I find it odd that the week before Valentine's Day only has a few romantic comedies and romances in the set of releases but has a fair of horror. Now that I'm complaining... and with that let's take a look at the DVD releases for February 8, 2011.
- Still Walking / Aruitemo aruitemo Criterion release of this masterful Japanese family drama for director Hirokazu Kore-eda.
- Paranormal Activity 2 not as good as the break-out original, but this sequel has some pretty good chops for a part 2 horror film. DVD release has an Unrated director's Cut, which I'm curious about!
- Wild Target (DVD Review) UK crime comedy starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt and Rupert Grint.
- I Spit on Your Grave (2010) remake of the rape/revenge film and release include filmmakers commentary track with producer Lisa Hansen and director Steven R. Monroe (DVD & BluRay)
- I Spit on Your Grave (1978) original rape/revenge film comes to both DVD & BluRay.
- Tamara Drewe This is one of several this week that is on my to see list, a UK comedy starring Gemma Arterton and directed by Stephen Frears.
- Middle Men another on the to see list, a crime/comedy starring Luke Wilson, Giovanni Ribisi and Gabriel Macht. This one didn't get released in theatres here although I did see posters up last summer.
- Year of the Fish Interesting visual style on this one with gentle rotoscoping (check out the trailer) and the story is a new take on Cinderella story set in a New York City massage parlour.
- Kalamaty Thriller starring Nick Stahl & Beau Garrett and I kept getting a bit of a horror vibe on this one which is what makes me want to see it at some point.
- By the Will of Genghis Khan Another on the to see list, curious about this film following Temudjin / Genghis Khan.
- My Soul to Take (podcast review) return to horror for director Wes Craven and follows a group of now-highschoolers who were all born on a dark day of their towns past.
- It's Kind of a Funny Story unconventional comedy set in a psych ward, stars Keir Gilchrist, Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts.
- You Again comedy where old rivals reunited around a wedding.
- For Colored Girls based on the play by Ntozake Shange featuring many womens stories, directed Tyler Perry.
- Project Runway Season 8 I can't believe Project Runway is in season 8! I must have missed several of these, but also didn't know they even came out on DVD. I sense it's time to catch up!
