Brothers Release Date, Broken Embraces Trailer and More

I was thrilled when I walked by the Varsity yesterday and saw the 'Coming Soon' display including a poster for Brothers confirming the December 4, 2009 release date. It looks like a compelling drama exploring war, loss and family. Based on the Danish film Brødre directed by Susanne Beir (After the Wedding / Efter brylluppet), the remake is directed by Jim Sheridan (In America) and stars Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire. You can check out trailer to get a sense of the film, but it feels like it shows way to much. I recommend only watching the first 1/4 to get a sense of the film.

The trailer for Pedro Almodóvar's Broken Embraces / Los abrazos rotos starring Penélope Cruz has been released. The film is a drama/thriller about a blind writer played by Lluís Homar. TIFF reviews seems a little lukewarm but with a December 25, 2009 sounds like the film is planning on being Oscar bait.

Trailer has been released for Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. I didn't watch it, primarily because I've not yest seen The Boondock Saints (but it's on my list!). I guess the priority to see the original now scoots up a notch or two. The official site has the release for the sequel as October 30, 2009.

Denzel Washington stars in the upcoming The Book of Eli set for release in Jan 2010 and trailer is now here so you can check it out. Feels a little The Road + Hancock + Resident Evil (sans zombies) to me. And, it's amazing how even in what looks like a post apocalyptic world women still have time for amazing skin care but men do not. However, given that it is a January release date, everyone will probably go see it.

Need some cheering up? Well one place to start is to check out the Toy Story 3 full Trailer. Looks like the toys are in for a bit of a roller coaster ride, but it's awesome to see that they still have a sense of humour and can wiggle their way into out hearts. Only problem is we have to wait until June 18, 2010 to see the whole film!

Webwords this week had a lot of love, for The Expendables trailer, but it has now *poofed* from the online world due to copyright. I did find a behind the scenes vid if you just can't wait to get a taste of the back-to-80's action craziness in this film directed by Sylvester Stallone and starring Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li and many more to come.
