DVD Releases for January 11, 2010

Time to take a look at what's out on DVD this week for Tuesday January 11, 2011 - it's an amazing week of releases including 3 titles from my 2010 Perfect List (Animal Kingdom, Mr. Nobody & Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work).

  • Animal Kingdom DVD Review) Pitch perfect, beautifully understated Australian crime/coming of age film. I'm thrilled to see this hit DVD for more people to see and enjoy it!
  • Mr. Nobody (DVD Review) I call Mr. Nobody my Inception from 2010, a smart science fiction film that asks a lot of questions, and has a lot of heart.
  • Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work (DVD Review) What an amazing documentary. Joan Rivers is an inspiration. Fearless, workaholic and hilarious woman.
  • Mademoiselle Chambon (DVD Review) Absolutely gorgeous French drama/romance. Unstated, great tension and great acting.
  • Howl James Franco stars as Allan Ginsberg in this biopic that made major waves in 2010
  • Skins Volume 4 this is the UK edition and I haven't caught up with season 3 yet but I can imagine there is more the partying and generally getting into trouble this new season. We'll be seeing a North American version of the show on the small screen soon as well.
  • Army of Shadows the 1969 war/drama gets a Criterion release on Blu Ray
  • Robinson Crusoe on Mars also gets a Criterion Blu Ray release
  • Piranha 3D (2010) the waters aren't safe for swimming! Mutant fish are going to chomp down on holiday partiers! Check out my interview with Melly Hocking costumer: dayplayer for Piranha 3d on Episode 4 of the Movie Moxie Podcast. Piranha 3D comes out in regular DVD release as well as 3D Blu-Ray release
  • Alpha & Omega I actually wanted to check out this animated film that looks like it has two furry creatures that get a little too far from home and need to hesitantly work together. I tend to like those stories.
  • The Social Networkcertainly not only a biggie of the week but also of 2010 - it's popping up on critics, fans and awards lists everywhere. Not on any of my lists of 2010, unless I had to pick a favourite trailer, because it did have a great trailer.
