Director Peter Chan Ho Sun's WE PICTURES and Edko Films, Huayi Brothers announced a joint venture with now TV to co-fund a company and release the all new film channel now Popcorn channel in mid March.  Peter's film WU XIA will be the first film to air.  Actually this project was Peter and Edko Film boss Bill Kong Chi Keung's idea, hopefully to widen the film network from film professional angels.  Peter said, "Chinese film space is narrower and narrower, if we don't take the chance we will lose our say."  He cited HBO's collaboration with several companies has been very successful.

Peter pointed out that We Pictures had the responsibility to provide films to Popcorn channel, thus he could not be slow with his future film productions.  He hoped to maintain an annual rate of three to four films.  Speaking of WU XIA's 12 Hong Kong Film Award nominations, Peter did not want to talk about the lack of a Best Director nomination.

As the New Year starts, the site Sohu's TopTen Best and Worst Film Poll again surfaced.  Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi and Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai) both became Rotten Film Actor and Actress.  Since her divorce, Pak Chi who has been away from film for years went from a divorced woman into a film industry hot property as different teams added to their offers for her help.  Unfortunately they all bombed at the box office and disappointed each one of their dream.  She too was elected the rotten film heavenly queen online.

Pak Chi came back to make THE LEGENDARY AMAZONS (YEUNG MOON NUI JEUNG) and TREASURE HUNT (MO GA JI BO).  Pak Chi who was treated time and time again to be the film gold label finally became "box office poison".  Cheung Pak Chi's return to the silver screen not only was accused of being the "expired" beauty that her heavy pancake make up could not make up for but also her discomfort in front of the camera.  No matter when she played an accessory assistant, Lara Croft, strong businesswoman or gentle housewife, all anyone saw was her haunted face with eyes opened as wide as bronze bells and a smile that seemed to be laughing but not on her lips.  Yam Yin Chai's performance was criticized as stiff as ever.  Yam Yin Chai and Cheung Pak Chi's performance in that film could rival each other in terms of rottenness and contributed to this year's ensemble performance that made many people collapse.

As for the top ten rotten films, they were MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (GOO DOH GAING WON), MURAL (WAT BEI), THE LEGENDARY AMAZONS (YEUNG MOON NUI JEUNG), TREASURE HUNT (MO GA JI BO), SHENZHOU 11, THE SORCERER AND THE WHITE SNAKE (BAK SEH CHUEN SHUET), EAST MEETS WEST 2011 (DONG SING SAI JAU 2011), MY KINGDOM (DAI MO SUN), THE DEVIL INSIDE ME (DUET MING SUM TIU) and LOVE IN SPACE (CHUEN KAU YIT LUEN).  The Top Ten Best Films are FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE (LUNG MOON FEI GAP), FLOWERS OF WAR (GUM LING SUP SAM CHAI), LOVE IS NOT BLIND, OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2), REST ON YOUR SHOULDER (GEIN SEUNG DIP), WU XIA, THE PIANO IN A FACTORY, STARRY STARRY NIGHT, KORA and DEAR ENEMY.

Tang Wei in the film SPEED ANGEL (GIK CHOOK TIN SI) played a taxi driver Siu Yi who loved to drive fast.  She was also very trained in kung fu as she was able to fight one against four.  She was very happy about displaying her abilities on the big screen for the first time to make up for WU XIA not fulfilling her "action actress" dream.

Tang Wei received her on screen mother Cheng Pei Pei's kung fu training.  She learned wholeheartedly and personally performed fight scenes.  Despite all the bruises and pain she was fine, she only hoped that no one would be too picky while watching.

In the film opening she had a fierce fight scene and had to use Tai Chi.  Tang Wei said that each time she was on the set, the director would change the way they fought and she would go back to learn the new style; later she realized that the director wanted to challenge her limits.  After completion she had a special sense of accomplishment.  Cheng Pei Pei also praised her, "Tang Wei has hope to become a new style heroine!"

Timmy Hung Tin Ming, Linda Wong Hing Ping, Carlo Ng Ka Lok and Chan Jin Peng two nights ago attended the Taylor Made-adidas Golf all new concept store opening.  A magazine published even more photos from the Rose Chan Ka Wun's allegedly molestation incident, in several she was even smiling and made people feel that at the time she actually was having fun with Benny Chan Ho Man and Joe Ma Tak Chung.  Tin Ming said that he was not interested in seeing those photos because the incident already took place.  He did not want to say much about the incident either.  He said, "I no longer have any impression of what happened, so I don't want to respond further."

Tin Ming reiterated that earlier he has already spoken from the heart.  With both parties being his friends, he was stuck in the middle.  In addition the matter began with him and now involved legal responsibility, he only wanted to quiet down and gave everyone space.  Did he feel the incident disturbed him?  Did his father yell at him?  He said, "Daddy didn't yell at me, only urged me not to respond further.  He was afraid that the more I spoke the worse I got because listeners could misunderstand my meaning.  Thus I would rather not make a sound.  (Would you do something for them?)  I have done what I should do.  I have already apologized to Rose and Ho Man, I hope everyone would give Ho Man a chance to change.  (Rose was smiling in many photos, would you vindicate her?)  I have no impression of what happened then, but she is very happy and can easily get along with everyone.  She also doesn't get upset.  (Is she an innocent girl?)  You can't say that, with the environment you can't say she was happy because she was smiling.  You can't just look at the surface.  I can't respond for her, but she is very nice, very gentle and accommodating to friends."  Tin Ming said that he did not have to favor either side but hoped that no one would think the worst or just about something negative.  Ultimately he pleaded for space for everyone.

In addition, already recovered from an earlier stroke Jimmy Wang Yu with WU XIA was nominated for the Golden Horse Best Supporting Actor.  Unfortunately he lost to WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE's new comer Boken Kosang.  His daughter Wong Hing Ping said that she was not disappointed about her father's defeat because in her heart her father was already the best.  He did not need the Golden Horse award to prove that.  She said, "I instead was worried about him having to attend the celebration if he won, then he would drink again.  After the event I called him, he was OK.  He even said that after several decades of living he was very understanding, he was very gracious."

Speaking of Wang Yu's self ridicule during the Lifetime Achievement Award presentation that made everyone laugh, Wong Hing Ping said, "I didn't feel it was funny, as his daughter I am very worried.  However his mentality was pretty positive."  She also said that her father has completely recovered from the stroke and was in great spirit.  He not only constantly came to Hong Kong to visit Mother Wong but also worked on the film GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI) in the Mainland.  She joked, "The production said that it needed my permission, but actually I know Daddy has the acting bug.  In addition the production guaranteed that he would only have dramatic scene and no fight scene.  Since he recovered very well, I didn't want to disappoint him.  Actually I couldn't stop him even if I wanted to."  For the performance, Wang Yu flew to Hengdian and Xian.  She admitted that at first she was a little scared, luckily the team treated him like a king.  If they were worried about the cold they would immediately bring blankets.  When he returned to Taiwan he immediately called his daughter.  Thus she too very much looked forward to the film release.

WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE took home four Golden Horse Awards including Best Feature Film.  Director Wei Te-Sheng at the celebration laughed very happily; but he admitted that he was somewhat disappointed about not winning other awards.  As for Best New Actor, SEEDIQ had three nominees and all lost to Ko Chen-Tung.  Director Wei was asked whether he would be petty, he joked, "Today I can't bring swords so it's unfair."  He said that when the Best Feature Film was announced, at the time he wanted to give up, took the chance to run to the bathroom and escaped the awkwardness of defeat in the front of the camera.  Luckily he finally won the biggest award, which surprised him very much.

In addition, the Best Actor favorite, JUMP! ASHIN's Eddie Peng Yu-yen lost to Wa Jai.  When Doze Niu Chen-Zer and Lee Lieh presented the Best New Director Award they even said that he did not have much chance to win.  Peng Yu-Yen said that the director was only joking because they were close.  However, he admitted that he was somewhat disappointed because he gave a lot in JUMP!  Although this time he could not win, he was very happy to be nominated with other elders.

Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) two nights ago was a guest presenter along with Shu Qi.  Then he even attended the WU XIA celebration.  Big Brother Jimmy Wang Yu who lost despite a high vote count also attended and kept joking.  He said that he did not expect what he said on stage, "I had a stroke but no award" to become the show's slang.  He even said, "Actually I can be with or without the award, the most important is
presenting the award to Director Ting Shan-Hsi.  Being able to present the award to him I am truly the happiest."

When Siu Tin saw Big Brother Wang Yu he joyously embraced him.  Both were bald and immediately reporters noticed their collaboration.  Siu Tin joked, "Big Brother Wang is the chief commander of us GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI).  He is responsible for training and leading us."  Big Brother Wang Yu said that earlier he went to Xian to guest star for a few days in GUILLOTINES.  He saw how hard working young Best Actor Siu Tin was and praised him as a very rare actor.  Big Brother Wang Yu suddenly recalled he co-starred in Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) and Tang Wei in WU XIA and joked, "Why wasn't I nominated for Best Actor?  If I was nominated for Best Actor and I could duel with (Andy) Lau Tak Wa, I might have won too!"  Another guest presenter Simon Yam Tat Wa asked for a glass of water and began to "toast" the team.  Brother Wa who did not drink said, "This is my 98% white wine, I have to congratulate all the winners!"

The 48th Golden Horse Awards took place last night.  With its Venice Film Festival success earlier, A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH)'s master and maid pair Andy Lau Tak Wa and Deanie Ip Tak Han won Best Actor and Actress respectively.  Director Ann Hui On Wa won Best Director.  With 11 nominations Taiwan film WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE won four awards including Best Feature Film and Best Supporting Actor to become the big winner.  With 9 nominations LET THE BULLETS FLY won two awards.

Wa Jai defeated Ge You, Eddie Peng Yu-yen, and Wang Qianyuan to win Best Actor.  He said, "Like I said, I paid to win Best Actor.  Honestly, I never imagined it.  After I saw A PIANO IN THE FACTORY I  fell in love with him (Wang Qianyuan).  After Taiwan film toughed out its most depressed period, now Hong Kong film is at its lowest.  I too hope we will be able to tough it out."  After winning the Venice Best Actress, Ip Tak Han again won the Golden Horse Best Actress.  After "sonny" Lau Tak Wa announced her victory, he went on one knee to present to present the award to Ip Tak Han.  She said, "In the film I had a stroke, now I won an award.  Thank you Hui On Wa, Lau Tak Wa for giving luck in my old age."  Before unveiling Best Actress, Wa Jai critiqued the nominees.  He joked that Qin Haliu could act, direct and was cheap so she could go to work at his company.  Eric Tsang Chi Wai joked, "I understand who at your home doesn't spent money."  Wa Jai glared at him; Wa Jai continued and said that Shu Qi was the best woman to hold and even pushed Chi Wai to give it a try; as for Michelle Chen he directly said he loved her, which made Michelle Chen so happy that she made a heart gesture with her hands.  Chi Wai's daughter Bo Yi said Chi Wai was daring but finally still did not dare to ask whether Wa Jai's wife Chu Lai Sin was pregnant.  Chi Wai only dared to ask whether Wa Jai would have a child.  Wa Jai continued to avoid the question, "Let's see the nominees!"

When Hui On Wa heard that she won Best Director she immediately hug Lau Tak Wa.  After accepting the award she joked, "I am afraid that I am about to have a stroke!  Hopefully in the future when I receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, Big Brother Wang (Jimmy Wang Yu) will present it to me."  She said that this was a very gratifying film.  She was very happy to win an award, so happy that she would have a stroke.  Later she also wanted to share this award with Roger Lee because the story was his.  She also said that she did not have a hard time with Lau Tak Wa and Ip Tak Han.  Both gave a lot of opinions and exchanged ideas, their suggestions were great.  This was the film's second award after the Venice Film Festival.  She hoped that the film will be able to win even more awards and be a bigger hit.  She also hoped to more people would make this type of movies.

Best Supporting Actor and Actress went to SEEDIQ BALE's Bokeh Kosang and RETURN TICKET's Shanghai actress Tang Qun.  Boken Kosang defeated WU XIA nominee Wang Yu to win his first Golden Horse Award.  He said that he finally could breathe a sigh of relief.  He also said that he worked very hard on this character and thus he was more confident about acting in the future.  He also said that he never thought that he would win and thanked his mother and wife.  The award was worth all the hard work.  Later when Wang Yu presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to his late friend Ting Shan-Hsi he did not forget to poke fun at himself.  "I had a stroke but I definitely won't have an award."  Speaking of her award, Tang Qun said that she was just lucky.  Although this was her first film award, it might be her last.  She will always learn from her colleagues; Carina Lau Ka Ling, Wai Ying Hung and others lost to their elder Tang Qun before still congratulated her.

Best New Performer went to YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE's Ko Chen-Tung, who not only thanked director Giddens Ko for encouraging him to play this character but also Michelle Chen for continuously teaching him.  Only because of them did he have the chance to stand on the stage.  He said, "You have made my age 20 very perfect!"  Ko Chen-Tung was so happily back stage that he jumped.  Last night he said that he would wear a pair of red underwear for luck, finally he really won.  Reporters asked him to show everyone his red underwear.  At first he said that he had to ask his company, but after reporters persuaded him he finally dropped his pants for press photos.  Giddens Ko lacked a little luck and lost the Best New Director.

Becoming the New Taiwan Goddess with YOU, Michelle Chen said that she loved Lau Tak Wa the most.  Reportedly she called Lau Tak Wa Hubby.  Last night when she and Simon Yam Tat Wa presented an award, Yam Tat Wa who was also called Wa Jai joked, "Michelle Chen actually wants to work with this Wa Jai instead."  He then held her hands and could not let go, she could only awkwardly giggle.

Although this year's venue only had a capacity of 1,000 people and has been criticized as the smallest Golden Horse venue in history, the event was still star studded and attracted a lot of press coverage.

Before the race on the red carpet, Lau Tak Wa, Vic Chou Yu Man, Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) and Peng Yu-yen all wore suits and looked very handsome.  The ladies as usual dressed up.  Vivian Hsu (Tsui Yeuk Suen) walked the red carpet with the over 50 people SEEDIQ BALE team.  Because the entire team danced the Seediq dance of joy and celebration for their entrance, she perhaps did not want to destroy the beauty and just stood in the middle dumbfounded.  Later she admitted that she did not take any wardrobe malfunction precaution because the material was bigger than her chest.  Shu Qi's long dress look was low key yet sexy.  Solo attendee Carina Lau Ka Ling appeared in a gray and black evening gown that was elegant and graceful.  Others like Angelica Lee Sinjie, Rene Liu (Lau Yeuk Ying) and Wai Ying Hung all appeared in low cut evening wear.

Japanese star Aoi Miyazaki walked with Chen Bo-Lin.  Aoi Miyazaki was very happy to be a part of this event and praised Bo-Lin as a very gentle gentleman.  The hosts were father and daughter Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Tsang Bo Yi.  Bo Yi hoped to work with her father to make the program its best.  She also said that this year was Taiwan film's take off year so she believed it definitely would be very exciting.  When Lau Tak Wa appeared with Deanie Ip Tak Han and director Ann Hui On Wa on the red carpet, fans cheered enthusiastically.  Speaking of his wife Chu Lai Sin's pregnancy rumors, Wa Jai continued to keep his mouth shut about his family, "Don't ask about family matter, don't ask about our home now."

During the opening, Chi Wai and Bo Yi both wore aboriginal costumes and school uniform for a SEEDIQ BALE and YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE nominated film medley.  Chi Wai's facial tattoo turned out to be seaweed accessories.  Bo Yi delivered YOU's classic line, 'Big idiot, you are a big idiot!"  Chi Wai said, "If I wasn't an idiot why would I have you."  Bo Yi also joked that many people wanted to asked Lau Tak Wa a question but did not dare to, but her father dared to raise his middle finger at the the Great Hall of the People so only he would dare to ask.

Wai Ying Hung two nights ago at an event still could not hide her excitement over her CHINESE GHOST STORY (SIN NUI YAU WON) Golden Horse Best Supporting Actress award.  "I am pretty nervous.  Every time I am nominated I would have hope.  I really want awards.  Actually this year has been very joyous because my film with Lam Sum Yu (Ruby Lin), BLOOD STAINED SHOES, qualified for the Golden Rooster Hundred Flower Film Festival."  Wai Ying Hung admitted that she has been very lucky with  recent years.  All the movies that she personally accepted were good.  She said, "I hope next year I will have a chance to compete for a Mainland award."  She already called Lam Sum Yu to attend.

Has she congratulated her WU XIA co-star Jimmy Wang Yu's Best Supporting Actor nomination?  Wai Ying Hung said, "I already called to congratulate him.  As soon as he returned he got an nomination, he indeed was amazing.  I am very confident that he will win, the chance is 99.9%!"

The Peter Chan Ho Sun directed WU XIA two nights ago held a premiere in Busan, Korea.  The event invited the super popular leads Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Tang Wei and director Chan Ho Sun to attend.

This was Gum Sing Mo's first Busan Film Festival.  This popular idol triggered a flock of local fans.  At a beach event over 2,000 viewers participated for a grasp of Gum Sing Mo and Tang Wei.  Korean fans were very attentive as they celebrated fellow Libras Tang Wei's October 7th birthday and Gum Sing Mo's birthday today.  They sent warm birthday wishes that made them both smiled and thanked their fans for their good will.

WU XIA yesterday held an event in Busan.  Director Peter Chan Ho Sun led leads Tang Wei and Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) in attendance.  October 7 was Tang Wei's birthday, which she said that she spent in Busan for two years in a row.  She even said that Busan cake was delicious.  She also wished Hyun Bin who is serving his military duty good health.

Tang Wei and Hyun Bin worked together on LATE AUTUMN, which she appeared at last year's Busan Film Festival for.  A reporter asked about the difference between Hyun Bin and Gum Sing Mo.  Tang Wei responded, "The difference is I can speak Chinese with Gum Sing Mo, but with Hyun Bin I can only speak inferior English for daily exchange.  The similarity is when I went to Taiwan with Gum Sing Mo, his 'old ladies' (fans) were very crazy.  When I came to Korea, Hyun Bin's fans were also very crazy.  Everyone was very attentive as we all have witnessed."  Hyun Bin and Tang Wei were linked in rumors.  What did she want to say to Hyun Bin who is currently serving his marine duty?  Tang Wei wished him good health.

The 48th Golden Horse Award announced its nominations yesterday.  CAPE NO. 7 director Wei Te-Sheng's Taiwan film SEEDIQ BALE received 13 nominations in 11 categories and was the most nominated film.  LET THE BULLETS FLY followed with 9 nominations.  With its earlier Venice Film Festival success A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) also received 6 nominations.

Andy Lau Tak Wa and Deanie Ip Tak Han both received Best Actor and Best Actress nomination.  Wa Jai will compete with JUMP! ASHIN's Eddie Peng Yu-Yan, LET THE BULLETS FLY's Ge You and THE PIANO IN A FACTORY's Wang Qianyuan; Sister Deanie's opponents will include A BEAUTIFUL LIFE's Shu Qi, YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE's Michelle Chen and THE PIANO IN A FACTORY's Qin Hailu.

Ip Tak Ha earlier won the Venice Best Actress award with A SIMPLE LIFE.  This time Sister Deanie again with this film received the Golden Horse Best Actress nomination and will even have a chance to win with Best Actor nominee Lau Tak Wa.  A SIMPLE LIFE also received six nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing.  Sister Deanie very humbly said about her nomination, "I am very happy to receive the nomination, very fortunate to be able to participate in the Golden Horse Award."  Shu Qi with A BEAUTIFUL LIFE will compete with Sister Deanie.  Shu Qi said, "I am truly very happy!  Thank you Director (Andrew) Lau Wai Keung, without him, ther would be no Shu Qi in A BEAUTIFUL LIFE.  This time the competition is rather strong, the nomination itself is already the biggest reward.  Tonight I have to celebrate."  Other Best Actress nominees included Michelle Chen and Qin Hailu.

As for Best Actor, the competition will be between A SIMPLE LIFE's Lau Tak Wa and LET THE BULLETS FLY's Ge You.  The other two nominees will be JUMP! ASHIN's Eddie Peng and THE PIANO IN A FACTORY's Qang Qianyuan.  Wa Jai said, "Thank you everyone for your support, thank you to all the workers, thank you to all the actors, thank you to the seniors, thank you very much to the Golden Horse Award."  Returning to the film industry this year, Jimmy Wang Yu with WU XIA was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.  His competition will be REVENGE A LOVE STORY (FUK SAU JEH ji SEI)'s Anthony Lau Wing, JUMP! ASHIN's Lawrence Ko Yu Lun and SEEDIQ BALE's Bokeh Kosang (Hsu Yi-Fan).

Carina Lau Ka Ling who did not have much screen time in LET THE BULLETS FLY also will compete for Best Supporting Actress.  Ka Ling said, "I am very happy!  The credit all belongs to Jiang Wen.  I have to congratulate him!  As for whether I will attend the award ceremony, it will depend on my work schedule."  Ka Ling's competition will include A CHINESE GHOST STORY (SIN NUI YAU WON)'s Wai Ying Hung, LOVE FOR LIFE's Jiang Wenli and RETURN TICKET's Tang Qun.  Jiang Wen said, "Representing  Big Brother Nine Dot I thank the Golden Horse Awards nine times in nine ways for BULLETS' nine nominations."  Best Picture nominees will include SEEDIQ BALE, LET THE BULLETS FLY, A SIMPLE LIFE, RETURN TICKET and THE PIANO IN A FACTORY.
