THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI) yesterday held a press conference in Beijing.  Director Derek Yee Tung Sing and the cast including Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Lau Ching Wan, Zhou Xun, Yan Ni and others attended.  Lau Ching Wan pointed out that in the film Leung Chiu Wai and Zhou Xun hit him and even forced him to recite a Putonghua tongue twister.  Yee Tung Sing denied that and said that in the film he already put Lau Ching Wan in a romance with Zhou Xun, which was already considered a joy for him.  He even arranged seven wives for him.  Yet he never would have guessed that he still had complaints.  Next time he would arrange seven men for him.

Leung Chiu Wai also said that his image in the film was too serious, thus he was extremely envious and Yan Ni and Wu Gang's comedic performances.  Yee Tung Sing joked that Wai Jai in the film was responsible for being handsome with infinite charm.  Yet Wai Jai was very glad to work with Yee Tung Sing and so many excellent actors.  In addition it was a very happy comedy that left many beautiful memories in his life.  In the future when he will recall this production he will laugh.  Wai Jai even asked the director to save a spot for him in the sequel.  Zhou Xun also stated that she was very honored to be able to work with two Best Actors and thanked the director for giving her the opportunity.

Wai Jai has been working on Wong Kar Wai's THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) for over two years.  For the character Wai Jai has given a lot and was even injured on the production.  His wife Carina Lau Ka Ling's heart could not have ached more as she blamed Wong Kar Wai.  Wai Jai yesterday admitted that he would not work with Wong Kar Wai again for awhile.  THE GREAT MAGICIAN director Yee Tung Sing revealed that Wai Jai once said that he would make five more movies then retire, but Wai Jai denied that.  "I hope that my entire life is in acting, to have work at every stage."  Wai Jai said that he would like more chances to make comedies.  As soon as he said that people were reminded that he did not want to work with Wong Kar Wai who rarely made comedy films.  He said, "I just finished Wong Kar Wai's movie, both of us are very tired and need a long time to recover.  Maybe it will be a long, long while before we work together again.  No one should be too concerned about me working with him, for now we wouldn't."

Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi who Yee Tung Sing made into a star recently has been poison at the box office.  Yee Tung Sing spoke on her behalf and hoped that the media would not treat this matter as a joke.  He thought that Pak Chi should have someone around her to tell her the truth.  "I don't know why she was in such a hurry to take so many roles, but I understand that she alone has to feed her entire family.  Her poor box office doesn't mean that she doesn't know how to act.  I don't dare to confirm that I will work with her again or not though."

The film THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI) held a premiere last night.  Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Lau Ching Wan, Zhou Xun and Derek Yee Tung Sing attended.  Carina Lau Ka Ling came in support of her husband Wai Jai.  Recently Lau Ka Ling was rumored to have purchased a 30 million yuan home for her husband.  Wai Jai said that he had no idea.  Although the gift has not arrived in his hands, old lady Lau Ka Ling's "flesh delivery" of love and company for the movie already melted him.

When asked about the gift, Wai Jai asked whether it was a surprise.  Perhaps the reporters ruined it, but he really had no idea.  Wai Jai said that Ka Ling has always had properties in Shanghai, maybe she just switched homes or bought one for Mommy.  The Shanghai home would be useless to him since he would not move to Shanghai.

Wai Jai said that normally he would exchange gifts with Ka Ling for fun, especially on holidays or birthdays.  Last month for Ka Ling's birthday he gave her a thoughtful gift that all women liked.  If he received the 30 million home would he return the favor?  He joked, "How can that be possible, don't be silly!  Stop testing me."

This Lunar New Year he might be in Hong Kong, with work on hand he had concerns despite wanting to go skiing.  He has not gone in two years already and he really wanted to go.  Wai Jai still had Wong Kar Wai's THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) to work on.  He looked awkward when asked about this film as he added that it will wrap soon.

Speaking of Andy Lau Tak Wa's impending fatherhood, would Wai Jai catch up in a hurry?  He said that it was up to nature, including whether he would accept artificial insemination.  He said that having a child could not be rushed, it was not like all he had to do was wish and it would be granted.  He wanted to win the lottery too!

Lau Ching Wan and Yee Tung Sing rushed from Shanghai to promote.  They were working on the film SIU SUT DIK JI DAN in the Mainland.  Speaking of his good friend Daniel Wu (Ng Yu Cho)'s good news as his wife Lisa S was rumored to be pregnant, Yee Tung Sing said that he immediately sent a congratulation text to him as soon as he heard, but Ng Yin Cho said that it was not true.  Yee Tung Sing was disappointed as he thought a little Daniel would definitely be very cute.  Some suggested for Yee Tung Sing to have his own as Lau Tak Wa too would become a father.  He said, "Wa Jai is younger than me!  I don't know if I can."

THE GREAT MAGICIAN is the first film that he directed in the Mainland.  He hoped that a comedy in the New Year would be suitable to Mainland viewer taste.  He was also adjusting to work in the Mainland.  Would he head north and stop making Hong Kong films? Yee Tung Sing really wanted to make a Hong Kong film, but finding a film investor in Hong Kong was hard.  If he found someone it would only be for 10 million small production.  He did not want to make it hard for his actor friends and ask them to lower their salaries to make his movies.

The Jeff Lau Chun Wai directed, Eason Chan Yik Shun, Huang Yi, Kenny Bee (Chung Chun To) and Stephy Tang Lai Yun starred new film EAST MEETS WEST 2011 (DUNG SING SAI JAU 2011) yesterday held a press conference in Shenzhen.  Earlier Huo Siyan blasted Huang Yi online.  Yesterday Huang Yi did not appear to be affected and even sang with the cast.  Unfortunately when she accepted flowers she had a wardrobe malfunction.

The event played the film trailer, in which Huang Yi rarely bared her back and her cleavage career line.  Yesterday in a white wig, she joked that director Lau Chun Wai "forced" out a career line.  Was it
Huang Yi's first sexy performance?  She said, "Right, at first I thought it wouldn't be too much, but the 'heavenly goddess costume' was low cut in the front and the back.  The first scene we shot was this scene, I still wasn't used to it.  Finally I had to drink white wine for courage, but I drank too much and fell asleep."  Huang Yi said that after completing the film she lost 10 kilograms.  Now when she walked she had extra self confidence.  As for Huo Siyan's online blast, Huang Yi said, "Lately I have been busy with promotions, I don't want to interrupt my life.  Arguing can't resolve problems.  Anything that I want to say or do the statement has already said it.  I still have to keep living my life."  As for legal action, she said, "If I am out of ideas that I would use the law to protect myself."  When asked whether Huang Yi knew JK in the rumors, her assistant immediately helped out and hoped that the interview would put the film first.  Huang Yi also politely put her hands together and ended the interview.

Eason praised Director Lau.  He said, "With Wong Kar Wai movies no one knows what's going on, but with Director Lau's movies you know what's going on." Director Lau joked that Eason already insulted Director Wong, his future would be dark.  Eason said about publicly stomping on Wong Kar Wai on stage, "It's just a joke.  I hear everyone after making his movies say they don't know what they made.  Does anyone have a sense of humor?"  In addition, the event unveiled a poster and Stephy was missing from it.  She explained, "The director didn't want my character to be unveiled too soon, so I don't mind."

[2011.05.07] AARON KWOK AND ZHANG ZIYI ATTENDS LOVE FOR LIFE PREMIERE

courtesy of takungpao.com

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Zhang Ziyi two nights ago attended the film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) Beijing premiere. Sing Sing honestly said that in the film their relationship trickled. Unlike the modern young people's romance, its expression was very solid true love. If he was younger and saw the film, he definitely would want to get married sooner. However now he definitely would not get married in a flash because he wanted to make more movies. In addition, Zhang Ziyi said that this summer she might make a movie in Hong Kong, depending on Wong Kar Wai's THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) progress. She said, "Honestly, now the Mainland platform is rather wide, Hollywood also has many bad films. I still have to look at quality when choosing movies."

Known as the "Student Prince", film industry big brother Alan Tang Kwong Wing Tuesday died perhaps due to a heart attack at his home at the age of 64. Big Brother's daughters Yip Yan and Yip Wai yesterday went to identify the body. Yip Yan even asked reporters not to take photos. After half an hour, they left teary eyed and returned home. In the afternoon Chan Sin Chi helped the over 80 year old Pak Shuet Sin to the home. Later Connie Chan Bo Chu and John Chiang Dai Wai and his wife appeared. Soon, Yip Yan and Yip Wai again left home. Actually they along with Chan Suk Fun went to take care of their father's affairs at the funeral home, the details of which would be announced later.

Appearing in the public less in recent years, Tang Kwong Wing at the 2008 Lydia Shum Din Ha memorial event publicly blasted Adam Cheng Siu Chau for not fulfilling his fatherly duty and take care of Joyce Cheng Yun Yi. Yesterday Chau Guoon and Liza Wong Ming Chuen conducted final rehearsal for their New Century 2011 concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum. After 3PM, Ah Jeh with a pair of sunglasses but no make up arrived with her assistants and others . Did she hear about Tang Kwong Wing's passing? She said that she watched the news and said that they never worked together. She said, "We seem to have been in a movie but we didn't have any scene together. He was closer to Fei Jeh. I know they constantly met for dinner. Dai Soh Janet (Mrs. Tang Kwong Wing) sometimes would come to see my show. (Was the news of her passing surprising?) Yes! I always thought he was in great health, great shape!" The last time Ah Jeh saw him was last Halloween. She said, "At the time I drove past Central and suddenly three people in black caught my eyes. He, his wife and daughter were going to a party. I knew that he has always loved his family. (Did you feel he was very cool?) Yes! He studied at New Method (College), my sister went to New Method too so I paid attention. He truly was very cool, he was the Student Prince!" Chau Guoon arrived with his assistant and others at that moment. He only smiled and waved to everyone before rushing into the Hong Kong Coliseum.

In addition, director Wong Kar Wai's career rose after working on the Tang Kwong Wing invested film AS TEARS GO BY (WONG GOK KAR MOON) and DAYS OF BEING WILD (AH FEI JING JUEN). Wong Kar Wai said about his passing, "I always thought Big Brother was a healthy and happy person. Receiving this news I truly feel very surprised and sadden. He was a great friend and boss, the first who encouraged and supported me to become a director. He also shared a lot of experience with me. I would always remember her. I want to send my condolences to his family." Currently working on a series, Nancy Sit Ka Yin after receiving the news was so sad that her voice changed. She had no way to accept the news to be true. She remembered her first film with Big Brother, BUNNY GIRL (TOH NUI LONG). She played the title role and praised Big Brother was very heroic and willing to help people. She also sent her condolences to his family. Today she would return to Hong Kong and call Dai Soh.

Tang Kwong Wing's older daughter Tang Yip Yan yesterday posted online. "Nothing more could be said. Thank you everyone for your support and concern. We need persistent determination to get over the difficult times. I hope Papa's truth, honor, love and other spirits can properly live on with us. We also would continue to ignite and spread his fire of truth to this world. Papa, we love you very much!" Many artists remembered Tang Kwong Wing online. Ellen Chan Nga Lun wrote, "My dear Big Brother Tang Kwong Wing has passed away! Very sad! Too sudden, very hard to accept!" Anita Yuen Wing Yi: "Go in peace Big Brother! Dai Soh please take care!" Lam Man Chung, "Big Brother Wing in my eyes -- Tang Kwong Wing, even when he was waiting for a ride he was still cool! Big Brother, go in peace! We miss you." Peter Kam Pui Tat: "Every time I see a superstar passing, it is like a little piece of my heart fading away. Today is no exception. Tang Kwong Wing, rest in peace. I remember the days of carrying a stool in front of the television and watching you." Filmko Entertainment chair Alex Wong Hoi Fung, "Back then when Mr. Tang Kwong Wing invested in DAYS OF BEING WILD, he withstood the enormous pressure of going over time and budget, finally a classic film was made! Hopefully in Heaven he would continue to support Chinese films!" Yuen Siu Cheung: "I miss Student Prince, outstanding filmmaker, philanthropist, dog loving elder and good papa." Hins Cheung King Hin: "Life is unexpected, I just saw Big Brother on the night of the 25th at a friend's wedding banquet......Elder Tang's reputation would endure and honor would remain." Ada Choi Siu Fun: "Very sad! Miss you!" Jingle Ma Chor Sing: "Big Brother Wing has contributed a lot to film in his life, very sad! I wish you a safe journey!" In addition, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Sharon Chan Man Chi, Monica Chan Fat Yung, Stephy Tang Lai Yun, Christine Ng Wing Mei, Bondy Chiu Hok Yi and Choi Yat Chi all wished Big Brother a safe journey.

[2011.02.17] THE GRANDMASTERS CATCHES U.S. BUYERS' EYES

courtesy of singtao.com

The Berlin Film Festival will take place between February 10 and 20. The Hong Kong Film Development Council representative and a dozen or so Hong Kong directors including Alex Law Kai Yui, Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting, Ivy Ho (Ong Sai), Barbara Wong Chun Chun, Yanyan Mak Yuen Yan, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Clement Cheng Si Kit and others will attend and recommend many low budgets Hong Kong life reflecting films like ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW (SHUI YUET SUN TAU), CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI), GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) and LOVER'S DISCOURSE (LUEN YUN SHUI YU) as well as new directors overseas. Hong Kong Film Development Council Secretary General Wellington Fung Wing expressed that currently local low budget film development strategy is "rooted in South China, broadcast to the entire nation". In addition, a foreign film site reported that Wong Kar Wai's new film THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) after airing its trailer earlier at the Berlin Film Festival is already in negotiation with an U.S. buyer over North American rights.

[2011.02.10] GRANDMASTERS UNVEILED IN BERLIN

courtesy of singtao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Wong Kar Wai directed film THE GRANDMASTERS earlier unveiled lead actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai's GRANDMASTER look, surprised the American Film Market, led to attention from buyers and fans everywhere and even started an online poster bid fever. THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) has been in production for awhile. The film company in order to satisfy everyone's curiosity would strike again when it would display Wai Jai and Zhang Ziyi's action sequences from the film at this year's Berlin Film Festival and demonstrate the GRANDMASTER fashion without holding anything back.

After Wai Jai's dark clothes and white straw hat Ip Man look in THE GRANDMASTER was exposed, people proclaimed the birth of a Chinese super hero and a new icon of a dark warrior. Immediately it became the target of imitation in the business. Because Wai Jai's dark warrior in the rain look did not clearly show his face, this time the film company will display Wai Jai's heroic look fully in Berlin. Wai Jai's unique Ip Man look swept across Europe and America and started a GRANDMASTERS fever. Even European and American distributors would spare no expense on promoting this Wong Kar Wai kung fu epic at this year's Berlin Film Festival film market. They would attract buyers with Leung Chiu Wai and Zhang Ziyi's action sequences. Conceivably after Wai Jai and Zhang Ziyi, other key characters' unique looks in the film would gradually be revealed.

European distributors outside the film market center deliberately selected an eye catching spot, built two buildings and filled their walls with Wai Jai and Zhang Ziyi's GRANDMASTERS posters. In the poster Wai Jai used both fists and kicks and displayed his Wing Chun. Zhang Ziyi showed her eight diagram palm style and brought a refreshing look to everyone. Their stills surrounded the building walls and became one of the promotion focus. Actually Wong Kar Wai broke into the European and American markets with IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (FA YEUNG NIN WA), which also began one of the foreign films in the European market with the box office.

Once distributed over 1,000 films, the Sil-Metropole Organization celebrated its 60th anniversary with an even last night in Beijing. Many film professionals attended. Most of the attention went to the Wong Kar Wai directed THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI)'s cast including Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Zhang Ziyi, Zhao Benshan, Chang Chen, Song Hye-Kyo, Xiao Shenyang and Wang Qingxiang, who rushed from the Guangdong set. The team presented an oild painting poster to the company.

The Hong Kong film representative group was enormous, with Sil-Metropole famous film professionals Zhang Xinyan, Zhu Hong, Pak Yan, Henry Fong Ping and Paw Hee Ching, Ann Hui On Wa, Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, Karen Mok Man Wai, Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Pang Ho Cheung, Gordon Chan Ka Seung, Ng See Yuen, Eric Tsang Chi Wai and others. Mainland representatives included host Zhang Guoli, Jia Zhangke, Siqin Gaowa and others. The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region director Li Gang also attended. At the event Sil-Metropole chief Song Dai looked back at the exciting history of
Sil-Metropole in the past 60s and announced Sil-Metropole's future developments and new ideas.

Around 5:30PM, guests began to arrive on the red carpet. Yet THE GRANDMASTERS cast did not enter through the red carpet. The banquet began at 6:15PM, the event showed THE GRANDMASTERS promotional film that did not have any scene from it at all. Host Zhang Guoli with his sunglasses on joked that this trailer was mysterious enough, after such a long shoot the trailer had no scene at all. Then actors Leung Chiu Wai, Song Hye-Kyo, Xiao Shenyang, Zhang Ziyi, Zhao Benshan, Wang Qingxiang appeared on stage.

Speaking of the fight scenes, Wai Jai said that he was not worried as he practiced for a long time. He practiced so many that his arm was broken at the hand of his mentor. Zhang Guoli joked that the scene of Wai Jai's arm being broken was not preserved, which truly was a regret for
Chinese film because it was worth a lot of money. The fight scene in the rain he said was very difficult and took all 30 days. Zhang Guoli joked that it only took 30 days, someone had to thank Wong Kar Wai. Normally it might take 3 months. Zhang Ziyi in the film played a martial art expert, Zhang Guoli praised her eight diagram palm in the snow scene was very pretty. Zhang Ziyi said that this scene was shot last winter. At the time workers joked that this shoot would not complete as they predicted whether they would have to shoot it again next year. Surprisingly they were right. She recalled the 30 degree below zero (Celsius) shoot environment as truly tough. Chang Chen played an eight diagram expert. For the film he trained two years but the training benefited him a lot. Even his health improved. Song Hye-Kyo in the film played Wai Jai's wife, but they did not stand together on the stage last night. Song Hye-Kyo joked that in the film she had to be with Wai Jai all the time in the film so she had to keep her distance. This was her first film shoot in China, she truly was pleased to be able to work with a group of such great actors. She thanked director Wong Kar Wai for his help, because at first she was not too used to it. Director Wong helped her a lot. Wong Kar Wai appeared in the end to pose for a group photo with the cast. Originally Zhang Guoli asked Wai Jai to make a kung fu pose but Wai Jai only had his hands in his pockets and played cool. He explained that he was dressed modernly so he made this pose. The actors finally sang a birthday song to celebrate Sil-Metropole's 60th year, but they looked somewhat embarrassed.

The Pang Ho Cheung produced LOVER's DISCOURSE (LUEN YUN SHUI YU) will be released in Beijing. Last night he came to celebrate. As for the upcoming LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) sequel and rumors that Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) joining the cast as the third party between Shawn Yue Man Lok and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, he said that the script was still being written and the cast has not been decided. He joked that if Ng Yin Cho joined he might play Yue Man Lok's third party. Their relationship development would be even funnier. What if Chin Wa became pregnant? He joked that whether she would work with a big belly like Anita Yuen Wing Yi did with PROTEGE (MOON TOH).

[2010.12.22] CARINA LAU CAN ACCEPT REASONABLE NUDITY

courtesy of on.cc

courtesy of singtao.com

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Jiang Wen directed, written and starred LET THE BULLETS FLY with Ge You and Chow Yun Fat had a strong cast. The only lead actress Carina Lau Ka Ling although did not have much screen time among the three Best Actors had a very outstanding performance. The audience was surprised when Jiang Wen felt her up. Yet the experienced Ka Ling said that the audience was making a big deal out of nothing. The story only reflected reality. With a trustworthy director and reasonable program, she absolutely could work on even more passionate intimate scenes without any bottom line.

Ka Ling the film played the county executive's wife. She worked mainly with Jiang Wen on the film and did not have many scenes with Chow Yun Fat. She would like to officially work with Fat Gor next time. Working with the three Best Actors this time, Ka Ling said that the collaboration was pleasant. Even if she was not in a scene she would stay on the set to watch the Best Actors at work. Her intimate scene with Jiang Wen also became the focus. The audience was surprised when Jiang Wen felt her up. Ka Ling said that she did not count how long the scene was. Before hand they rehearsed for real because she needed to be mentally prepared.

Ka Ling said that this scene actually was comedic spot for the entire film. It absolutely was not low brow humor. Instead it was funny and humorous. She pointed out that Jiang Wen was a professional actor and a good director. The script had this scene long ago and she was included in the entire scene's conception. She was told what would be done so she would not feel awkward. Ka Ling said, "So I think he was more embarrassed than me." The set was not only clear for the shot that day but Jiang Wen also gave her a little red wine. He also added a heating blanket on the carpet. He truly was very attentive.

How did Ka Ling feel during the shoot? He said, "In that environment, I already treated myself as the county executive's wife." Did she warn her husband Tony Leung Chiu Wai? She immediately said, "I don't need to! This is something that professional actors should do. It doesn't need to be made a big deal out of. Every adult has a sex life, the film only reflects life." If a film that reflected reality in the same way would have even more passionate intimate scenes, would she take it? Ka Ling quickly said, "At my age I can accept anything. As long as it is professional, the story makes sense, and the director is trustworthy, I will make it." She felt that Chinese viewers rarely watched European films so they could not accept it. She said, "Like in Hollywood films, how could you make love wearing a bra and underwear? This is very unrealistic, should you bathe in clothes too?" Did she have any bottom line? She said, "If I trust them, I am not afraid. (Would you mind nudity?) It has to be shot beautifully and not sold. The story has to require it."

When Ka Ling made 2046, she and Chang Chen also had a very daring intimate scene that Wong Kar Wai later cut. Conceivably Wong Kar Wai will find an opportunity to release the footage later. This year Ka Ling made three films in one breath. She honestly said that she wanted to
rest in the future. She also had other jobs. Of course she would like to work Jiang Wen again because he absolutely was a very capable director.
