FULL WEEK BOX OFFICE ACTUALS and YEAR TO DATE June 27-July 3

The past week (seven days ending Sunday) came in down 10% versus last year's comparable week (the third significant decline in a row).  Year-to-date box office is down 8% versus last year.   

The Past Week: Total Box Office Volume

All films in wide release playing between June 27 and July 3 grossed $331 million, down 10% versus the same week in 2010 and up marginally from the average comparable week the past four years.  Year to date, all films are down 8.1% from the same period last year (an almost $450 million decline in business), and all films year-to-date are down 1% versus the comparable year-to-date number averaged over the last four years.

Updated Estimates of Final Grosses

The ShowbuzzDaily Domestic Grosses (the estimated North American gross when the film ends its run) are now: Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($356 million, 99th percentile for all wide releases the past two years), The Hangover Part II ($255 million, 95th percentile), Cars 2 ($176 million, 92nd percentile), Kung Fu Panda 2 ($161 million, 89th percentile), X-Men: First Class ($148 million, 88th percentile), Super 8 ($133 million, 86th percentile), Green Lantern ($114 million, 82nd percentile), Bad Teacher ($94 million, 76th percentile), Mr Popper's Penguins ($67 million, 66th percentile), Larry Crowne ($39 million, 46th percentile), Monte Carlo ($18 million, 18th percentile).

Weekend Actuals vs Sunday's Studio Projections

The weekend Studio Projections (Friday and Saturday actual numbers with estimates for Sunday's box office) for the top movies were (unusually) below the actual weekend figures out today.  Transformers: Dark of the Moon is $400,000 above the Sunday projection, and Cars 2 is fully $1.2 million above the Sunday projection.
