Film Fan Fridays for Friday September 9, 2011

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!

Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday September 9, 2011! It's TIFF time, it's TIFF time! But...before I get too excited (too late!!!), we have a whopping 7 releases in regular theatres this week alongside the festivals in and around town.

In limited release this week we have three foreign films that really came out of left field, including the cute & quirky looking Love in Space (seriously, check out the trailer it will make you smile). We also have My Kingdom a historically set film during the closing days of the 19th century under the Qing Dynasty and the Bollywood film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan / My Brothers Bride. All three are playing at the AMC Yonge & Dundas which is one of the TIFF venues, so if you have extra time between screenings or if the film you want is sold out - there are some other interesting options to check out!

In wide release this week we have four films to choose from and the first one is one I'm going to do my bestest to get out and see even during the festival: Warrior which stars Tom Hardy (Bronson), Joel Edgerton (The Square) and is centred on MMA, troubled home life & training for a tournament. I've been jazzed about it for over a year now. Another high profile film hitting theatres is Steven Soderbergh's Contagion about a fast spreading virus attacks and spreads panic around the world and it stars... just about: Matt Damon (Invictus), Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose), Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road), Gwyneth Paltrow (Country Strong) and Jude Law. We also have the comedy Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star about a kid who wants to follow in his parents footsteps and become an adult film star and last up for wide releases is certainly the counter programming choice to the festival with a monster marsh film Creature which follows a group of friends who follow local lore to seek out the monster.

Be sure to check out my daily coverage of the Toronto Film Festival here at Movie Moxie from September 8-18, 2011. You can also follow me on Twitter & Facebook for insights, reactions & ramblings throughout the festival.

Have a great weekend!
