[2012.02.09] ELLA KOON CANNOT WAIT TO TOUCH HER AWARD

Teddy Robin Kwan earlier with MERRY GO ROUND won the Best Actor award at the Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival in Sydney Australia.  Ella Koon Yun Na also won Best Actress with the film.  MERRY GO ROUND director Clement Cheng Si Kit two nights ago welcomed him at the airport and presented flowers to wish him well.

Teddy Robin two nights ago with Susan Shaw Yam Yam flew from Australia to Guangdong then to Hong Kong.  This time Teddy defeated LET THE BULLETS FLY's Chow Yun Fat and Ge You, which he admitted was quite surprising.  Because he was nominated with both GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) and MERRY GO ROUND, at first he thought he won with GALLANTS.  Teddy Robin pointed out that MERRY was about charity organization Tung Wah hospitals' history.  He was very happy to win with this film.  How would he celebrate?  Teddy said that the airline did not have a direct flight back to Hong Kong.  They had to transfer in Guangzhou and finally waited 15 minutes before departure.  Now he would not go home and rest the most.

Yesterday Teddy appeared on a radio interview, Best Actress Koon Yun Na called the station as well.  Ella said that due to a television series she could not accept the award in person, which she regretted.  She saw photos of Teddy with the award and wanted to touch the award soon.  She thanked the cast and the crew, everyone had a lot of fun working together.  Of course most importantly she had to thank Teddy.  In the film they had many scenes together and she thanked him for his guidance.  Later she would like to celebrate with everyone when she would have the chance.  Teddy praised Ella's performance as very natural, her eyes knew how to act.  He even revealed that he has seen Ella's boyfriend and they even jammed together.

[2012.02.08] TEDDY ROBIN KWAN WINS BEST ACTOR IN AUSTRALIA

Veteran film professional Teddy Robin Kwan Singer Actress Ella Koon Yun Na earlier with the Hong Kong film MERRY GO ROUND (DUNG FUNG POR) won Best Actor and Best Actress at the Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival in Sydney, Australia.  The Jiang Wen directed LET THE BULLETS FLY won Best Picture.  He personally received the Best Director Award.

Teddy Robin last year with GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor and the Hong Kong Film Critic Society Best Actor.  This year at the Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival he crushed LET's Chow Yun Fat, Ge You and Taiwan film's JUMP! ASHIN's Eddie Peng Yu-Yen for Best Actor as his outstanding acting was again recognized.  He even personally went to Sydney to accept the award and returned to Hong Kong last night.  This time he was very surprised to be recognized again with MERRY.  Ella due to work could not personally accept the award.

With 2012 to be the 30th anniversary of Teddy Robin as a director, Schoolmates Culture Club from February 17 to 26 will hold a Teddy Robin Panorama with seven films that he produced, directed or starred.  It will include his first film a director ALL THE WRONG SPIES (NGOR OI YEH LOI HEUNG), THE STORY OF WOO VIET and his recent films MERRY GO ROUND and GALLANTS.  The film will display his undying spirit.

[2011.07.24] LAM KA TUNG REVEALS ANDY LAU'S SALARY IS FLEXIBLE

The Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers organized film training 2010 yesterday held its commencement ceremony. Attending guests included Federation president Ng See Yuen, Joe Cheung Tung Cho, Teddy Robin and Lam Ka Tung.

Ng See Yuen said that the training class has already reached its second year. Earlier it was a collaboration with IVE and this year the program received almost 9 million in film development fund assistance to cultivate a new generation of filmmakers. Will the class continue? Ng See Yuen said, "We will have to see how the personnel arrangement is, whether instructors can make time."

Lam Ka Tung was asked about the movie that he produced and Andy Lau Tak Wa starred in. Ka Tung said that the soonest it will start production will be next year, however the content has yet to be confirmed. They have many choices for directors. Did Wa Jai charge a very high rate? Ka Tung said that he would calculate everything to its best and joked that Wa Jai's salary would not be much. As for a sequel for GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI), Ka Tung said that he had the idea but it would not happen in the short run. He said, "Next week I will have to go to Malaysia to work with (Chrissie) Chau Sau Na on the new film PAPER MOON (JI YUET LEUNG) for a month. In the film I am a kite maker and have emotional scenes with Sister Na, but I definitely don't have any swimsuit scene!"

[2011.05.17] LAM KA TUNG IS AFRAID OF BEING ATTACKED FOR WORKING WITH CHRISSIE CHAU

Lam Ka Tung yesterday appeared on a Metro radio interview. He revealed that recently he has been planning a Malaysia funded erotic film in which he would play a Malay kite master who had two relationships in the film. Now he is working out to get into shape and getting a tan. In the film he and Chrissie Chau Sau Na had relationship scenes but he joked that he has shown all that he had to show. He also said that it should not have any "bed" scene because the location had sunny beaches. Ka Tung also pointed out that Malaysia was an Islamic place with simple local culture. He instead was afraid that people would attack him for working with Sister Na. He hoped the otakus would remain cool.

Ka Tung said that after GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Picture, he received a producer offer from a foreign company to make an aciton film. The film will cost several million and for now he planned to work with Hong Kong and U.S. actors. Would Andy Lau Tak Wa continue to invest in movies? Ka Tung pointed out that earlier they had a modern inspirational film in mind, but the script has not been written yet. He would like for Wa Jai to personally perform.

[2011.04.24] GALLANTS NEGOTIATES ITS SECOND RELEASE

The film GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) just won four awards at the 30th Hong Kong Film Award, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Music. Immediately it led to an enormous response in the Mainland. Earlier the film's producer Lam Ka Tung led the directors Derek Kwok Chi Kin and Clement Cheng Si Kit, and actors Teddy Robin Kwan, Susan Shaw Yam Yam and Leung Siu Lung to promote in Shenzhen. According to Ka Tung, their Shenzhen visit was very well received. Many Mainland fans performed madly. They have already completely digested the film. Thus when Teddy Robin and Shaw Yam Yam appeared, fans were calling them by their character names. They even memorized the lines from the film, the response was surprisingly good. Thus they are in negotiation to release the film again in the Mainland and Hong Kong within the month to follow the Hong Kong Film Award momentum. Ka Tung said, "We never thought that the second release would have great box office, we just want to express our sincerity." In addition, the film will also release a box set of memorabilia and figures to assist with the promotion.

The film GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) two nights ago won Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Film Score. Producer Lam Ka Tung, directors Derek Kwok Chi Kin, Clement Cheng Si Kit led actors Teddy Robin Kwan, Susan Shaw Yam Yam, JJ Jia (Ga Hiu Sun), Wong Yau Nam and Hanjin Tan (Chen Woon Yan) attended the Tsim Sha Tsui celebration. Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung also came to congratulate them. In addition although Josie Ho Chiu Yi did not win Best Actress, her film DREAM HOME two nights ago celebrated as well. Her husband Conroy Chan Chi Chung attended.

Lam Ka Tung said that he was very happy and was very nervous before. He said that he had the most confidence about Teddy Robin's victory, but did not expect Sister Yam Yam to repeat. The four awards truly were unexpected. Has he called the film investor Andy Lau Tak Wa? He said that he already received five messages from Wa Jai. He not only congratulated the winners but also told everyone to keep working hard. Would Ka Tung produce another movie? He said, "Earlier I didn't want to because of how tough it was, but now with the treat I hope to continue the development." Would he raise his rate? He said that he and Wa Jai did not talk about money, they worked as long as they wanted to. Did he feel this time the elder actors were given the awards? Ka Tung said that could not be said. They were dragons depending on who discovered them. He said that everyone did their best, like Chen Kuan-Tai and Leung Siu Lung who did not use any double or ask for overtime. They were worthy of encouragement. Would Ka Tung and Wa Jai celebrate? He said later Wa Jai would perform concerts in the Mainland, he hoped Wa Jai would give him ten tickets for friends or give each person ten tickets. Then after the show they would dine with Wa Jai. Has Ka Tung heard about Wa Jai becoming a father? He said that he did not know, he left the personal matter for him to talk about himself. These four awards were already four fortunes.

Ho Chiu Yi two nights ago lost Best Actress. She said that she would not be too disappointed. The nomination was like an award for her. She said that she was already very happy with such a performance with her first production. Did she congratulate Carina Lau Ka Ling? She said that she has not have the chance. Did she feel that Ka Ling won due to seniority? She said no, it was unrelated. It was purely due to her good acting. Other than Sister Ka Ling she could not think of anyone else who could play Wu Zetian. She said, "In my heart Lau Ka Ling as Wu Zetian was the best, she appeared with an aura, domineering and very natural."

Chiu Yi said that her sisters Chiu King, Chiu Fung and Chiu Ha accompanied her on the red walk to support her and she was very touched. They stayed for the entire show, which she appreciated. She said, "My sisters rarely say we support you, but as soon as they heard I was nominated they immediately said that they had to come." Chiu Yi said that she would continue to invest in movies and hoped to try again next year. She said that the next film would not be bloody and would be crazy in another way. Would she be the lead actress? She said no necessarily as she would respect the story.

Eric Tsang Chi Wai yesterday attended a golf open tournament with Vivian Lai Shui Yan, Lawrence Yan Chi Keung, Paul Chun Pui and Albert Au Shui Keung.

After Max Mok Siu Chung's drug arrest news, Chi Wai has not been able to contact him. Reportedly Suen Hing was one of the suspects as well, Chi Wai thought that business meetings at night clubs were very hard to say. Accidental ingestion would not be surprising. He hoped that he would be released soon. Chi Wai said that Mok Siu Chung not only did a lot of charity work but also loved to run. Thus he believed deeply that he was a healthy person. As for the Hong Kong Film Award, Chi Wai honestly said that his picks have always been Carina Lau Ka Ling and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung. Thus backstage he also encouraged Ting Fung. He said, "I congratulated Ting Fung to win, if he did not he would sooner or later. Ka Ling's victory was the most perfect, I believe her next goal is to have a child."

Chi Wai also attended the GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) celebration and rarely he left without being drunk. Would he have a chance to work new director Derek Kwok Chi Kin? He said, "His next goal should be winning his own director award. This time he had to admit defeat to Tsui Hark. I am confident that he will very quickly win an award again. I will wait until he finishes CHINESE ODYSSEY before discussing collaboration opportunities." As for the Hong Kong Film Award chair Gordon Chan Ka Seung will soon complete his term, would Chi Wai consider taking over? He said, "Gordon belongs to the Director Guild, I belong to the Performing Artist Guild, each organization would nominate a candidate. My term comes to an end this year too. Actually Gordon has done great and kept close contact with the government."

The 30th Hong Kong Film Award took place two nights ago. Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Carina Lau Ka Ling with STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN) and DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK) won Best Actor and Best Actress as the favorites. Tsui Hark also won Best Director with DETECTIVE, which won six awards to become the big winner. The small budget film GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) won four awards, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor and Actress.

The sixth time was a charm for Ka Ling who last night finally won Best Actress. As she was preparing to give her speech, she laughed out loud a few times then said, "Every time I was nominated I was very happy, but every time I watched someone else won. I am used to disappointment. Today I won I really am not used to it. When I came in I was very peaceful, I thought winning and losing didn't mean that much to me anymore. Yet when I won I was very excited, very happy, actually I can be this happy, haha!" Ka Ling also said that she was nominated six times but did not have a chance to win five times. This time she first thanked Mr. and Mrs. Tsui Hark for their sharp eyes. "They see what even I can't see, during the shoot they taught me a lot and made this character of Wu Zetian feels all new. At the same time I have to thank (Andy) Lau Tak Wa, Li Bingbing and Deng Chao, they were very serious and had a very tough shoot. Thus I want to share this award with you." She also thanked her mother who was present last night and would give the award to her. Finally she thanked her husband Tony Leung Chiu Wai, because of the years he gave her complete freedom to do what she liked. She also said that he sent many text messages to her yesterday because he was worried about her emotions. She said to Wai Jai, "I know I can't catch up to you, but I will slowly chase you." Ka Ling had flowers backstage, actually wai Jai asked someone to deliver them to his wife.

When Ting Fung won Best Actor, he paused for a few seconds then embraced his wife Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi and Nick Cheung Ka Fai. During his speech, Pak Chi broke down in tears. Ting Fung said that Pak Chi asked him four to five times if he won what he would say, and what he wanted to say was when he won the Hong Kong Film Best New Performer Award when he was 18. He imitated his father and said, "Do you know when you were little how many hundreds of movies and hours of television series did I make?" At the time Ting Fung slammed the table with the New Performer prize and asked his father whether he won the Hong Kong Film Award before. However those words upset him for many years. Last night he knew his father was watching television at home and he publicly apologized to his father. "Hopefully you would forgive the arrogant and impolite child then. You had to raise me such a troublesome child and still greeted others with a smile, you are the real Best Actor. Old Man ,sorry!" Then he bowed to the camera.

In addition, with the Hong Kong Film Award in its 30th year, the program opened with a firework show outside the venue as Shirley Kwan Suk Yi and Kay Tse On Kay performed the late Anita Mui Yim Fong hit YEARS FLOW LIKE WATER. Then the Hong Kong Film Award vice chair Eric Tsang Chi Wai spoke. He mentioned that in 2003 due to SARS the event once considered halting the event for a year, but finally decided to keep going. Even if only a few people showed up the show must go on. Chi Wai saw the full house, smiled and said, "That night was like tonight, support Hong Kong film, support Hong Kong medical personnel, I feel very proud!"

Susan Shaw Yam Yam and Teddy Robin Kwan with GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) won Supporting Acting awards. Shaw Yam Yam broke down on stage and said that although she was brave she was so nervous that her legs were shaking. She even said that she was already very appreciative for the nomination. She never thought about winning because the competition was so strong.

Later she said that she felt very fortunate to be a part of the Hong Kong Film Award 30th anniversary, she also gave herself the highest score.

Teddy Robin held the award high on the stage and joked that his mind was a little blank, but he truly was very, very happy. He has been nominated a few times before but did not win, thus he would cherish this award. He also thanked his wife for taking care of their children so he had nothing to worry about. Later he said that many friends thought he had a good chance to win, adding to his pressure. He also thanked his benefactor Tsui Hark because when he wanted to resign behind the scene Tsui Hark asked him to play Inspector Robin in ALL THE WRONG CLUES (GWAI MA JI DOR SING). One of the GALLANTS director Derek Kwok Chi Kin also liked the character and asked him to be in this film. He said, "I used to think I was a decent producer and director, now I have to say without any humility, I am someone who can act."

Musician Hanjin Tan (Chen Woon Yan) stepped onto the Hong Kong Film Award stage for the first time and immediately with BRUCE LEE MY BROTHER defeated double nominee Dennis To Yu-Hang for Best New Performer. To Yu-Hang looked disappointed and forced a smile. Chen Woon Yan was very excited about the award and very honored to participate in this event. He said, "I have always worked on music, I never expected to join the big film family and to be able to witness the Hong Kong film industry spirit."

Fat Gor as the guest presenter was the highlight of the evening. he said that he often faced film in a humble manner because film truly had too much to learn from. He said, "If I have the chance I would be an artist again in the next life, I think, no industry would provide you with such much knowledge, like an encyclopedia." He could not even stop himself by speaking as he said, "I can't on another station, only on this station I can. The Hong Kong Film Award is in its 30th year, I have to speak one minute per year to get my fill." Although Fat Gor was a Best Actor nominee, he still publicly supported Tse Ting Fung and left Pak Chi teary eyed. Fat Gor said, "I am afraid of losing to Ting Fung. His comment earlier were too touching (Ting Fung talked about why he opened a post production company in Hong Kong), he has parents above and wife and children below. The next 30 years of Hong Kong depends on you, Ting Fung! Two nights ago I ran into your Ma, Lai Goo (Deborah Li). I told her to come and support you, but she just made faces at me. I think she is pretty wrong, Ting Fung I support you."

Tsui Hark was very happy to win Best Director again after 19 years. "This is my second Hong Kong Film Award for Best Director, I don't even remember when the first time was. I am very happy. I like all four directors' movies. I won this dramatically, I hope they would share it with me."

[2011.04.17] FIVE STRONG FILMS COMPETE FOR BEST PICTURE

The 30th Hong Kong Film Award will take place tonight at the Cultural Center. Seen as the final award of the year, Best Picture nominees include GALLANTS (DAI LUI TOI), DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK), IP MAN 2, STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN) and REIGN OF ASSASSINS (GIM YU). Before the battle they have already become the hot topic!

This year's Hong Kong Film Award Best Picture nominees have one thing in common, they are all full of martial art fighting elements and prove that in recent years the film market focuses more on martial art action subjects. The most special part is the directors of five Best Picture nominees are also nominated for Best Director, proving that every film is an exciting. Out of the five films, the Tsui Hark directed film DETECTIVE has the best chance. The film received 13 nominations, the most this year. It is the favorite for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress.

However changes may still take place. The John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) produced, Su Chao-Bin directed REIGN has 11 nominations, second only to DETECTIVE. Under producer Ng Yu Sum, the director achieved a wuxia film romantic beauty and its chance increased. The Raymond Wong Pak Ming, Li Xiaoran and An Xiaofen produced IP MAN 2 last year broke 200 million in the Mainland with a better story and pace than the first film. In addition IP MAN in 2009 already won Best Picture so it had a chance to win again.

Another commercial and critical hit STOOL had the frequently awarded in recent years director Dante Lam Chiu Yin and Nick Cheung Ka Fai. Earlier STOOL won many awards in the Mainland as shots of confidence for the Hong Kong Film Award Best Picture. As for the Lam Ka Tung produced GALLANTS, although its cast and production budget were lacking in comparison to its competition, its word of mouth far exceeded expectation. It was a rare work of sincerity in recent years. Earlier at the 17th Hong Kong Film Critic Society Award it won Best Picture.

To honor local film industry professionals, the 17th Hong Kong Film Critic Society Award was presented yesterday at the Hong Kong Film Archive. Best Actor Teddy Robin Kwan and Best Actress Miriam Yeung Chin Wa both accepted their awards in person. Chin Wa dressed up to accept her first film honor. When she accepted the award from Johnnie To Kei Fung she was so touched that she was teary eyed.

Earlier the event has already announced the winners. Yesterday many winners including Ivy Ho (On Sai), Su Chao-Pin, Lam Ka Tung, Teddy Robin, Yeung Chin Wa attended. The event also asked To Kei Fung to be the special guest presenter. First time Best Actress Yeung Chin Wa dressed up for the occasion and became the media focus. When she accepted the Best Actress award she was tearfully touched. Chin Wa said, "I don't have any reason to be so scared, so excited! Beyond scared! I have to thank Ms. (Elaine) Lok, Brother (Lawrence) Tan and (Barbara) Wong Chun Chun!" After settling down, she said, "I am very glad to have a long road ahead, I still have room for improvement! I am very happy that the event recognized my actor identity!" She also took the chance to promote and said, "Actually I am not expensive, we can meet in person to negotiate!" Chin Wa later admitted that she had no idea about why she was teary eyed. She said, "I don't know why I was so excited even though I knew the result in advance! I never imagined accepting the award from To Sir's hands, I hoped to have more chances to act from now on!" As for taking the chance to make opportunities, Chin Wa honestly said that on many occasions the negotiations were secret. She said, "If I run into a good script and company idea I would do the same! (Would you work for free?) If the company doesn't take a commission then I can!" She smiled and said that she planned to bring the award to bed. Was she confident about the Hong Kong Film Award? She said, "I never thought about winning! The nomination was already more than enough!"

In addition, Best Actor Teddy Robin won his first film award in Hong Kong, which he was very satisfied. He said, "I don't act much, over the years I have only 20 some movies. I worked behind the scene more. However this victory is cherished, it is unexpected!" As for the Hong
Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor nomination, he said that the company enrolled him into the competition. Teddy Robin said, "In the film I can be Lead or Supporting Actor. Hong Kong Film Award is industry recognized so I hope for even better opportunities, but the nomination is
already a victory for me!" He said that GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) boss Andy Lau Tak Wa will treat them to dinner to celebrate.

The Hong Kong Film Development Council representative and a dozen or so Hong Kong directors including Alex Law Kai Yui, Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting, Ivy Ho (Ong Sai), Barbara Wong Chun Chun, Yanyan Mak Yuen Yan, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Clement Cheng Si Kit and others will attend and recommend many low budgets Hong Kong life reflecting films like ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW (SHUI YUET SUN TAU), CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI), GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) and LOVER'S DISCOURSE (LUEN YUN SHUI YU) as well as new directors overseas. Hong Kong Film Development Council Secretary General Wellington Fung Wing expressed that currently local low budget film development strategy is "rooted in South China, broadcast to the entire nation". In addition, a foreign film site reported that Wong Kar Wai's new film THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) after airing its trailer earlier at the Berlin Film Festival is already in negotiation with an U.S. buyer over North American rights.

[2011.01.23] HONG KONG FILM CRITIC ASSOCIATION SELECTS TOP TEN CHINESE FILMS

The Hong Kong Film Critic Association yesterday announced the 2010 China Hong Kong Taiwan film critic alliance's top ten Chinese and foreign films". Due to the gradually closer relationship between the three lands on both sides of the strait, the selected films or "nominated" films were films that are the most worth recommended to the general audience of all three places. Thus the selection method will no longer be decided by the film's commercial achievement but by film critic's review and evaluation of the film. The order was based on the scores that each organization provided to make the results even more representative. The most important point is the event hoped to display the different results from the three places and not the overall results. Due to films of the three locations have their own merits and the points of view are not completely identical, the timing for a Best Picture for all three places is not arrived yet. Thus the event hoped viewers would start with the chance to watch the recommended films of the three places, gradually expanding to mutual understanding and admiration. One day will come when a Best Picture for all three places will be chosen.

The Hong Kong Film Critic Association 2010 Top Ten Chinese Films in order are MERRY GO ROUND (DUNG FUNG BOR), DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAMES (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK), LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU), UNDER THE HAWTHORN TREE, BREAK UP CLUB (FUN SAU SHUET OI NEI), STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN), AFTER SHOCK, REIGN OF ASSASSINS (GIM YU), GALLANTS (DAI LUI TOI) and MONGA. Among foreign films were INCEPTION, THE SOCIAL NETWORK, CONFESSIONS, and THE HURT LOCKER.

Juno Mak Chun Lung, Stephy Tang Lai Yun, Lam Ka Tung, Pat Ha Man Jik, Wen Chao, producer Willie Chan Chi Keung and others yesterday attended a production start ceremony in a Cheung Sha Wan school. They cut roast pig and prayed together for a smooth shoot.

Juno said that this was a youth action film. More than half of his scenes were fight scenes, but they were different from a pure kung fu film. Would he have any dangerous scenes? Juno said, "Car crashes, building jumps and such. (Would you use a double?) I want to personally perform the stunts. In addition for now I have seen any double similar to me (physically)." Would Chan Chi Keung insure his god son heavily? He joked that he could just keep an eye on him. Juno has been rather obedient. He continued, "Yet before he took the role I had a condition, padding for all his fight scenes. He is a daredevil, he does everything himself. I was reminded of (Nicholas) Tse Ting Fung. He even wanted to jump from the bus himself." Did Juno want to challenge Ting Fung? Juno said that he had the impulse and wanted to do anything that he was able to achieve. He has worked with the director before and had confidence in the producer. Would his girlfriend keep him from doing so? Juno said, "It's ultimately work. I will take the full safety precaution. The most important is being prepared. I felt that I was well prepared."

Stephy and Juno played friends with an ambiguous relationship. Has Stephy been mesmerized? She joked that she has not yet. Reporters joked was it because Alex Fong Lik Sun was better looking? Stephy sweetly smiled and said, "No comparison, I always say comparisons between people kill people." A magazine claimed that Siu Fong was secretly seeing Linda Chung Ka Yun. Stephy said with disbelief, "Huh? He treats everyone very well. (So you are very relaxed?) I am used to it." Then she realized that she said something wrong and explained she meant how he was as a person.

Wen Chao in the film played a friend of Juno. Would he deliberately shake off Stephen Chow Sing Chi's shadow? He joked, "If I don't impersonate everyone instead feels I am pretentious. I won't do it very deliberately. I just have to be natural." Wen Chao honestly said that he liked Sing Yeh very much but has never seen him in person; Sing Yeh has been rumored to return to film this year, Wen Chao very confidently said, "I will work with him. It's a destiny, let's wait until he returns first." Wen Chao also hoped very much to be able to do his part for the film industry, thus he has been in film negotiations.

The Lam Ka Tung produced film GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) won two Hong Kong Film Critic Society awards, Best Picture and Teddy Robin Kwan's Best Actor. Boss Andy Lau Tak Wa supposedly turned on the hose immediately for a sequel. Lam Ka Tung said, "Actually financing isn't a problem. I want the script to be better. I prefer social subjects. (Have your confidence
been increased?) A little!" How did Wa Jai react? Lam Ka Tung said that he only laughed a few times. He knew because Wa Jai just finished his concerts and he did not dare to disturb Wa Jai. He hoped Wa Jai would rest more so he would not arrange for any more celebration.

The Hong Kong Film Critic Society yesterday announced the 2010 Hong Kong Film Critic Society Award winners. With two nominated films Miriam Yeung Chin Wa with PERFECT WEDDING (PO PO CHIU GAI YUN) defeated Tang Wei and Kwai Lun-Mei to win her first Best Actress. Teddy Robin Kwan with GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) defeated Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Simon Yam Tat Wa and Chapman To Man Jat to win Best Actor. GALLANTS also won Best Picture.

Yesterday the Hong Kong Film Critic Society announced its award winners. This year's results after eight hours of discussions and three rounds of voting were chosen. Yeung Chin Wa was nominated with LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) and PERFECT WEDDING and finally won with PERFECT. Chin Wa as the city woman was full of rhythm and at the same time had her own style, thus she won. Chin Wa was very happy about winning Best Actress and felt that it was lucky. She said that before taking every role she never thought about winning. She only thought about playing the role well. This award truly was a very pleasant surprise.

Chin Wa said that everyone has only recognized her singer identity. This time recognized as an actress she truly was very excited. She hoped in the future more directors would give her the chance to try even more different characters. She definitely would work hard. Chin Wa also said that when she learned that she won the Best Actress, she suddenly remembered the title of Lau Ching Wan's film MY NAME IS FAME (NGOR YIU SING MING). Actually when someone seriously worked hard and persisted to the end she would finally be recognized. She also pointed out that film was a group project that required the hard work of many. She thanked Ms. Elaine Lok Yi Ling, Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui and Barbara Wong Chun Chun for giving her such a great script. This script went very in depth with the emotional upheaval of a 30 year old woman. Chin Wa said that her favorite scene with the chat with Teresa Mo Shun Kwan at the
spa, which was able to speak for a group of career women. She also liked her relationship with Eric Kot Man Fai in the film. She said, "Maybe she too had experience in handling exes, ha ha......I know that painful feeling and emotion so I was able to be more at ease with the
performance."

Best Actor went to GALLANTS' Teddy Robin Kwan, who won because his character was not mainstream. Yet in the second half of the story he had quite a presence. His body language and voice were full of a grand master style, as he successfully defeated LA COMEDIE HUMAINE (YUN GAN HEI KET)'s To Man Jat, STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN)'s Cheung Ka Fai and ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW (SHUI YUET SUN TAU)'s Yam Tat Wa.

Lau Tak Wa's release GALLANTS also won Best Picture. Best Director went to REIGN OF ASSASSINS (GIM YU)'s Su Chao-Bin. Ivy Ho (Ong Sai) with CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI) won Best Screenplay. In addition, this year's seven recommended films were REIGN OF ASSASSINS, STOOL PIGEON, BREAKING THE WILLOW (FUNG GUOON CHING SI), LA COMEDIE HUMAINE, LIKE DREAM (YU MUNG), LOVE IN A PUFF and CROSSING HENNESSY. The award ceremony will take place on February 22 at the Hong Kong Film Archive.

Andy Lau Tak Wa's release GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) won Best Picture and its actor Teddy Robin Kwan won Best Actor. Wa Jai was very happy when he received the news and congratulated the film's director, producer Lam Ka Tung and all of its actors. In particular he congratulated Teddy Robin Kwan. Wa Jai said that he was only an investor, Lam Ka Tung was the one who had the foresight to bring a good movie to the audience. He truly was happy for them and was proud of them. He hoped in the future even more investors would support Hong Kong film. As for Teddy Robin Kwan he was in Hainan. He was very surprised to win Best Actor and was very happy. He thanked everyone for their support. Producer Ka Tung also said that he was very happy. His direction was proven correct and he was encouraged. At least from now on finding investors would be easier, because earlier he truly ran into a lot of obstacles. He hoped for more films of this type to appear in the future. Speaking of the lack of Hong Kong actor succession, he said that he was looking for new faces as well. First though they had to learn some tradition and could not just "want fame without working for it".

[2010.11.23] LAM KA TUNG DECLINES TO COMMENT ON THE GOLDEN HORSE RESULTS

Lam Ka Tung yesterday attended a Metro radio interview. Ka Tung's film GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) received a Golden Horse nomination. Ka Tung said that he attended the event earlier. Since it was the nomination he had to attend. This time was also an experience.

Speaking of this year's Golden Horse Award controversy due to most of the awards going to Taiwan films, Ka Tung said, "Are you asking me if it was fair or not? I didn't watch all the movies, I can't say whether it was right or not. Every place has its own judging standard, respect is the most important." He honestly said that this time the winners were somewhat surprised. He agreed with Hou Hsiao-Hsien's comment that Taiwan needed stars. He also praised that Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) had change in his character interpretation and great improvement. Speaking of Eric Tsang Chi Wai's son Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung losing the Best New Director award, Ka Tung pointed out that Chi Wai was able to be with his children (Tsang Kwok Cheung and Tsang Bo Yi) and the scene was already very exciting.
