The Michael Tse Tin Wa starred film TURNING POINT (LAUGING GOR ji BIN JIT) opened yesterday on 27 screens. The first three shows including the 10:30, 12 and 2:30 already had near 300,000 at the box office, the highest among the circuit. TVB executive Elaine Lok Yi Ling immediately held a press conference at Television City to report the good news along with Fala Chen and Lai Yiu Cheung who were working there. She expressed that two nights ago she saw that advanced sales already reached70% and believed yesterday's total box office was decent. She hoped that the weekend will be a good performance, then they will be able to celebrate. To thank the audience's support, this day the film's "Four Great Beauties" Tracy Ip Chui Chui, Sherry Chan Song, Lorretta Chow Mei Yun and Koni Lui Wai Yi will show their appreciation at the cinema box office and Saturday another promotional event will take place at a shopping center.
Anthony Wong Chau Sun stormed away at the premiere, did Ms. Lok call him afterward? She smiled and said, "Sure! He was very happy to be on C1 (entertainment headline)! His armor didn't go to waste. (Will he be invited to the celebration?) Everyone is invited, but he and (Francis Ng) Chun Yu will be working on a series in Beijing. Since no date has been set, I don't know if they will be able to make it." As for a sequel with Chau Sun as the lead and Tin Wa in support, Ms. Lok was surprised. "Already? We are checking the box office, negotiation won't be so soon. If the audience likes it then we can keep going." Ms. Lok continued that even with good box office a sequel may not be necessary. The same team can make another story because mob and police films have a lot of room for development. She planned to send the film to film festivals.
How will she reward the cast? She said that the chance to work with Best Actors already was a reward, the rest was only additional. What did Fala like for her reward? She graciously said, "I hope I get a good role next time." Cheung Jai expressed that in recent years very few Hong Kong films had such a good opening. With TVB's numerous resources, he hoped that TVB will be able to make more movies. Then actors will be able to have more chance to perform and learn and the film industry will be revived.
