[2011.11.06] ZHANG ZIYI IS HONORED IN ROME

courtesy of takungpao.com

Zhang Ziyi with the film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) won the sixth Rome Film Festival award for elegance and temperament and broke the streak of the award going to Italian actresses.  With the award in hand Zhang Ziyi said  with a smile, "This trip to Rome has been like an Italian feast, the award is like a bottle of champagne that was saved for our final celebration."

The film festival presented this award to Zhang Ziyi mainly for the numerous bright spots that she created in her art life.  The committee said, "She mixes strong performance abilities with harmony and elegant grace, all of which have been thoroughly on display in movies like CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, HERO, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, MEMOIR OF A GEISHA and LOVE FOR LIFE.   No one is more deserving of this award for elegance and temperament than her."  Dressed in pink Zhang Ziyi first greeted everyone in Chinese then said in English, "First I would like to thank the Rome Film Festival for giving me this honor.  Film to me is everything.  Since age 17 film has occupied my life.  Such an encouragements very important to actors."  She also did not forget to emotionally thank director Gu Changwei.

Zhang Ziyi humorously said with the award when asked about being the first Chinese actress to win this Rome Film Festival award, "This trip to Rome has been like a rich Italian feast, the award is like a bottle of champagne that was saved for our final celebration."  She also said that she was very relaxed on this trip to Rome.  "I hope this small budget film would get more recognition.  If through the influence of this film festival even more people can experience the feelings that the film delivers, this is my greatest wish."  Gu Changwei also said that she already received a lot from this production, so this trip was more relaxing.  He said, "Through this film, Ziyi again returned to the sight of European viewers, which pleases me very much.  Making a movie is like putting together a party.  LOVE FOR LIFE has so many excellent actors, everyone performed so outstandingly.  Everyone because of the film have a period of time that they spent 'together', which was enough.  I have to thank everyone."

We not only made a movie but also a documentary about how the patients lived with us." Sing Sing said that during the shoot he constantly played with an child with AIDS, but he would not be infected.

Why was lead actor Zhang Ziyi absent? He said that she was promoting in Singapore. He said, "Actually it's no big deal. This time we have nine promotional stops, I am only going to three. The film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI)'s director Gu Changwei invited 3 director friends Jiang Wen, Lu Chuan and Feng Xiaogang to guest star. In one scene Feng Xiaogang held the traffic baton and yelled, full of express and comedic senses. Gu Changwei praised his acting as extraordinary and even promised to return the favor with the right script. However because the film had to be cut down, Gu Changwei helplessly cut away Feng Xiaogang's role. Feng Xiaogang was not angry. Aaron Kwok Fu Sing recently has been promoting the film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) with Zhang Ziyi and director Gu Changwei. In order to coordinate with the film's multiple angle promotion, Gu Changwei asked Sing Sing to write a theme song. From Sing Sing's 20th anniversary record the song, ALWAYS BEEN HERE was selected to become the film theme song.

Gu Changwei suggested for Sing Sing and Zhang Ziyi to sing it as a duet to strengthen this "terminal romance" sense of beauty in the film. He also asked song writer Peter Kam Pui Tat to produce the song in Hong Kong. Kam Put Tat said that the duo's first collaboration was unusually in tune. Sing Sing was also very happy about singing for the first time with Zhang Ziyi, the feeling was very fresh. Sing Sing said, "Ziyi although was not a singer, her voice was very soft. She knew how to use her emotional voice, very quickly she got into song recording condition. We worked together and completed the recording in one night." Sing Sing said that Ziyi was a good singer with a lot of potential, like working on a movie with her she was very focused. Ziyi also was very happy to sing the theme song with Sing Sing and said that one of the verses from the song was her favorite. "This deepest of love, never walks away, promise to always be here, love me!" They both said that this was a very pleasant collaboration experience.

courtesy of singtao.com

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Zhang Ziyi have been continuously promoting their film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) in the Mainland. After Beijing, Chengdu and Shenzhen, two days ago on Mother's Day they went to Shanghai premiere press conference. Zhang Ziyi even revealed that in the scene in which she went naked into cold water to cool down she did not use a double. She honestly said that during the shoot she had no hesitation at all. She thought that this scene was worth her doing anything for. "If this happened to me personally I would do that too. It has no connection to sex and love, this scene is worth me doing anything for."

In addition, the film was cut from 150 minutes to 100 minutes. Director Gu Changwei admitted that he took the initiative to cut down to the current version as guest stars Jiang Wen, Lu Chuan and Feng Xiaogang did not appear in the actual film. He honestly said that one of the reason was this length was very popular with cinemas. He also said that he regretted the most about cutting many of Pu Cunxin's scenes. After promoting in Shanghai, Zhang Ziyi and Sing Sing returned to Beijing for a Beijing Satellite premiere ceremony special program taping. Sing Sing and Ziyi appeared with buckteeth look.

Director Gu Changwei two nights ago led leads Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Zhang Ziyi to a Shenzhen cinema to show their appreciation to viewers of their film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI). Earlier Zhang Ziyi broke down three times when she received the support of enthusiastic fans and handicapable students. This time during the event when she talked about her life during the production she was again teary eyed. She said, "13 years ago I was only 19, when I made THE ROAD HOME I played an innocent girl; now I am 32, I have more life experience and some understanding about love, I would inject life into the fate of the film character." As for memories of the production, Kwok Fu Sing said with less than fluent Putonghua, "During the shoot I experience chilling winter and scorching summer, I truly sensed the farm village's 'anger' (energy)!" Zhang Ziyi cracked up and whispered to him to correct his Putonghua pronunciation.

[2011.04.26] NEW FILM SAVES ZHANG ZIYI

courtesy of takungpao.com

The film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI)'s sister film, the anti AIDS discrimination documentary, TOGETHER, held a global online premiere earlier. TOGETHER and LOVE FOR LIFE director Gu Changwei and stars Zhang Ziyi and Jiang Wenli attended the press conference. The AIDS patients who bravely performed in TOGETHER also attended.

Speaking of LOVE FOR LIFE, Zhang Ziyi pointed out that the character saved her as the film was very meaningful to her. She said, "The director gave me a window and let this character save me." Ziyi said that she had too many emotions that she had no way to express, but this character struggled along with her, faced the complicated conflicts of life and gave her another life. She said, "This was no ordinary character."

In TOGETHER, the filmmakers had a lot of close contact with AIDS patients. Zhang Ziyi even brought her visiting niece to play games with a boy with AIDS, filling the documentary with warmth. Zhang Ziyi said that this group brought her a lot of feelings. She was very touched to see how strong they were. They also brought her a lot of joy like friends. Ziyi also urged the community to be like their team and accept people with AIDS.

In addition, Feng Xiaogang, Jiang Wen and Lu Chuen guest starred in LOVE FOR LIFE. Which asked which director performed the best, Ziyi said that nothing needed to be said about Jiang Wen. His foul mouth train operator was very exciting. To her, Gu Changwei gave Xiaogang a particularly rare character to play. The performance was rare but was finally cut, which truly was regrettable.

[2011.03.23] AARON KWOK: WHILE ALIVE FIND THE MOST BELOVED AND GET MARRIED

Yesterday Aaron Kwok Fu Sing along with Zhang Ziyi, AIDS child actor Hu Zetao and director Gu Changwei attended their new film LOVE FOR LIFE press conference at the Convention Center. Sing Sing stated that he was busy in Beijing with his new film LOVE IN SPACE (CHUEN KAU YIT LUEN). After the event he had to rush back to the production. He regretted that he was unable to show the child actor around on his first visit to Hong Kong.

Would Sing Sing return to Hong Kong to attend show business' recording and later fund raising show for Japan disaster relief? He said, "I definitely can't for the recording (24th), I won't have time until the 27th to return and be Cheung Chi Lam's concert guest. As for the disaster relief show it would depend on my work schedule. As a part of the show business, I of course would like to do something to help friends in Japan."

In addition, in LOVE FOR LIFE he and Zhang Ziyi played a tragic couple with AIDS. Speaking of the film's "Let's get married! While we are still alive!" theme, has Sing Sing changed his mind about marriage? He only said, "Everyone feel I am still a big kid, I too have thought about whether I am suitable for marriage? You can't predict natural disaster, should I find my most beloved and get married while I am still alive? I have thought about all that. (Haven't you already found your most beloved Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam)?) If one day I get married then everyone would know the answer."

Also, yesterday when the media arrived at the scheduled time, the event public relations kept the media from entering with "Zhang Ziyi has to enter the venue first before the media are permitted to enter". During Zhang Ziyi's interview, security suddenly pushed back the media and asked the media to interview Zhang Ziyi at a distance. The event public relations had to intervene. Reporters asked whether Zhang Ziyi was unwilling to do interviews. Zhang Ziyi said with surprise, "Huh? I don't know anything, I don't know why this type of thing always happens to me." Her manager explained, "This was the event's arrangement, unrelated to us." As for getting back together with Fok Kai San, Zhang Ziyi explained that the media took it out of context. They were just good friends.

Zhang Ziyi was worried about being misunderstood as being arrogant, through the manager she responded that she was helpless. She said that she has always been happy and hoped to share her work and experience with the media. She felt very helpless about the event public relations spreading the incorrect message to keep the media from entering the venue early. She hoped that everyone would be able to understand that she absolutely was willing to share the result of every job with the media.

The World AIDS Day promotion and anti AIDS discrimination documentary TOGETHER two nights ago held its premiere at the Beijing Foreign Language University. Director Gu Changwei led the documentary creators and LIFE IS A MIRACLE (MOR SHOOK OI JUEN) leads Zhang Ziyi, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Jiang Wenli, Pu Cunxin and others in attendance to urge the community to oppose AIDS patient discrimination.

Jiang Wenli revealed that as early as 2004 she thought about making about film or television product about AIDS. Later with the Health Department's and Gu Changwei's help the film LIFE IS A MIRACLE and the documentary TOGETHER were born. This time six AIDS patients played certain roles in the film or worked as a regular worker. The team even documented how three patients worked with him and their lives. They also interviewed many AIDS patients who were unwilling to show their faces. Through chats or hidden identity they discussed how they caught the disease and their life conditions. As the character in the film said, "No matter how he got sick, people with AIDS actually are all innocent." They needed people's concern and not discrimination.

Three patients who bravely appeared on camera two nights ago also appeared in person and shared the film and documentary production experience. Old Xiao worked as a lighting double. The only 12 year old Taotao played a key figure in LIFE IS A MIRACLE. Gu Changwei, Zhang Ziyi, Kwok Fu Sing and others hug and shook hands with them. Playing an AIDS couple with Sing Sing in LIFE, Zhang Ziyi was asked whether she was afraid. Zhang Ziyi honestly said, "Of course I am not worried. During the shoot we are all actors and workers. When we are with the patients we no longer have you and I. Hopefully this documentary will be able to urge everyone to care about them."

[2010.09.09] JIANG WENLI GETS DIRTY TO SUPPORT HER HUSBAND

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Gu Changwei directed, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Zhang Ziyi starred LIFE IS A MIRACLE (MOR SHOOK OI JUEN) also had in its cast Jiang Wenli, Pu Cunxin, Tao Zeru and other stars. Pu Cunxin and Jiang Wenli's costumes were unveiled yesterday. Playing Zhuge Liang in the film THREE KINGDOMS THE RESURRECTION OF THE DRAGON (SAM GOK ji GEIN LUNG SEH GAP), Pu Cunxin for years appeared in a positive image. This time was his first villain role. Jiang Wenli in support of her husband's new film again sacrificed her image to play a tough village woman.

In the new film, Pu Cunxin in order to get rich became the illegal "blood head" and organized underground blood sale. In turn many in the village ended up with AIDS. To play this black hearted merchant, he had to wear buck teeth, slicked back his hair and looked like an overnight
success, a completely turn around from the righteous image that he has always maintained. Jiang Wenli in support of her husband's career made another sacrifice. In the still her clothes was dirty, her hair was a mess, her tough village woman with a broom image again was a total
opposite from herself.

The Gu Changwei directed film LIFE IS A MIRACLE (MOR SHOOK OI JUEN) released a series of stills from the set. On and off camera Zhang Ziyi returned to form like an ordinary girl next door. During the shoot, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Zhang Ziyi got along very well and had great chemistry.

Because the location was in the country, they did not have any entertainment around either. In such a closed off environment Zhang Ziyi seemed to have forgotten everything and returned to her childlike innocence. She was very interested in all the details around her, even taking a long time to observe a bug. The professional work and the happy life made Zhang Ziyi take off her international star halo and appeared to be even more friendly. Kwok Fu Sing also followed suit, as soon as he joined the team he removed his superstar halo and became a part of the team.

In the film Zhang Ziyi originally was the wife of Kwok Fu Sing's cousin. They got together after becoming terminally ill and abandoning their own families. They then began to life and death romance.
