The TONY Top 50 Movies of the Decade

It's December which means lists are going to be hitting us left, right and centre all month long. Normally we'd be seeing all the top ten lists and making our own but seeing as 2010 is approaching various folks are putting their thoughts together for 10 years of film between 2000 - 2009. I am particularly excited about this as I started following film strongly (again) back in 2000 so it allows the opportunity to smile and nod approvingly, or raise the occasional eyebrow along the way.

This week the list making waves is The TONY (Time Out New York) Top 50 Movies of the Decade.

From this list it looks like 2001 was an awesome strong year giving 9 of the 50 selections whereas this year only has 1 entry, but hey - the year isn't even done yet. I'm impressed with a lot of the choices including In the Mood For Love (#2), I'm Not There (#19), I Heart Huckabees (#24), The Royal Tenenbaums (#37) and Grizzly Man (#41). But on the flip side I was a little mystified to see Femme Fatale (#18), AI Artificial Intelligence (#31) and Miami Vice (#35).

The other great thing about lists though, is that it's a way to build what feels like the never ending list of films to see. After all, I've only seen 23 of the 50 films, but 11 more of those are on already my current to see list. I won't get to complete seeing this whole list as 5 of the films are on my 'not going to see', but the final 11 I've never even heard of! They can make friends with the other 11 to see's!
