NBC has followed up its announcement of its midseason schedule with a surprisingly timid order for 2 back-up scripts for GRIMM. (In comparison, last month the network ordered 6 back-up scripts for the now-deceased Prime Suspect.)
It's certainly true that Grimm has only aired 3 episodes thus far of its initial 13 episode order, which means there's plenty of time so see how future episodes play out before making additional financial commitments. And the show's trajectory thus far has been less than stellar, with a 2.1 premiere (against Game 7 of the World Series) followed by 1.8 and 1.6. Plus, since the series began its run so late, it may well be that even in success, 22 episodes just wouldn't be necessary.
But... still. Hardly a vote of confidence for the last remaining hope of NBC's fall. Onward to winter! Smash is on the way!
