THE SKED'S FRIDAY NETWORK SCORECARD

An atypical night gave the win to ABC, but CBS may have the key to Fridays for the rest of the season.

CBS: UNDERCOVER BOSS ran away with 8PM, ahead of the nearest competition by almost a full ratings point. A GIFTED MAN, running the rest of its episodes at 9PM, did better than it had at 8PM, but not as well as CSI NY had been doing in the slot--however, this week both Gifted and BLUE BLOODS (which was down from last week) faced unusually strong competition from ABC, so next week will be a truer test.

ABC: A special 2-hour 20/20 salute to Whitney Houston pulled a 2.0 over 2 hours, sweeping 9-11PM. Earlier, SHARK TANK was in 2d place at 8PM, down 0.3 from last week and not close to Undercover Boss.

FOX: KITCHEN NIGHTMARES did a 1.3 at 8PM, which was down 0.2 from last week. FRINGE may be hanging on for dear life, but it's consistent: it hung in there despite the lower lead-in at the same series low 1.1 it's had for the past few weeks.

NBC: 8-10PM were preempted for the NAACP IMAGE AWARDS, with a 0.8 that was at least up from last year's 0.6. With a lower than usual lead-in and a higher-than usual 20/20 as competition, DATELINE was down 0.4.

CW: Not particularly effected by any of the other networks, as NIKITA was up 0.1 and SUPERNATURAL was down 0.1.

FOX has a NASCAR race in primetime tonight, and NBC continues burning off episodes of THE FIRM. On Sunday, NBC debuts this year's CELEBRITY APPRENTICE, and HBO launches LIFE'S TOO SHORT and the new season of EASTBOUND AND DOWN, but for some, the night's highlight will be the season finale of DOWNTON ABBEY on PBS. Will Matthew and Mary ever get together?
