The Sked: SUNDAY RATINGS February 19

Without a live event like The Grammys or NFL football, Sunday network ratings came crashing down to earth, with everyone around a 2 rating.

               Nightly Primetime Average
Sunday         CBS    ABC    NBC    FOX
02.19.2012     2.2    2.1    2.1    1.9  THIS WEEK
02.12.2012     11.3   1.9    1.6    1.7  LAST WEEK
02.20.2011     2.2    2.3    1.6    2.4  LAST YEAR

CBS led the ugly night on network TV with a pitiful 2.2 Adult 18-49 rating from 7-11 pm.  CBS had to slide the night 22 minutes, as the Northern Trust Open (the PGA event at LA's Riviera Country Club) went to a sudden death playoff (no, Tiger Woods was not involved).  From 7:00-8:00 pm (22 minutes of PGA and 38 minutes of 60 Minutes) CBS averaged a 1.8 rating.  8:00-9:00 pm (22 minutes of 60 Minutes and 38 minutes of The Amazing Race) averaged a 2.6.  9:00-10:00 pm (22 minutes of Amazing Race and 38 minutes of The Good Wife) averaged a 2.2.  10:00-11:00 pm (22 minutes of Good Wife and 38 minutes of CSI: Miami) averaged a 2.1.  The numbers in the table below are rough program averages, subject to major revision in the official nationals.  Last year on this night: 60 Minutes (1.4), Amazing Race (2.5), Undercover Boss (2.6) and CSI: Miami (2.2).

ABC, without intense competition from The Grammy Awards, rebounded from last week, but only a meager two tenths of a rating point across the night.  America's Funniest Home Videos and Once Upon a Time held last week's okay levels, while Desperate Housewives and the merciful finale of Pan Am were up about half a rating point, from horrible to terrible levels.  Last year on this night: AFHV (1.9), Extreme Makeover Home Edition (2.4), Desperate Housewives (3.1) and Brothers & Sisters (1.9).

ABC Sun    High Low  01.8 1.15 1.22 1.29 2.12 2.19
AFHV       2.0  1.1  1.4  1.2  1.1  1.9  2.0  2.0*

Pan Am     3.1  0.7  1.3  1.2  1.2  --   0.7  1.2*

FOX also bounced back -- a bit.  The Simpsons celebrated an amazing achievement (500 episodes) with a mediocre 2.6 rating, while Family Guy was up two tenths from last week's season low.  Last year 8-10 pm on this night: Simpsons (2.8), Bob's Burgers (2.2), Family Guy (3.3) and Cleveland Show (2.6).

FOX Sun    High Low  01.8 1.15 1.22 1.29 2.12 2.19

Family Guy 4.4  2.5  3.1  4.4  --   3.1  2.5  2.7*
Amer Dad   3.0  1.7  2.2  --   --   2.4  1.8  2.2*

NBC had the biggest week-to-week increase of any network Sunday (up five tenths to a second-place tie 2.1 rating).  Dateline was replaced by a repeat of The Voice, a smart move yielding a 1.3 from 7-8 pm but a very solid 1.9 repeat rating from 8-9 pm.  This set the table for the return of Celebrity Apprentice, which averaged a 2.5 from 9-10 pm and a time-period winning 2.8 from 10-11 pm.  This compares to last year's Celebrity Apprentice premiere (a few weeks later on March 6, 2011), which averaged a 2.9 from 9-10 pm and 3.3 from 10-11 pm.  On this night last year:  Dateline 7-8 pm (0.9) and SNL Prime Special 8-11 pm (2.1).
