Film Fan Fridays for Friday July 9, 2010

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!

Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday July 9, 2010! Well summer sure has hit, at least in Toronto where we've been having one hell of a heat wave, and now a rainfest. Hitting the theatres can be a perfect escape from the weather!

In limited release this week we have 4 releases to choose from, starting with one that I'm surprized is a limited release: The Kids Are All Right, a charming looking comedy centred on family with lesbian parents (Annette Benning & Julianne Moore) to 2 teenage kids who look into meeting their biological father (Mark Ruffalo), I'm actually quite looking forward to this one. Next up is Wild Grass, Winner of Jury Special Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival 2009, it follows Marguerite (Sabine Azéma)and Georges (André Dussollier) though an unusual romantic journey starting with a lost wallet. Also in release is Act of Dishonour, a drama set in northern Afghanistan and centred on Mena, a bride-to-be whose perspectives are changed upon the arrival of a Canadian film crew. Last limited release of the week is the Indian thriller Red Alert: The War Within.

In wide release this week we have is one of my Most Anticipated Films of the Year (Part 2!): The Girl Who Played with Fire / Flickan som lekte med elden, the film adaptation of second part of the Millenium Trilogy based on the books by the late Stieg Larsson, and it follows this years earlier release of following this years earlier release of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo / Män som hatar kvinnor, hopefully we'll also get Part 3 this year as well! A more traditional summer wide release is Predators, which looks like it's going to be a fun action flick with a wild cast including Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Laurence Fishburne and Danny Trejo. Last up for wide releases this Friday is the animated, 3D and family flick Despicable Me featuring the voice talents of everyone from Steve Carell to Julie Andrews. To be honest, I can't quiet get what it's about other than possibly take over the world, which is always a good start.

Not out quite just yet is Disney's latest flick, The Sorcerer's Apprentice starring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel which has a mid-week releases next Wednesday July 14, 2010. It also has several midnight shows on Tuesday late night if you can't wait an extra moment to see it.

Have a great weekend!

Shannon
