[2011.10.28] GUILLOTINES UNVEIL COSTUMES

courtesy of singtao.com
courtesy of takungpao.com

The Peter Chan Ho Sun produced, Andrew Lau Wai Keung directed film THE GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI) has already begun production.  Each actor's costume look appeared for the first time.  Captain Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) was responsible for "cold", the only "female Guillotine" Chris Lee Yuchun was responsible for "real", Jing Boran was responsible was "handsome", Purba Rgyal (Pubajia) was responsible for "vicious", Zhou Yiwei "grinned like a cat with a canary" and was responsible for "shady" but the weapon Flying Guillotine was nowhere to be seen.

The Guillotine uniform was in classic red and black, the left arm was made with steel, wrapped up from the shoulder to the fist and leather underneath it resembled a cannon.  With 230 steel rings and 168 steel plates, it weighted 10 catties.  Yuen King Tin posed in the uniform.  After putting on the metal arm he even joked that he was Iron Man.  The uniform was designed with the right arm for the weapon and the left hand for the metal arm, but Siu Tin was left armed so he had to train his right arm strength.  Lau Wai Keung after finding out thought the lefty would be very cool and designed a "lefty" metal arm for him.

Lee Yuchun after BOYDGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING) worked with Chan Ho Sun again.  The first thing Chan Ho Sun said when he saw Lee Yuchun was, "How can you grow younger and younger?  You look like you are only 16."  This time Lee Yuchun had to cut her hair short.  In order to ensure that her hair would be comfortable and steady, she spent three hours on hair the first time.  Aside from shaving their heads, male Guillotines also had to grow facial hair.  Yuen King Tin, Zhou Yiwei, Purba Rgyal were happy about saving shaving time.  Only Jing Boran due to his red lips and white teeth did not have to grow facial hair.

[2011.04.27] PETER CHAN SAYS PRODUCTION DELAY IS DUE TO SCRIPT CHANGES

courtesy of takungpao.com

Rumors about the Peter Chan Ho Sun produced new film THE FLYING GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI) have surfaced, including the screenplay has not been approved, disputes between producer Chan Ho Sun and director Teddy Chan Tak Shun, director change with Andrew Lau Wai Keung, the production start delay to August and even possibly cast changes. Chan Ho Sun yesterday personally clarified and one of the lead actors Huang Xiaoming also gave Chan Ho Sun a vote of confidence. Even if the film was postponed, he was willing to keep waiting.

Chan Ho Sun said that the film indeed will delay its production start. As for director change, he also admitted that earlier before planning THE FLYING GUILLOTINES he indeed approached Lau Wai Keung. He said, "For collaborations I of course pick my closest friends, since we know each other so well. However at the time Lau Wai Keung had ten movies on hand, and Chan Tak Sum's schedule was the most suitable to the original production start time. Now that the production start has been postponed, and the main reason is we suddenly thought of an all new script direction. All the changes will depend on the progress of the script. Actor schedules may have to be arranged anew, but a good story truly doesn't have to worry about having no one."

Chan Tak Sum said, "The main reason is the script is still being changed. With all new elements, it is even more exciting than before. The screen writer (Aubrey) Lam Oi Wa has been working night and day, but ultimately the structural adjustments will require some time. Honestly, I am a little worried about the scheduling. With so many actor schedules having to change, the team's schedule is even harder to adjust. However I hope that we keep each other in mind in the end." Huang Xiaoming continued his support. "I haven't received any team change news, only a notice that filming has been postponed. I only have the word 'trust' in Director Chan Ho Sun."

As for the script's pending approval, promotional director Ms. Meng denied and said, "Our new script hasn't even been written yet, so it hasn't been sent for inspection. How can it not pass?" As for the dispute between Chan Ho Sun and Chan Tak Sum, Ms. Meng said, "Since the start of BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING) they have been rumored to be at odds, after its completion they were rumored to be at odds again. During the Hong Kong Film Award celebration people still talked about it. As they worked together, they kept being rumored to be at odds. If they really were at odds, why would Chan Ho Sun ask Chan Tak Sum to make THE FLYING GUILLOTINES? Wouldn't he just be asking for trouble? Chan Tak Sum two days ago was still talking with Chan Ho Sun about the new script."

[2011.02.12] ETHAN JUAN TURNS DOWN STEPHEN CHOW AND TSUI HARK FOR FLYING GUILLOTINES

courtesy of singtao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Peter Chan Ho Sun produced, Teddy Chan Tak Sum directed and the BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING) team created new film FLYING GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI) made its first appearance at the Berlin Film Festival. FLYING GUILLOTINES was an end of Qing Dynasty/early Republic hidden weapon, the name of which sent chills down people's spines in the novels. In the 70s Shaw already made two films on the subject.

Chan Ho Sun and Chan Tak Sun team up again after BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS. According to the martial art film Chan Tak Sum revealed that the FLYING GUILLOTINES design would be "the most intimidating hidden weapon in Chinese film history". From the structure, FLYING GUILLOTINES indeed somewhat resembled BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS as it would be about a group of a young SWAT team that fought for justice and their beliefs. Ethan Juan (Yuen Siu Tin) caught both Chan Ho Sun and Chan Tak Sum's eyes. Siu Tin for this film turned down movies with Tsui Hark and Stephen Chow Sing Chi in order to fully prepare. In addition, Huang Xiaoming who Chan Ho Sun called "the face of Asia" could not make BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS due to scheduling conflict finally was able to work with two famous directors, which was also a wish come true.

Nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Golden Horse Award with BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING), Nicholas Tse Ting Fung did not win and was absent from the celebration. Yet BODYGUARDS director Teddy Chan Tak Sum attended. He thought that despite only winning the Best Makeup & Costume Design award, he thought that the 9 nominations were already enough.

Chan Tak Sum said, "Awards are hard to say, it's not like you want it you get it. (Was Ting Fung nervous?) Like me it was nothing special, although we won just one award, the support of so many friends already made me very happy. (Did you console Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung?) We were both nominated but didn't win, film is for the audience and work, how can we have both."

The 47th Golden Horse Award took place last night. At 6PM guests and artists gradually arrived on the red carpet. Although this year many female stars were present, they all dressed conservatively and the hunks Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung stole their thunder. MONGA Best Actor nominee Yuen King Tin wore a black tuxedo and arrived with MONGA producer Lee Lieh and composer Sandee Chen. Siu Tin's appearance immediately led to cheers. How did Siu Tin feel about his chances against three experienced actors in competition? He said, "I don't have any pressure. When I should be nervous, I was already nervous during the shoot. I am at peace." The other hunk Tse Ting Fung arrived with the BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS team. Ting Fung wore a suit and sunglasses, with his hands in his pant pockets he appeared in his usual unconventional manner. Cheer immediately arose. When guest performers Alan Tam Wing Lun and Mr. arrived, fans immediately raised light boards to support Alan. Guest presenters Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Jam Hsiao (Siu King Tung) appeared together. His son Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, daughter Tsang Bo Yi followed tightly. Tony Leung Ka Fai and Wai Ying Hung walked the red carpet hand in hand. Siu Hung wore a purple evening gown.

Most female artists were dressed conservatively. Singing a duet with Alan, Elva Hsiao (Siu Ah Hin) appeared in a low cut black dress and looked like a mermaid. She even shook hands with fans. Vivian Hsu (Tsui Yeuk Suen) wore a low cut almond v neck evening gown. Then the film
JULIETS team arrived. Li Bingbing and Nick Cheung Ka Fai arrived. Bingbing wore sequenced light blue evening gown and looked elegant. Lin Chiling arrived in a black evening gown but was conservative. First time Golden Horse hostess Dee Hsu wore a single strap white evening gown and arrived with host Kevin Tsai Kang-Yung, who wore a birdcage on the head. Other guests included Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Siu Tin's girlfriend Tiffany Hsu, Lam Ka Tung and others. Jackie Chan, Ang Lee, and Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga) closed the red carpet ceremony.

The 47th Taiwan Golden Horse Award tonight will take place in Taoyuan. Ethan Juan (Yuen Siu Tin) with MONGA received his first Best Actor nomination. Last night Siu Tin dressed up for the pre race party and appeared with Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Teddy Chan Tak Sum and
others. Facing strong competition, Siu Tin humbly said, "I am not nervous at all, tomorrow I will be relaxed as well. The nomination is already very good. Because I have never participated before, I just found out that the nomination had a certificate. It's like everyone gets a prize."

When asked whether he will walk the red carpet with his girlfriend Tiffany Hsu, he siad, "Tomorrow night my female companion will be my boss!"

Because both Wang Xueqi and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung were busy with work, only director Chan Tak Sum represented BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING) last night. He was very confident about Wang Xueqi's chances. "He made the entire film much more lively. Teacher Wang said that he would try to make time and come."

According to news from Taiwan, with 9 nominations BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS ran into two strong Taiwan films SEVEN DAYS IN HEAVEN and WHEN LOVE COMES and might not win Best Picture and Best Director. However lead actor Wang Xueqi and supporting actor Tse Ting Fung remained favorites. Best Supporting Actress would be between Zhang Jingchu and SEVEN DAYS IN HEAVEN's Cheung Si-Yin.

The local director Chang Tso-chi directed WHEN LOVE COMES received 14 nominations, the Teddy Chan Tak Sum directed BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS tightly followed with 9 nominations. Ethan Ruan (Yuen King Tin) starred
MONGA also received six nominations. Siu Tin also received his first Best Actor nomination. He felt very happy that his acting was recognized and only regretted that the film did not receive a Best Director nomination. Taiwan director Chang Tso-chi directed WHEN LOVE COMES has been nominated for Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best New Performer and other awards and tied the HOLLYWOOD HONG KONG nomination record. The Chan Tak Sum directed BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS also performed outstandingly with Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actor and other nominations. Nicholas Tse Ting Fung even received a Best Supporting Actor nomination. He won in the same category at the Hong Kong Film Award, but he remained calm, cool and
collected. Emperor stated that it would try to make time for him to attend.

The Taiwan director Doze Niu Chen-Zer's MONGA did not received Best Feature Film or Best Director nominations. However he and producer Lee Lieh both have been nominated for Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year along with one of SEVEN DAYS IN HEAVEN director Essay Liu. As for Best Actor nominee Siu Tin felt very happy and only regretted that
director Niu Chen-Zer was not nominated for Best Director. However he has talked with the director over the phone and felt that everyone have worked hard for the film. One of Siu Tin's opponents would be BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS' Wang Xueqi, who Siu Tin honestly said he liked. Thus he was very happy to be nominated with him. If he truly won he won it for the
film. However he did not feel any pressure because he understood that it was beyond his control. He also said that at first when he switched from modeling to acting he thought about quitting, he never expected to be finally recognized now.

AFTERSHOCK received three nominations. Aside from Best Visual Effects, actresses Xu Fan and Zhang Jingchu received Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress nomination respectively. Investor Media Asia was very happy and thought that Xu Fan and Zhang Jingchu deserved the

[2010.08.30] LOUIS KOO IS INJURED TWICE IN TEN DAYS

courtesy of takungpao.com

The 10th China Changchun Film Festival closing ceremony and
award show took place two nights ago as the event presented 13 awards,
dual Best Actors and Best Actresses. THE BEAST STALKER (JING YUN)'s Nick
Cheung Ka Fai, BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING)'s Wang Xueqi
both won Best Actor; AT THE END OF DAYBREAK (SUM MOR)'s Wai Ying Hung and
MULAN's Vicki Zhao Wei both won Best Actress.

Liu Yifei two nights ago appeared with the new A CHINESE GHOST STORY (SIN YUN YAU WON) team at the award show. The team even held a press conference. She, director Wilson Yip Wai Shun, Yu Shaoqun, Wai Ying Hung and Louis Fan Siu Wong attended. "Yin Chet Hup" Louis Koo Tin Lok due to another injury was absent. That night Yip Wai Shun and cinematographer Arthur Wong Ngok Tai won Best Director and Best Cinematography, while the tree demon Siu Hung won Best Actress. They were well worth the 3 day production halt for the 300 people team.

According to Yip Wai Shun, the film has already completed all the shooting in the temple and most important scenes have been shot. The film will wrap in Shanghai in September and be locked in for a May Day release. Yu Shaoqun revealed that he will play a hero who saves a damsel in distress. Speaking of Koo Tin Lok's "stealing his love away", he joked, "Changchun truly is my lucky place. This time finally I don't have to fight with Koo Tin Lok. Of course I wish Big Brother Koo Tin Lok to get well soon and continue to fight with me to be this 'Little Three'." Reportedly the new version will turn the old version upside down and start all over, from an all new perspective it will look at and tell a romantic love story.

Koo Tin Lok on the eve of the award show injured his right leg during an action scene. Although after hospital examination his condition was not excessively severe, his right leg lost sensation once. To keep from impacting production progress, he still insisted on continuing the shoot. The film had many action scenes that were highly difficult, but Goo Jai insisted on personally performing many highly difficult stunt and against using a double. Thus he was injured twice in ten days.

In addition, Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam who attended her first Changchun Film Festival presented the Best Supporting Actress award. She praised Changchun's great air quality that felt very comfortable. She even turned into a fan and took pictures with elders. When Ka Fai and Siu Hung were announced to be the winners, she cheered excitedly for them. At the celebration, she did not forget to shake their hands to congratulate them and joked that she would like some of their luck to rub off on her. Next week she, Rainie Yang (Yeung Sing Lam) and Pang Shun will head to the Venice Film Festival for their 3D film CHILD'S EYE promotion.

[2009.06.01] ZHOU YUN JOINS BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS

The New Year film BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING) has already completed half its shoot in Shanghai. After the appearance of Fan Bingbing and Li Yuchun, the film's other female lead, Zhou Yun, who in the film grew up with Nicholas Tse Ting Fung joined the cast quietly on the eve of June 1 Children's Day. Since both Tse Ting Fung and Zhou Yun are parents, although they met for the first time the topic of children brought them closer and very quickly put them into the film's "lover" condition.

Zhou Yun who was busy slimming down after giving birth was absent from the film's earlier press conference, but director Teddy Chan Tak Sum expressed, "Zhou Yun was our first confirmed actress." As early as eight years ago, Chan Tak Sum has wanted to work with Zhou Yun on a new film; after several misses they could not work together successfully. This time he approached Zhou Yun again but learned that she just gave birth to her second son. He thought that he would have to be sorry again. Then Zhou Yun read the script and was very attracted to the character. She immediately decided to train for this "eight year long appointment" and rapidly slimmed down.

Ting Fung and Zhou Yun on the set talked about their children. Although both families' "star babies" had different educational environment, they agreed that they could not spoil their children. When they should educate them they would have to "educate" them. On their children's future choices, they felt that they should respect their children, but both seemed to lean against letting their children come in contact with show business too soon.

[2009.05.21] BATEER JOINS BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS

Since the holiday film release BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING) began production, the "nine king one queen" cast has become the hot topic. A new addition is the "basketball giant" Bateer, who plays a street vendor in the film. He would protect Dr. Sun Yat-Sen along with Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Leon Lai Ming. Bateer arrived in Shanghai late at night and headed directly to the costume fitting. For the 2.11 meter tall basketball player costume fitting was not easy. The costume director looked for help from a taller assistant. Bateer joked, "None of you has seen such a tall street vendor!" When he ran into Tse Ting Fung, Fan Bingbing and Li Yuchun on the set, everyone chatted and joked with him with respect.
