Film Fan Fridays for Friday November 7, 2008

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!

Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday November 7, 2008! Quite recently I was thinking it felt like it was going to be a thin rest of the year for films to fill up the awards season. But this week we have three releases that have been getting rave reviews and becoming festival favourites. Those films are Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York, Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire (opens Wed Nov 12/08) and the French film I've Loved You So Long. It looks like it's shaping up to be a good two months after all!

In limited release this week we have along with the captivating Synecdoche, New York we have films that all look a little melancholy but also very interesting. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas set in and beside a concentration camp, I've Loved You So Long with dark secrets and The World Unseen with the pursuit of love in a changing world. We also have the documentary Triage: Dr. James Orbinski's Humanitarian Dilemma which shows the real pursuit for change.

In wide release this week we have escapism with the animated Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa but most of the films are dealing with reality. Be that of debt collection with Real Time, or paying for your crimes with Role Models and finally with revisiting the past with Soul Men.

As one week turns to the next, the previously mentioned critically acclaimed Slumdog Millionaire will open in limited release next Wednesday November 12/08.

November festival fever continues this week with nine festivals graces us over the next 7 days. I'll be covering the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival from November 12 - 16, 2008 so be sure to check here at Movie Moxie for daily reviews & pictures.

Have a great weekend!

Shannon
