The Sked: THURSDAY RATINGS February 23

FOX fell all the way down to a 3.2 rating last night, now in a tie for CBS for first place on the night.  Last week FOX did a 5.1 rating and a year ago on the same night a 7.2 (both nights featured a two-hour Idol).  Granted, last night was only one hour of American Idol, as the dud Finder popped back on the schedule.  But that single hour of Idol only scored a 4.4 rating.  The news just keeps getting worse for Idol and the distance from The Voice keeps getting longer.  NBC is now airing Voice promos that call its night "Must See Monday".

American Idol sunk to a series low 4.4 rating last night with part two of a glorified clip show series this week.  Idol started with a 4.0 rating at 8:00 and moved up to a 4.9 at 8:30, really unthinkable numbers just a few weeks ago.  The Finder not surprisingly declined to a 2.0 rating from 9-10 pm.  For the night, FOX averaged a 3.2, falling down to a tie for first place with CBS.  This night last year: American Idol (7.2) from 8-10 pm; by half hour: 8:00 (6.5), 8:30 (7.7), 9:00 (7.1) and 9:30 7.6.

Big Bang Theory won the 8:00 half hour, beating the first half hour of Idol by a hefty 1.2 rating point margin.  Person of Interest bounced back a bit this week, while The Mentalist continues a downward trend.  On the same night last year: Big Bang Theory (3.8), Rules of Engagement (2.8), CSI (2.7) and The Mentalist (2.8).

ABC finished in third place with a 2.3 rating from 8-11 pm.  Wipeout continues to struggle at season low levels, Grey's Anatomy turned in another low rating and Private Practice was back down after week's uptick from the Grey's crossover.  Scandal, the upcoming drama from Shonda Rhimes starring Kerry Washington, was awarded at least four 30-second promos over the course of the 9-11 pm dramas.  Look for a complete Promo Watch update for all the networks later today.  On this night last year: Wipeout (2.2), Grey's Anatomy (3.4) and Private Practice (2.3).

NBC's fourth-place 1.6 rating from 8-11 pm is actually up from last week, mainly because The Office rebounded three tenths of a rating from last week's horrible 2.3 rating to a still-pretty-scary 2.6 rating for NBC's scripted anchor.  Last year on this night NBC averaged a 2.1 rating from 8-11 pm: Community (1.8), Perfect Couples (1.4), The Office (3.2), Parks & Recreation (2.4), 30 Rock (2.3) and Outsourced (1.4).
