Have some last minute gifts to buy? Today's DVD releases have lots of great choices for you. For friends south of the border, please take note that several of the films have different release dates in The States this week.
Lots of fantastic titles to choose from this week and it is very exciting to see the documentary It Might Get Loud makes it's DVD debut, it's a outstanding film that features portraits and interactions between guitarists Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White. Next up is one of the most charming films of the year, (500) Days of Summer starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel in a different take on the romantic comedy formula. Although the musical Nine opens in theatres this week, on DVD we have the two other numerically 9 inclined films of the year: the post apocalyptic animated 9 and SciFi/Action/Commentary film District 9 that took summer audiences by storm. We also have the highly acclaimed French film Lorna's Silence.
Also out on DVD is the beautiful Japanese film Adrift in Tokyo / Tenten (available for purchase at Evokative Films store website).
Blast From the Past
I know I'd love to get my hands on this one: The Philadelphia Experiment. Nothing like Michael Paré, time travel all rolled up into a film from the 80's.
Wild Cards
Surprized this is the first I've heard of Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, a remake of the 1956 Fritz Lang film noir film this time starring Michael Douglas, Jesse Metcalfe, Amber Tamblyn and Orlando Jones. The big wild card of the week is the 4 Disc Set of Baian the Assassin with Ken Watanabe, which I couldn't even confirm *what* it is - although info points to a TV show about an acupuncturist that is also an assassin.
You've Heard of Them
The biggies this week include comedies All About Steve and Extract, along with SciFi horror Pandorum which I really wanted to love but was way too Event Horizon for me.
