Golden Globe Winners 2008 (film only)

Well, it came and went in less than an hour that was the Golden Globes for 2008. I decided to Twitter through the telecast and was surprized that four of the awards weren't announced. I had to go to the Globes site to get the responses. Bizarre!

The big surprize for me was Best Director going to Julian Schnabel for The Diving Bell And The Butterfly. I've heard only wonderful things about the film but the competition was pretty fierce being up against the Coens, Sir Ridley, Tim Burton and Joe Wright. The other surprize was: no sweeps. The most awards any film won was a total of two, and those were:

No Country For Old Men (Supporting Actor - Javier Bardem, Best Screenplay)
The Diving Bell And The Butterfly (Best Director - Julian Schnabel, Best Foreign Language Film)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Best Actor Musical/Comedy - Johnny Depp, Best Film - Musical/Comedy)
Atonement (Best Film – Drama, Best Original Score)

Many favourites got the snub including Juno and Hairspray. I was thrilled to see Julie Christie win for Actress - Drama in the Canadian Away From Her, and how cool is it that Eddie Vedder
won Best Original Song - Into The Wild for "Guaranteed"? Pretty cool I say! Props also to Johnny Depp for snagging Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. He was due for that.

I did miss seeing the pretty dresses and the crazy speeches. Congratulations to all the winners!
