BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL stars over 100 famous actors from three lands on both sides of the strait and brings to the silver screen a heart wrenching chapter in new China's history. A group of famous historical figures will appear again. In it Chow Yun Fat plays the warlord Yuan Shikai, Andy Lau Tak Wa plays the patriotic commander Cai E, Liu Ye plays the young Mao Zedong, in addition Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Chang Chen, Chen Kun, Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Wang Leehom, Simon Yam Tat Wa and other men played different historical figures. The women behind the heroes were played by many popular female stars like Zhou Xun, Fan Bingbing, Michelle Ye (Yip Shuen), Angelababy and others. The film also was shot on location in Beijing, Shanghai, Changshan, Hengdian, Guangzhou, Paris, Russia. The production was enormous and serious, the strongest in history.
1921 was an era when Chinese history drastically changed; some had bad intentions and others ambition; Yuan Shikai was power hungry and hoped to revive the Empirical reign, Cai E played sick and abandoned his beloved to escape capture, Chiang Kai Shek disguised himself as a nun to
assassinate his enemy.......finally, a group of ambitious young people swore to bring China into the new century. With their unified goal they brought a historical change to China. BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL unveiled the heroic past that few knew. During the youthful and hot blooded revolutionary era, passionate romance and unwavering determination were displayed.
BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL official began in mid August 2010 and took five months to complete. It cost almost 100 million yuan RMB. In order to bring the related history to the audience, the film shot on locations like Beijing, Shanghai, Changsha, Hengdian, Moscow and other actual locations, even the third Congress of Communist International meeting at the Kremlin and the post World War I Treaty of Versailles conference. Director Han Sanping honestly said that this shoot at the Kremlin was unprecedented.
