Shannon's Definition of Art House Films: Films that are off the beaten path, sometimes trying to 'say' something, stylistically rich and the way in which they a story (if there is one) is creative and innovative. What is being said is not as important as how it is as being said. This is one of my favourite genres and when it hits it really hits home but when it misses, oh boy it can be a mess. Experimental, experiential and everything in between.

When I think of 'Art House' film, it's not hard to pull to mind films that I would classify as such, but it isn't that simple to define it. Often described as art films shown at an art house theatre, which I don't disagree with but I don't think it's limited to that. I define them as films that are off the beaten path, sometimes trying to 'say' something, stylistically rich and the way in which they a story (if there is one) is creative and innovative.
