The Sked: SUNDAY OVERNIGHTS Oscar Ratings Not Horrible

Early ratings from the 56 metered markets (covering about half the country) indicate the Academy Awards telecast had a similar household rating and share to last year's show, as reported by Deadline.  The early demographic ratings from a subset of these markets (covering about a quarter of the country) are also similar to last year's level in the same set of big markets.  These numbers, unlike the fast nationals, ARE correctly time-zone adjusted -- they just do not measure the medium and small television markets in the country.

It appears that our ratings forecast (falling below the record low Oscar ratings from 2008) was way off, and that last night's show has a shot of at least coming closer to this year's stellar Grammy Awards rating and staying in line with recent Oscar telecasts.  When we have more projectable national numbers we will update yesterday's ratings track.
