[2012.02.10] MIRIAM YEUNG WISHES FOR VALENTINE'S DAY SURPRISE

Shawn Yue Man Lok and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa earlier worked on Valentine's Day card photos for LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) sequel LOVE IN THE BUFF.  They had different impressions of Valentine's Day.  Chin Wa said that as long as her husband was by her side, everyday was Valentine's Day.  Lok Jai said that he would have to work on Valentine's Day so he could not sense the holiday atmosphere anyway.  On the day of the shoot they waved props around on the set.  Chin Wa had a lot of fun, but Lok Jai was very uneasy.  Lok Jai was very afraid of affecting Chin Wa's Dragon baby did not dare to make any sudden move.  Chin Wa however had a lot of fun and made a variety of poses.  Lok Jai however still kept his distance from her.

They picked up flowers for a photo and planned to create Valentine's Day atmosphere.  When Chin Wa picked up flowers she was even bashful, but Lok Jai wielded them like swords.  Would Lok Jai give flowers on Valentine's Day?  He admitted that flowers were very outdated.  He was very afraid of giving flowers.  Even when he did he would not just give random flowers.  He hoped to have a more unique way to express his love.  This year was the first Valentine's Day Chin Wa would spend with her baby.  She said that she would have to make proper arrangements that day, but her husband might surprise her.  Lok Jai said that now work came first, on Valentine's Day he would be working in the Mainland.

The 11th Chinese Film Media Award took place last night in Macau. Tang Wei with CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI) won Best Actress. Jiang Wen with LET THE BULLETS FLY won Best Actor and Best Director. Huang Xiaoming and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa both won "Consolation Prizes", "Viewers' Choice Most Eye Catching Actor and Actress". WHEN LOVE COMES won Best Picture.

Tang Wei said that with this award, she hoped to be able to run into even better characters and scripts so she could attend again next year.

Yesterday afternoon, guests like Yeung Chin Wa, Fiona Sit Hoi Kei, Tang Wei, Huang Xiaoming, Wai Ying Hung, Charlie Yeung Choi Nei, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi and Ge You appeared on the red carpet. Chin Wa with the film LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) competed for Best Actress and Most Eye Catching Actress. She thought each award was a great encouragement for artists. Both awards were very important.

Sit Hoi Kei with BREAK UP CLUB (FUN SAU SHUET OI NEI) won "Viewer's Choice Most Eye Catching Performance" award. Did Huang Xiaoming see Angelababy on this trip to Macau? Xiaoming said that if everyone wanted to know about the, they should watch their movie. Reporters said that Baby was his girlfriend, not rumored girlfriend. Xiaoming just laughed.

Ge You won the "Hundred Media Filmmaker of the Year" award. He said that he might not celebrate because he already had many events. In addition, Jordan Chan Siu Chun ran into a flood in Dunhuang while working on WHITE VENGEANCE (HUNG MOON YIN). The entire team has lost contact. Cherrie Ying Choi Yi said that she just contacted her husband Chan Siu

Already a heavenly queen in music, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa in recent years appeared at the Hong Kong Film Award mostly as a spectator. On tonight's Hong Kong Film Award, Chin Wa with the film LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) received her first Best Actress nomination and competed against Carina Lau Ka Ling, Tang Wei, Fiona Sit Hoi Kei and Josie Ho Chiu Yi. Chin Wa honestly said that she had the ambition to win she had little in real confidence. She would enjoy being able to sit next to veteran Lau Ka Ling, being nominated together she was already satisfied. Chin Wa supported the veteran. Ka Ling earlier also picked Chin Wa. Chin Wa was pleasantly surprised, "I am very scared. Did she really say that? If she praises me, I am really very happy! From the day I participate in New Talent, I would've never imagine myself sitting next to Sister Ka Ling with a nomination. That tension even without an award is already an encouragement."

Chin Wa said that at first when she learned that she was nominated for Best Actress, she indeed had strong ambitions. She made a comparison. "It's like being a singer for the first time, wouldn't you want to win the Most Popular female singer? Thus appears the mentality to prove myself. I absolutely have this ambition, but having ambition doesn't mean having confidence. The competition is truly too strong."

In the face of strong competition, Chin Wa naturally has to learn to treat winning and losing normally. Luckily she has Real Ting Chi Ko next to her. "Mr. Ting doesn't encourage me, but he often criticizes me. At first I couldn't help but ask, 'What are you doing!' Later he explained that I had to face the award normally. Since I wasn't acting much, I didn't deserved the award. He wants me to expect the worst. If I win I would be even happier, if I don't I wouldn't be disappointed. He said that was positive energy. Earlier when I read the natural disaster news, I asked him 'it's like the end of the world are we still having children?' he immediately said don't think too much. If the world truly ends, then the baby would be destined to be Neon Genesis Evangelion."

This year can be said as Chin Wa's harvest year in film. Earlier with the film PERFECT WEDDING (PO PO CHIU GAI YUN) she received the Hong Kong Film Critic Society Best Actress award. She was very happy to be recognized and had to thank all the directors who yelled at her. "I started as a singer, I learned as I worked. Patient directors would have time to teach you, some directors wouldn't expect to teach you any lesson so inevitably I got yelled at. However I have to thank them for being willing to yell at me." As for any new attempt in her future roles, she said, "I feel directors and screen writers would decide that. Why do I want this award so badly this time? One of the reasons is I hope after winning an award I would have more chances to make different types of movies, or directors would be more confident in me. Actually the most important word to actors is opportunity."

[2011.04.16] MIRIAM YEUNG RATES HER COMPETITION

Miriam Yeung Chin Wa was nominated for Best Actress for the first time. Although tomorrow the result would be revealed, Chin Wa was not nervous at all. The Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress was too far away for her.

Chin Wa said, "When I first took the romance LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU), it was purely because I liked the script. It was very close to me, I believed the audience would relate to it. I never thought what it would bring me." Chin Wa earlier won the Film Critic Society Best Actress award with PERFECT WEDDING (PO PO CHIU GAI YUN), now with LOVE she was nominated for the Hong Kong Film Award. She thought this year was a good start. "I am very appreciative. Turning from a singer to an actress, I have never studied at any training class. I had zero knowledge about acting. Luckily directors still gave me a chance. With every movie I seemed to have attended one class, step by step I explored the mystery of acting. With the Best Actress award and the Hong Kong Film Award nomination, I finally passed my transition from singing to acting and received everyone's recognition."

Chin Wa has seen all the competition films. Who did she feel was the most threatening? She said, "Comparison is very hard. Award shows aren't volleyball elimination matches, not everyone is playing volleyball. Every film genre and character is different. It's very hard to say which opponent is the most threatening. I can't play BREAK UP CLUB because I am almost 40. I can't be certain whether Sit Hoi Kei performed well or not. Although I am a local girl, I am not suitable to play Tang Wei's CROSSING HENNESSY character. I can understand this character portrayal difficulties. Sister Ka Ling played Wu Zetian in DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK), which was also difficult. It required strength and domination to be convincing, not just anyone could play it. Chiu Yi in DREAM HOME was very human, everyone did great." She instead thought LOVE IN A PUFF's Shawn Yue Man Lok and BREAK UP CLUB's Jaycee Chan (Fong Cho Ming) deserved Best Actor nominations. She said, "Lok Jai's performance was very convincing, Cho Ming's airport scene even made me cry."

Speaking of LOVE IN A PUFF, the hardest for her was smoking. Chin Wa said, "I don't smoke, but I was afraid that I was realistic enough. Before the shoot I personally experienced it at night spots many times and discovered many different expressions while smoking. I saw a girl who in the time of a cigarette met a guy, truly amazing!" She revealed that after LOVE advertisers thought her image was not good enough and she lost several campaigns. As for how much she lost, she never calculated it and never hurt over it. She said, "If I didn't make LOVE, my losses would have been much greater." She admitted that as she grew older, she felt that she should not have any baggage. She would put down her persistence and could accept different genres and characters. She felt that if she played her DUMPLING character now, she would be able to master the character.

The "laughing lady" Miriam Yeung Chin Wa in the past made mostly comedies. Earlier with the romance PERFECT WEDDING (PO PO CHIU GAI YUN) she won her first Best Actress award at the Film Critic Society. At the same time she was nominated for a Best Actress Hong Kong Film Award with LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU). The award show will take place in a week. Chin Wa honestly said that she was not nervous because her husband Real Ting Chi Ko already prepared her mentally.

Chin Wai spoke about the annual award show earlier. The Best Actress nominee was not nervous at all and she painted with light strokes throughout. She said, "I am not as nervous as I expected. My husband has already indoctrinated me with a lot of ideas, I am all calm." She pointed out that her husband would not only give her opinions on films but also on some reports. If he thought that she needed improvement he would suggest it to her.

Chin Wa pointed out that her husband said that this time she should not have much chance to win. She said, "I am OK. I am such a big girl now. I understand what he means. He hopes that I don't worry too much." Chin Wa said that it was very rare to find another half who listens and is able to give her power. Was she looking forward to it herself? She honestly said that whether with awards or something else, even record releases she would look forward to.

As for this year's competition, Chin Wa said that she has seen the other nominees' films. However she thought every film had a different subject, which was truly very hard to compare. For example Fiona Sit Hoi Kei's BREAK UP CLUB (FUN SAU SHUET OI NEI) character she would be too old to play; Sister Ka Ling (Carina Lau)'s DETECTIVE DEE (DIK YUN KIT) Wu Zetian had style and domination; (Josie Ho) Chiu Yi in DREAM HOME (WAI DOR LEI AH YUT HO) performance was thoroughly different from before; Tang Wei in CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI) had a rhythm in her performance, which was different from the academic style in her mind. She did not know where the jury lines lay but she was very confident about "Chun Giu". Since she was emotionally calm, she would not have any pressure. LOVE IN A PUFF was a film that was close to reality, some viewers thought Chin Wa was playing herself. Yet some viewers thought her performance was "natural", which instead was hard to do. Chin Wa said, "Being naturally is very hard, so I have to believe in the director's evaluation. If the audience feels I am playing myself, it is still a sense of satisfaction. However it isn't completely me. I am tougher than 'Chun Giu'."

Chin Wa said that this year she will make movies as she will not stop working deliberately to have a baby. She said, "Even if I took a year off to have a child, I still might not be able to." She honestly said that the married life gave her strength. Her husband would not interfere with her work. He would only analyze for her as a consumer and would never stop her from making intimate scenes. At most he would not watch it. Why did she not ask her husband to be his manager? She said, "No way! He would be waiting to get fired. We can't work together, it would harm our relationship."

Hong Kong Society of Cinematographers two nights ago held its annual banquet and presented the most attractive male and female lead awards to Huang Xiaoming and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa. They received their awards from the Society of Cinematographers permanent honorary president Arthur Wong Ngok Tai. Current president Andrew Lau Wai Keung said that Chin Wa won because the enormous breakthrough of her LOVE IN THE PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) performance. As for Huang Xiaoming, after viewing his countless Mainland work his attraction did not need much introduction.

Chin Wa joked that her face was so large but cinematographers still made her look pretty, which she was truly very happy about. She was very comforted and pleased to win this award. Chin Wa pointed out that she was already heading to 40, but this award gave her a lot of confidence. Which star did she feel was the most attractive? She said many. She felt that not only looks but what was inside was very important, like Lau Ching Wan, Chow Yun Fat, and Tony Leung Chiu Wai. She said, "I am very appreciative, I have made every movie with a handsome guy. Standing next to them I have looked prettier." Chin Wa said that recently she has been searching for what to dress to the Hong Kong Film Award. She joked that her figure was not too 3D. Last time at her concert she already showed a lot but no one thought so. She said, "I have career lines all over me, just not in the middle."

Huang Xiaoming was very surprised to win the award and thanked the professional jury. Because of their discovery and creation of beauty he won the award. He would like the chance to work with them. When asked what was the most attractive about him, he awkwardly said, "I really don't know, maybe it's better to ask the jury."

Josie Ho Chiu Yi with DREAM HOME received a Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress nomination. She was at father Stanley Ho Hung Sun's home when she received the news. She immediately gave the good news to Mr. Ho and told her old man "I did it". The Gambling King although had lawsuits with his second and third families, he was still very happy for his daughter. He even said to Chiu Yi, "I really want to see you succeed." Mr. Ho even encouraged Chiu Yi to continue to work hard on her acting and make good movies.

Chiu Yi also thanked her father, sister and family for their trust, for this film to be able to be completed. Chiu Yi pointed out that this film earlier participated in many European film festivals, received nominations and won awards, but she was the happiest about receiving the
nomination in Hong Kong because this was a good Hong Kong film. Was she confident about winning? Chiu Yi said at first she knew the competition would be very strong, but earlier she won Best Actress and special effect awards in Spain. Now her confidence was stronger. Chiu Yi said that she would like to thank the director the most. Each team of this fil was hand picked, but they needed a director to lead them in order to be able to show their new side.

Carina Lau Ka Ling in DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK) did not have a large role but she received a Best Actress nomination. Ka Ling said, "Don't scare me like this?" Ka Ling said that she was very happy about the nomination because this production was very tough. This character's look was unique, the head dress was very heavy. During the shoot she constantly had to rest. The nomination was worth all the hardship. As for confidence, she said that she already treated the nomination as a victory. She was also happy for the film's 13 nominations.

Tang Wei was nominated with CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI). She was promoting LATE AUTUMN in Korea. When she received the news she was surprised. She thanked the award and the jury, director Ivy Ho (Ong Sai) and Jacky Cheung Hok Yau. If she would not have to work she would take time to attend. Miriam Yeung Chin Wa with LOVE IN A PUFF (CHI MING YU CHUN GIU) was nominated. Chin Wa said that she was very happy. She liked this film very movie, this nomination brought her a lot of encouragement and confidence. She would put more effort into the sequel this year. As for confidence, Chin Wa honestly said that she of course would like to win. "It's Best Actress, but on my film career I still need a lot of time to learn. I am already very happy with the nomination. With the strong competition, I am already very satisfied with the "nomination" admission ticket. I would happily attend the event and wouldn't think too much."

Currently working in Beijing, Fiona Sit Hoi Kei screamed when she learned about her BREAK UP CLUB (FUN SAU SHUET OI NEI) nomination. This time she was very happy about her first Best Actress nomination. She said that the competition was very strong, but whether she would win or lose she would thank Jaycee Chan (Fong Cho Ming), Barbara Wong Chun Chun and Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui. East Asia Entertainment artists wish everyone a Happy New Year! Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Denise Ho Wan Si, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Wilfred Lau Ho Lung, Bong Nam Yik Bong, William So Wing Hong and new comer Sean Pang Wing Sum dressed up for the holiday photo. With two dancing lions as they wrote banners together, the holiday spirit was in the air. "Chi Ming" Yue Man Lok and "Chun Giu" Yeung Chin Wa greeted each other with mischievous banner and filled the scene with laughter.

Chin Wa and Lok Jai last year worked on LOVE IN A PUFF (CHI MING YU CHUN GIU) became a good on screen couple. This year they will work together again on the sequel CHUN GIU YU CHI MING. On the day of the shoot they exchanged banners. Lok Jai gave Chin Wa a banner that said "100% accuracy". "Mrs. Ting" Chin Wa cracked up and jokingly yelled at Ah Lok, "Do you think my husband is the king of sharpshooters?" Then she returned the favor with "beauty falling out of the sky" for Lok Jai.

The Hong Kong Film Critic Society yesterday announced the 2010 Hong Kong Film Critic Society Award winners. With two nominated films Miriam Yeung Chin Wa with PERFECT WEDDING (PO PO CHIU GAI YUN) defeated Tang Wei and Kwai Lun-Mei to win her first Best Actress. Teddy Robin Kwan with GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) defeated Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Simon Yam Tat Wa and Chapman To Man Jat to win Best Actor. GALLANTS also won Best Picture.

Yesterday the Hong Kong Film Critic Society announced its award winners. This year's results after eight hours of discussions and three rounds of voting were chosen. Yeung Chin Wa was nominated with LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) and PERFECT WEDDING and finally won with PERFECT. Chin Wa as the city woman was full of rhythm and at the same time had her own style, thus she won. Chin Wa was very happy about winning Best Actress and felt that it was lucky. She said that before taking every role she never thought about winning. She only thought about playing the role well. This award truly was a very pleasant surprise.

Chin Wa said that everyone has only recognized her singer identity. This time recognized as an actress she truly was very excited. She hoped in the future more directors would give her the chance to try even more different characters. She definitely would work hard. Chin Wa also said that when she learned that she won the Best Actress, she suddenly remembered the title of Lau Ching Wan's film MY NAME IS FAME (NGOR YIU SING MING). Actually when someone seriously worked hard and persisted to the end she would finally be recognized. She also pointed out that film was a group project that required the hard work of many. She thanked Ms. Elaine Lok Yi Ling, Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui and Barbara Wong Chun Chun for giving her such a great script. This script went very in depth with the emotional upheaval of a 30 year old woman. Chin Wa said that her favorite scene with the chat with Teresa Mo Shun Kwan at the
spa, which was able to speak for a group of career women. She also liked her relationship with Eric Kot Man Fai in the film. She said, "Maybe she too had experience in handling exes, ha ha......I know that painful feeling and emotion so I was able to be more at ease with the
performance."

Best Actor went to GALLANTS' Teddy Robin Kwan, who won because his character was not mainstream. Yet in the second half of the story he had quite a presence. His body language and voice were full of a grand master style, as he successfully defeated LA COMEDIE HUMAINE (YUN GAN HEI KET)'s To Man Jat, STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN)'s Cheung Ka Fai and ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW (SHUI YUET SUN TAU)'s Yam Tat Wa.

Lau Tak Wa's release GALLANTS also won Best Picture. Best Director went to REIGN OF ASSASSINS (GIM YU)'s Su Chao-Bin. Ivy Ho (Ong Sai) with CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI) won Best Screenplay. In addition, this year's seven recommended films were REIGN OF ASSASSINS, STOOL PIGEON, BREAKING THE WILLOW (FUNG GUOON CHING SI), LA COMEDIE HUMAINE, LIKE DREAM (YU MUNG), LOVE IN A PUFF and CROSSING HENNESSY. The award ceremony will take place on February 22 at the Hong Kong Film Archive.

The Federation of Motion Film Producers of Hong Kong yesterday announced films that will represent Hong Kong in the 54th Asia Pacific Film Festival in Taiwan in December. Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Dante Lam Chiu Yin, Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting, Alex Law Kai Yui, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa yesterday received the news and all were happy.

The 54th Asia Pacific Film Festival will take place in Taiwan between December 2 and 5. The Federation of Motion Film Producers of Hong Kong after a board voting selected six films to represent Hong Kong in competition. Lam Chiu Yin's new film THE STOOL PIGEON just opened in Hong Kong Thursday. Yesterday it received the Asia Pacific Film Festival good news.

Winning the Asian Pacific Film Festival Best Actor last year with THE BEAST STALKER (JING YUN), Nick Cheung Ka Fai honestly said that he would like a repeat. Cheung Ka Fai did not reveal any confidence in winning, but instead felt that this nomination could increase Hong Kong
film morale. "I am very happy that the film has already qualified for the Asia Pacific Film Festival before its official release. It reflects that while filmmaking in Hong Kong is getting harder and harder, the representative quality is also higher and higher."

Director Lam Chiu Yin also excitedly stated, "I have instantly reported the good news to the producer and the team. I thank the jury to still be able to see 'Lam Chiu Yin' the director under numerous commercial masking disguises, I hope every actor will be able to receive
recognition."

ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW's Cheung Yuen Ting and Law Kai Yui happily said, "Last time when it won the Crystal Bear prize we already wanted to attend with (Sandra Ng) Kwan Yu, but last time we couldn't get together. Hopefully this time we will be able to attend the Asia Pacific Film Festival altogether, but Kwan Yu, Brother Wa and (Araif) Lee Chi Ting are very busy. After the shoot our relationships have been great. When we have the chance we would like to meet for dinner."

LOVE IN A PUFF's "Ji Ming" Ah Lok yesterday thanked everyone for supporting films with Hong Kong specialty. He stated that he was trying to schedule in the film festival. "Chun Giu" Chin Wa said that it was worth learning to smoke for the movie.
