DVD Releases June 15, 2010

Tuesday time which means more DVDs are hitting shelves physically and virtually. Let's have a look at what is available on DVD this Tuesday June15, 2010.

First up are a pair of documentaries I just caught up recently: aptly titled Prima Donna: The Story of Rufus Wainwright's Debut Opera which played at Inside Out in 2010 and It Came From Kuchar which hit the Bloor just last Friday and is about underground filmmakers and twin brothers George & Mike Kuchar. Next up we have Control Alt Delete, a 1999-set romantic comedy just pre the Y2K haha-not-craziness. We also have Unthinkable, a psychological thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson, Carrie-Anne Moss (Matrix Trilogy, Normal) and Michael Sheen (The Queen, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans), what a cast! That makes me instantly sold on checking it out.

Timely release for The Wolfathon is a Howling "Triple Feature" Trilogy, which actually features three not in a row but rather films 3, 5 & 6 (Marsupials, The Rebirth and The Freaks). I've never seen those sequels to The Howling, but I am checking out the original again for this weeks Wolfathon entry. Another mid-release is Sanctuary Season 2, which is a series I'm shocked I've never caught up with considering it's got a total scifi/paranormal feel. Maybe I'll catch it one day!

A few choice Blu-Ray selections this week with Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance/Oldboy/Lady Vengeance) and the original The Stepfather (1987), which is a film I'd really like to see especially as it stars Terry O'Quinn (Locke from "Lost").

If you didn't catch these 2010 releases in the theatre, they are no available on DVD: The post-apocalyptic action/thriller The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington, the coming-of-age Youth in Revolt starring Michael Cera with a (sometimes) pencil moustache, and last up is the Kristen Bell romantic comedy When in Rome.
