courtesy of takungpao.com

WU XIA yesterday held an event in Busan.  Director Peter Chan Ho Sun led leads Tang Wei and Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) in attendance.  October 7 was Tang Wei's birthday, which she said that she spent in Busan for two years in a row.  She even said that Busan cake was delicious.  She also wished Hyun Bin who is serving his military duty good health.

Tang Wei and Hyun Bin worked together on LATE AUTUMN, which she appeared at last year's Busan Film Festival for.  A reporter asked about the difference between Hyun Bin and Gum Sing Mo.  Tang Wei responded, "The difference is I can speak Chinese with Gum Sing Mo, but with Hyun Bin I can only speak inferior English for daily exchange.  The similarity is when I went to Taiwan with Gum Sing Mo, his 'old ladies' (fans) were very crazy.  When I came to Korea, Hyun Bin's fans were also very crazy.  Everyone was very attentive as we all have witnessed."  Hyun Bin and Tang Wei were linked in rumors.  What did she want to say to Hyun Bin who is currently serving his marine duty?  Tang Wei wished him good health.

The Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Wai Ying Hung, Jimmy Wang Yu, and Tang Wei starred new film WU XIA two nights ago held a premiere and attracted many viewers and guests like Chingmy Yau Suk Ching, Fala Chen, Ray Lui Leung Wai, Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) and others. Earlier suffering a stroke Wang Yu two nights ago was alert and even put cream from Yen Chi Tan's birthday cake on Chi Tan's and Tang Wei's faces like a child. Wang Yu said, "Eight months after fighting with Chi Tan I suffered a stroke. I hope to rest for three months and we would work on another film together to fight again."

Yen Chi Tan's birthday was yesterday, the event presented a cake to celebrate in advance. Chi Tan said, "My wife and children have already arrived in LA. After the interview I will fly over to meet with them, once I arrived I will celebrate with them. Because of the time different, when I arrive it will still be my birthday." Chi Tan said that when he was little the first film that his father took him to see was Wang Yu's ONE ARMED SWORDSMAN (DUK BEI DOH). Wai Ying Hung studied martial art with Chi Tan's mother when she was young and could be considered Chi Tan's elder. Chi Tan said, "This time was my first collaboration with Siu Hung. In the film we fought until we PK." Tang Wei expressed that this time the director gave her a chance to be a real woman. Gum Sing Mo thought that the director was highly demanding. During the shoot he also learned from other actors.

Hung Doi Lam who went to the movie alone wanted to get a photo with her idol Gum Sing Mo. Yet once she arrived she felt embarrassed. When asked whether Aaron Kwok Fu Sing or Gum Sing Mo was more handsome, Hung Doi Lam said, "They are different types of handsome, different quality, different personalities." As for whether height could decide a winner, Hung Doi Lam said, "You can't gauge with that, I can only say that I am more familiar with Aaron." Also came to support Gum Sing Mo, Fala Chen said that when she was in school she already dreamt about meeting Gum Sing Mo. She said, "This is a complex, when I see him in my dream I would definitely faint but in real life I didn't." Yau Suk Ching who attended with her husband Shum Ka Wai said that Sandra Ng Kwan Yu invited her. At the same time because it was a martial art film, she did not bring her children.

[2011.07.22] TAKESHI KANESHIRO CALLS FANS "OLD LADIES"

Peter Chan Ho Sun two nights ago led the cast of WU XIA like Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Tang Wei, and the One Armed Swordsman who made his first public appearance after his stroke Jimmy Wang Yu to the Taiwan premiere. Almost 1,000 fans came in support. Gum Sing Mo was very excited to see the fans. Normally cool, he actually screamed "Old Lady" at the fans and had them under his spell.

Two nights ago Gum Sing Mo received the support of many fans. Host Matilda Tao Ching Ying even led fans in screaming "Hubby" at him. Gum Sing Mo awkwardly laughed but he finally responded, "Every Old Lady How Are You!" Fans screamed out of joy. Wang Yu made his first public appearance after his stroke and looked good. Many fans enthusiastically presented flowers to him. His good friend and Golden Horse Best Actor Ke Jun Hsung led over 20 members of the "action director union" in support. Wang Yu even joked, "In less than half a year after fighting with Yen Chi Tan I had a stroke, you can see how powerful his martial art is!" Chi Tan laughed and said, "Big Brother, when you talk like that I don't dare to go outside!"

Tang Wei was asked the difference between Ang Lee and Chan Ho Sun. She pointed out that Ang Lee was the principal and would arrange for them to attend many classes. Chan Ho Sun just asked her to perform freely. Chan Ho Sun joked, "One knows what he wants and the other doesn't know what he wants." After Taiwan, the director will lead Yen Chi Tan and Gum Sing Mo to Japan and Singapore to continue the Southeast Asia promotion. The team will gather again in Hong Kong on July 26 for the final stop.

Chan Ho Sun and Yen Chi Tan earlier talked about the joy and the pain of the film production in Hong Kong. Chi Tan said that the most difficult was his roof top chase scene with Wai Ying Hung in Yunnan. The location had many beautiful roof tile homes but because the homes were very close, they had a hard time to find places to put their equipment. Chan Ho Sun at first did not think about shoot on the roof top but Chi Tan thought the environment was so pretty that it would be a waste not to shoot there. However the people of Yunnan were very superstitious and did not like foreigners to jump around on top of their homes. In addition they had to stabilize the homes inside. Luckily finally after everyone's hard persuasion and forming the chase route, the shoot was successful.

However the inability to use wires during the shoot made it very dangerous. Chi Tan said that the tiles were very slippery. A stunt person during testing had blood all over his hand. Although it was dangerous, Chi Tan said that during the shoot he did not think about it. Instead before hand he had to plan in detail and take all the safety measures. Chan Ho Sun hoped that viewers would like it. They did their best and had no regret.

[2011.07.16] TANG WEI MISSES HER ON SCREEN SON

courtesy of on.cc

Tang Wei two days ago attended a skin care product in Kuala Lumpur and attracted many Malaysia, Hong Kong, Mainland and Korea fans. Earlier she worked on the film WU XIA. She said that she and Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) did not have many scenes together. Speaking of her on screen husband Donnie Yen Chi Tan, she said that he also gave her a personality split. "When he played my husband he was very gentle, but off screen he turned into the film's action director. He was very demanding and everyone around him was very afraid of him!"

Tang Wei honestly said that she did not have any attraction to the two handsome co-stars but instead with her on screen son! Actually this was her first portrayal of a mother. She often mentioned how much she missed her "son" with everyone. She said, "My on screen son is really cute, I would always remember his eyes."

[2011.07.15] TAKESHI KANESHIRO HAS FUN WITH CLOSE COMBAT

courtesy of on.cc

courtesy of singtao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) and Peter Chan Ho Sun yesterday attended a forum at the Beijing People's University. During the event a duel between Gum Sing Mo and Jiang Wu from WU XIA was shown. Actually this scene was removed from the Mainland release, thus yesterday it was a special screening. The event also arranged for three students to perform mountain folk songs to coordinate with the story in the film.

This duel was almost too much for Gum Sing Mo. he had to stand in water for hand to hand combat with Jiang Wu but also had to wield his umbrella as a weapon like acrobats. Luckily action director Yen Chi Tan was on hand to direct. With his natural talent he was able to complete this scene sooner than he expected.

However during the shoot, Gum Sing Mo slipped and fell into the water several times. He almost "poked" Wu Jing in the eye during close combat. Luckily Jiang Wu was fast enough to dodge it. Even Chan Ho Sun was sweating bullets. Gum Sing Mo said, "This fight scene is truly satisfying for me. I consider it as some wu xia fun! Of course I have to thank Yen Chi Tan. I appreciate him very much. He not only has to perform but also handle the action part. I deeply experience his spirit for perfection. No matter how tough it got he would always do his part to its best. No wonder everyone say he is the strongest in the universe."

In another needle to the neck scene, Gum Sing Mo revealed that he has always been somewhat resistant to needles. However he realized that this scene was very key so he toughed it out. The team hired an acupuncture specialist to be on hand to direct. Gum Sing Mo recalled, "That practitioner gave me very detailed explanation and demonstration, so I very quickly understood how and where to apply the needle. I could accept and too afraid about applying it not too deep on the neck. I only wanted to finish sooner so I don't have to keep looking at those needles that make me uncomfortable."

[2011.07.01] TAKESHI KANESHIRO OPENS UP ABOUT HIS LOVE LIFE

courtesy of singtao.com

Recently Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo)'s romance was uncovered. He was still busy promoting WU XIA in the Mainland. Yesterday Gum Sing Mo along with director Peter Chan Ho Sun and Wai Ying Hung attended a Chengdu, Sichuan press conference and finally responded for the first time.

Recently the media caught Gum Sing Mo and a mystery woman going out and appearing to be close. His manager has already denied their romance. Yesterday a reporter asked whether Gum Sing Mo was in love or was the news speculation due to WU XIA's release? Gum Sing Mo said, "Earlier my manager already said it, indeed it was not what it looked like. Everyone know I wouldn't be deliberately low key and not promote. Wu XIA's schedule was moved up by a month. Several actors' promotional schedules were all messed up. Now we would try to coordinate when we can. Thank you media for your care and well wishes."

Gum Sing Mo in the film also talked about the experience of working on WU XIA. He said that in the film she spoke Sichuan dialect for the first time. The team hired a tutor for him. The tutor was very pleased with his performance, at least giving it 80 points. Chan Ho Sun also praised Gum Sing Mo's determination. Everyday after the shoot he would ask for the next day's script so the tutor could record the lines into his MP3 player for him to recite. Gum Sing Mo whether in the film and in life would not try anything dangerous. The Sichuan dialect to him this time was a cliff, he had to decide whether to jump. As a director, he of course had to jump with him.

The Peter Chan Ho Sun directed WU XIA two nights ago held its Beijing premiere. Leads Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Tang Wei, Wai Ying Hung, Li Xiaoran, Jiang Wu and others attended. ONE ARMED SWORDSMAN Jimmy Wang Yu was still recovering in Taiwan and did not attend. Sandra Ng Kwan Yu and Cissy Wang also came in support of their husbands. Tang Wei and Gum Sing Mo did not have their significant others' support did not have to worry about being lonely. Tang Wei's "son" came from faraway Yunnan to see her, which moved her to tears. Gum Sing Mo was lucky as he was with Kwan Yu and his on screen wife Li Xiaoran.

Many Mainland actors also attended in support, including BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING)'s Chris Li Yuchu and Wang Xueqi, as well as Gao Yuanyuan, Yolanda Yuan Quan and Li Xiaolu. Chan Ho Sun said that Big Brother Wang Yu had nothing to do in Taiwan and was not at ease, like a child he could not sit still as he kept asking him if he needed help with the promotion. However everyone would like him to take care of his health first so hopefully he would be able to attend the July 26 Hong Kong premiere. Gum Sing Mo's character in the film had the humorous shadow of Stephen Chow Sing Chi, who out of the blue would make you laugh, and opened the eyes of many.

In addition, WU XIA yesterday held its Shanghai premiere press conference. The media that have seen the film in advance said that in WU XIA, Yen Chi Tan and Gum Sing Mo's scenes together were excessively ambiguous and had a "Brokeback" feel. Yen Chi Tan followed up and urged Chan Ho Sun to make BROKEBACK SWORDSMAN with him.

[2011.06.29] TANG WEI HAS A "MOTHER AND SON" REUNION

courtesy of on.cc

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Peter Chan Ho Sun directed, Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) and Tang Wei starred WU XIA yesterday held a Beijing press conference. Gum Sing Mo's Sichuan dialect became the entire film's funny and bright spot.

Gum Sing Mo apologized for his less than accurate Sichuan dialect. "I wasn't fluent and no one understood me, I am truly sorry. This was a very huge challenge for me in this film." Tang Wei in the film played a village lady. She did not have much screen time or many lines. When she saw the child actor Xiao Tian who played her son in the film suddenly appeared, she was so excited that she shed tears. Xiao Tian not only wished "Mama" would return to Yunnan where he would cook roast meat for "Mama". He also asked, "When would I have a little brother?"

Chan Ho Sun gave high recognition to Tang Wei's performance. He said that he recognized Tang Wei's performance from CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI) so I asked her to perform. The originally minor role due to Tang Wei's very outstanding performance finally added her screen time at the end of the film.

[2011.06.11] DONNIE YEN REVEALS ALMOST BURYING ASSISTANT UNDER A WATERFALL

courtesy of on.cc

courtesy of singtao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Director Peter Chan Ho Sun two nights ago along with Donnie Yen Chi Tan host a lighting ceremony over a 3,591 square meter WU XIA poster wall on the banks of the Huangpo River in Shanghai. The poster area broke the late Michael Jackson special cover poster's old Guinness World Record of 2698 square meters). The event then aired an eight minute long promotional film. Chi Tan revealed that for this movie he almost buried a brother under a waterfall and choked up several times.

Chi Tan said that in a scene in which Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) pushed him off a cliff, Chan Ho Sun was worried that it was not perfect enough and gave up on using a computer. He decided to use "wires" at the hundred meter waterfall. Chi Tan's assistant went downhill to
scout the terrain. Hours after he realized that his assistant was missing. As everyone panicked, his assistant suddenly appeared with a face full of blood. Actually his assistant while scouting the location slipped and rolled from the hill to the river. Luckily when he fell he grabbed onto branches by the shore. Otherwise he would have gone over the hundred meter waterfall. Chi Tan got rather upset as he recalled this incident and choked up several times. "Many people look down on stunt people, but in my heart, the stunt professionals are the most respectable people in the entire film industry. My achievements today is because of the group of brothers who would go through life and death with me. I am not battling alone."

When the ceremony was halfway through, drizzle suddenly fell. The screen happened to be showing Chi Tan and the stunt team's "life and death gate" experience during the shoot. Chi Tan even sentimentally said, "People are living, Heaven is watching. Even Heaven is crying, even Heaven is touched." Did Chi Tan feel any fear during the performance? Chi Tan honestly said, "I was afraid, actually everyday I was afraid. Our business is particularly similar to an athlete, we both take risks of our lives. I have experienced many injuries. Several times during the shoot I was almost blind. This shoot was even more special. Chan Ho Sun in order to pursue the solid feel of the house made changes for ordinary people's house instead of building sets. Many locations were several decades or even a century old homes. Running all over the place on top of them, of course I was afraid." Chan Ho Sun also said, "I always thought I was a perfectionist, I never thought Yen Chi Tan was even more demanding than me. I thought an action sequence was already OK after three takes, but after forty or fifty takes he still wouldn't stop." He said that after making this film, he learned something new about Chi Tan. He thought that Chi Tan was not only a great action director but a good actor.

In addition, WU's Jimmy Wang Yu at the end of last month suddenly fainted from a stroke while dining with friends in Zhuhai, luckily his life was not at risk and now he is recovering at home. His daughter Linda Wong Hing Ping said, "Thank you everyone for your concern, Papa is already fine and has returned to Taiwan for recovery. In the future his health will come first." Chan Ho Sun who just worked with Wang Yu was somewhat upset to learn about Wang Yu's stroke. He said that Wang Yu earlier went to Cannes and Beijing to promote WU XIA, perhaps all the traveling led to this. With the film's upcoming release, would he ask Wang Yu to participate in any promotion? Chan Ho Sun said that his health would come first and make the determination based on his condition.

[2011.06.03] PETER CHAN ASKS TAKESHI KANESHIRO TO BE STRANGE

courtesy of singtao.com

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) in WU XIA played a detective with a mouth full of Sichuan dialect. On the first day of work, director Peter Chan Ho Sun already asked him to "conduct an autopsy". Finally after inspecting over 100 corpses in a day Gum Sing Mo had nightmares all night. The next day at work he was still shaken and complaining to the director. For this autopsy scene, Gum Sing Mo worked until he was completely broken down, as the corpses were truly too realistic. Chan Ho Sun even joked with Gum Sing Mo, "Sorry, although these corpses were made from special material, in order to ensure their 'fresh' quality we must finish the shoot in one day. You might as well tough it all out in one day."

Aside from being familiar with behavior, his look even had an ancient detective feel. Chan Ho Sun did not ask Gum Sing Mo to be handsome but strange. When Gum Sing Mo tried on the small pair of glasses and put on a backpack, he joked, "I look more like an OB/GYN." Chan Ho Sun even revealed, "Actually Gum Sing Mo after the production began was unable to find his feeling. Finally one day Gum Sing Mo said to me, 'You don't want Gum Sing Mo.' I said, right, I want Takeshi Kitano. Actually I not only wanted Takeshi Kitano but Takeshi Kitano and (Stephen) Chow Sing Chi, Takeshi Kitano's illogical behavior and Chow Sing Chi's illogical questioning."

Although Gum Sing Mo's costume looked simple, but from top to button, inside to outside, it was all real antique. Aside from the glasses, the team was the most worried about the hat on his head. Not only was it expensive, more importantly it was the only world in the world. It had its own security box. During the shoot, wherever Gum Sing Mo went, the security box went. In order to find a straw hat that was "wide brim and good transparency", Dora Ng Lei Lo looked all over the world's antique hats. Finally she ordered over 30 from the U.S. for 4,000 to 5,000 each.

Purchasing the WU XIA North American distribution rights, the famous U.S. distributor The Weinstein Company's boss Harvey Weinstein held a private yacht party for the film's team, including Mr. and Mrs. Peter Chan Ho Sun, Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Tang Wei and others. Two time Oscar Best Actress winner Jane Fonda made an appearance as a mystery guest and surprised everyone.

After three days of whirlwind promotions, they finally were able to relax on a yacht cruise. Sandra Ng Kwan Yu was envious of how energetic Jane Fonda was. Actually Jane Fonda has seen Kwan Yu and Chi Tan's movies so when she learned about their appearance at the party she jumped at the chance to participate. When Jane Fonda arrived, she just missed the film's premiere. However Sarah Jessica Parker and Harvey Weinstein kept recommending this film to her so she looked forward very much to seeing WU XIA in the U.S. and would not miss the chance to see it again.

Sarah Jessica Parker gave WU XIA plenty of face in Cannes. First she and Adrien Brody appeared at the Weinstein new film introduction, then she wore a butterfly dress to the WU XIA red carpet "butterfly effect". Sarah appeared again at the party. Sarah at the party told Kwan Yu how amazing Chan Ho Sun was. She also said that she has never seen such an exciting film and praised Yen Chi Tan's action design.

The actors enjoyed themselves at the party and enjoyed the Cannes scenery at sea. Chan Ho Sun, Ng Kwan Yu, Yen Chi Tan and Cissy Wang kept taking photos, Tang Wei savored the food while Gum Sing Mo drank in the sea breeze in a rare chance to relax.
