THE SKED: Early "Dead"
AMC has just announced the Season 2 premiere for THE WALKING DEAD, and they've made an interesting decision: when the show returns on Sunday October 16, it will air at 9PM instead of its original timeslot at 10. This is unusual for AMC, which airs Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Killing all at 10PM (Rubicon did air at 9, but that was as lead-in to Mad Men... and see how well that worked out). Of course, Walking Dead is the biggest ratings hit AMC has had, and they obviously have huge confidence in it. In its new slot, it'll be running in direct competition with HBO's Boardwalk Empire this fall, not to mention Family Guy on FOX and Desperate Housewives on ABC. The network has yet to announce if they'll rerun the same episode at 10 or try something else in that slot (They also haven't yet set a premiere for their upcoming new historical drama Hell On Wheels, so that could be getting the benefit of the Walking Dead lead-in.)
