Sword & Sandal Marathon

It's a new year and that means it's time for a new marathon. Yesterday I wrote about several upcoming 2010 releases by epic & fantastical subgenre and one of the most interesting new subgenres I've found is none other than Sword & Sandal films. Several Sword & Sandals titles graced my Decade of Movie Memories and there is no denying that we are going to see more of them in the very near future, in fact the first half of the year already has three titles: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (Feb 12, 2010), Clash of the Titans (March 26, 2010 revised: April 2, 2010) and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (May 28, 2010). So, what better time to start delving into the world of sand, swords and machismo?

What Films Will I be Watching?
Speaking literally anything that includes someone wielding a sword and wearing sandals. Overall I'll be looking at anything gladiator-eque, anything involving Greek mythology and there may be a few hybrids or new interpretations that could slip in. Here are some titles you can count on being included: Spartacus, Gladiator, Troy, Alexander, Conan the Barbarian & Destroyer, Outlander and hopefully some of the Jason & the Argonauts films and Lou Ferrigno Hercules films - but those will depend on if I can find them!

What's the Timeline?
The whole thing will kick off with the original 1981 Clash of the Titans and end with the new 2010 Clash of the Titans in late March 2010. Now, dust off it's time for the Arena and time to be entertained!

Revision: Clash of the Titans (2010) release date has changed to April 2, 2010 which gives one more week to explore Sword & Sandals films!
