Time to take a look at a selection of DVD releases for Tuesday June 14, 2011
- Haven The Complete First Season (DVD Review) Awesome TV series that debuted summer of 2010 and follows FBI Agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) who travels to the sleepy town of Haven where supernatural-like occurrences of what locals call "The Troubles". Includes a ton of extras including commentaries on almost every episode, being the scenes, making of's interviews and more. Available on DVD and BluRay. Highly recommend checking it out and catching up to watch Season 2 which starts mid-July & you can hear me chat about it over at Hexed: Sisterhood of the Supernatural a podcast I co-host with my sister Suzie.
- Kill the Irishman (DVD Review) 1970's set biopic/crime film centred on Danny Greene (played by Ray Stevenson), who worked for mobsters in Cleveland. Based on the book To Kill the Irishman by Rick Porrell and directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, available on DVD and BluRay.
- Gallants High flying homage to martial arts films, with a bit of a new take on the genres blending with comedy, competition and martial arts.
- Red Riding Hood Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) directs an new take on the classic girl & wolf story, this version stars Amanda Seyfried (Letters to Juliet, Mamma Mia).
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Princeon Ultimate Edition they've been dishing these Ultimate Edition 2 at a time over quite a distance of time (so much so that the first twhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifo are no longer available), and now getting closer to the rest of the saga and with great timing given the final instalment will be in theatres this July. Available on both DVD and BluRay.
- The Decline of the American Empire / Le Déclin de l'empire américain - 25th Anniversary Edition Iconic and multiple Genie winning Canadian film from director Denys Arcand and is later followed by Les Invasions Barbares / The Barbarian Invasions.
- Vanishing of the Bees documentary looking on the disappearance of the honeybee.
- Stranded / Djinns supernatural veined thriller set in Northern Africa following a platoon of French soldiers on a rescue mission. Stars Saïd Taghmaoui (GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra) and Cyril Raffaelli (District 13).
- Can Go Through Skin / Kan door huid heen Award winning Dutch Film that sounds good from it's IMDb description of "The silent aftermath of a young woman's disaster is broken by her discovery of nature's old rhythms."
- Dark Moon Trilogy Collection Pretty awesome looking collection here, includes 16 Midnight Movies on 6 DVDs with titles such as: Werewolf of Washington, Zombie Hell House, Night of the Living Dead, Don't Look in the Basement, The Hatchet Murders, Fangs of the Living Dead, all for $12.49 (CAD)!
- The Other Woman Natalie Portman stars in this drama centred on a woman's relationship with her stepson.
- Hall Pass comedy starring Owen Wilson as a man who gets a 'week off' Hall Pass from his wife to have an affair(s?).
- Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son 3-quel in the Big Mamma series and she's back for more big laughs (pun intended). Stars Martin Lawrence, Brandon T. Jackson and Jessica Lucas.
