactly cause for celebration at Universal City, but it beats bad news.
