District 9 Tops in Time: Canadian, North American & UK Box Office August 14, 2009 Weekend

District 9 tops the charts this week and it's interesting that in Canada it had about the same takings as G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra in it's first weekend but in North America it was only 2/3 and people have been going on and on about a strong opening (possibly better analogy is that it did the same as Hannah Montana: The Movie in it's first week). Not that it isn't a strong film, but the numbers are the numbers. Also hitting a strong spot out of the gates, The Time Traveller's Wife takes the number 2 spot in Canada and 3 in North America but comes in at a strong number 1 in the UK.
