Film Fan Fridays for Friday December 24, 2010

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!

Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday December 24, 2010! It feels so rare that Friday is a the day that Christmas Eve falls on. It's one weekend where although I know there are always going to be films I want to see, I'll be holiday-ing at it's my families traditional day to celebrate with my Mom. But before countdown to dinner begins, (which it already has...hehe), let's take a look at the films that are being released this week.

In limited release this week we have two releases today, on December 24th with Barney's Version, which is based on the Mordecai Richler novel and stars Paul Giamatti in the title role for which he's been nominated for a Golden Globe. And yep, it's Canadian (well, a Canadian/Italian co-pro). Also out in limited releases is If You Are the One 2, from director Feng Xiaogang and it's playing in select AMC's in the city. It's a new title to me but after seeing the director's film Aftershock earlier this year, I'd certainly be interested in seeing more of his work! Will have to see how that one goes.

In wide release this week we have just one release and it has to wait until tomorrow which makes it a Christmas Day release on December 25, 2010 and that is Gulliver's Travels (in 3D) starring Jack Black, Jason Segal and Emily Blunt.

With just three films that's a pretty quiet Christmas weekend, but don't forget we had two film out earlier this week with the comedy Little Fockers and the Coen Brother's go western with a fabulously dark True Grit. For those feeling a little more for fun feel I loved and would recommend TRON: Legacy, at least to fans of the first film. Also, the fantastic biopic The King's Speech opens wider this week as well, and it's a must-see for awards and drama fans alike.
