Toronto After Dark 2011: First 8 Titles Announced!

It's time!!!! the first set of titles for the Toronto After Dark Film Festival have been released and we've got films with brains, monsters, and the bizarre which venture into space, deal with survivalism and a monster showdown. The festival opens with Canadian comedy Monster Brawl starring Art Hindle, Dave Foley and Lance Henriksen. I've become fonder and fonder of monster films this year so I'm definitely up for a monster show down! Can't wait for this one, and it will be the least amount of time to wait as it will be the very first film of the fest!

Anthology fans rejoice with this years anthology film The Theatre Bizarre with 6 films inspired by the Grand Guignol theatre Paris. Previous anthologies of Phobia 2 & Trick'r'Treat were all well received so fingers crossed we are in for another piece-by-piece treat this year.

We also have animation entries this year with the Japanimation film Redline as well as the zombie film Exit Humanity which has both blends animation with live action and stars Dee Wallace & Stephen McHattie (Pontypool). And that ain't the only zombie film, and we know their can't be only one! We also have DeadHeads filling the zombieness for a zombie comedy.

I'm thrilled to see two interesting looking science fiction films that are in this first announcement with survivalist film The Divide with an awesome cast including Michael Biehn (The Terminator, Aliens), Milo Ventimiglia & Michael Eklund (Hunt to Kill) & space-set Love featuring the music of Angels & Airways and I think this one looks absolutely fantastic.

It's very exciting to hear about World Premieres at the festival and this year Father's Day holds that honour and the films is made by the Canadian filmmaking team Astron-6 which you may remember from previous years of the festival for their shorts Lazer Ghosts 2: Return to Laser Cove and Heart of Karl. Father's Day is produced by Troma (Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead).

If you want to get a taste of all the films so far check out the festival trailer here (and below) or see all of the trailers here and check out the festivals YouTube Page. And that's less that half of the line up of the features, I'll keep our ear to the ground for more feature titles and shorts as well!

The Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2011 runs from October 20-27, 2011 at the Toronto Underground Cinema (new venue this year!). You can pick up passes here and single tickets will go on sale at the end of September, which is also when the remaining titles will be announced. But I say don't wait. So much of the festival experience is being there night after night, so I definitely recommend picking up a pass and seeing as much as you can. I know I'll be there.
