Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!
Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday June 27, 2008 and the 5th Year Anniversary to Film Fan Fridays! Here we are over 200 editions later and still committed to spreading the word on your weekly releases with a focus on Canadian, Foreign and Independent films. Thanks to everyone for your support throughout the years.
In limited release this week we have the beautiful Encounters at the End of the World from the one and only Werner Herzog. Out of all the films I've seen of his this is the most accessible, I would definitely recommend seeing it in the theatre for all it's glorious beauty as it documents the wonders and the people of Antarctica. Our second limited releases is the comedy The Promotion which has received a fair amount of good buzz so far.
In wide release this week we have Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed a curious documentary exploring and supporting Creationism over Darwinism and the effect on people who support this idea. With kids out of classrooms, we have the super family friendly release with the widely anticipated Wall-E "From the humans that brought you Finding Nemo". If you are looking for a little more action that cute robots, the film to see is Timur Bekmambetov's Wanted for some high flying fun.
It is a little sad that just before Canada Day our weekly release are 100% from the States, but there are a lot of great Canadian titles still in the theatres. In fact, the theatres are brimming with them covering many bases and they are all rockin' films. If you wanna rock to a doc, check out Global Metal, if you need to chill off you can almost feel the snow of Winnipeg in My Winnipeg or if you are up for some laughs try kicking back with Young People Fucking.
Have a great Canada Day & Pride weekend!
