Karena Lam Ka Yun yesterday attended the Hong Kong International Film Festival organized Jockey Club Cine Academy press conference as the ambassador woh will promote and encourage film appreciation to young people.  Ka Yun said, "The event will have different forums to encourage young people how to watch movies.  Some knowledge doesn't come from books."

Lam Ka Yun is busy with the play WILD BOAR with Dayo Wong Chi Wa and Liu Kai Chi.  Ka Yun said, "Privately I even make fun of Wong Chi Wa often.  Actually many young girls are his fans and worship him very much."  Ka Yun revealed after completing the 18 show run she will focus on raising her daughter.  Because she is a film worker, she took time for film industry work this time.  Ka Yun said, "Now my daughter comes first, in
the first year the daughter really needs Mama to be around.  Now family would be my first priority."  Ka Yun spent the Lunar New Year in Hong Kong for the first time.  She said that she was very happy to give away laisees and her daughter also received many.  Ka Yun said, "I will save all of my daughter's laisees up, when she grows up I will get them to her."

Yesterday Ka Yun looked a little like when she was first pregnant.  She said that now her daughter is over a year old, knows how to crawl and gradually understands.  She said, "I want to have another but so far I am not yet.  Today I wear more clothes because I am worried that I would get sick during the play's run.  As for children I will take a natural course.  To raise my daughter for now I won't make Mainland movies so I don't have to be out for too long."

The 5th Asian Film Award took place last night at the Convention center. On the red carpet before the award ceremony were many faces that Hong Kong people were familiar with, like Mr. and Mrs. Chow Yun Fat, Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Carina Lau Ka Ling, Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai), Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Joan Chen, Angelica Lee Sinjie, Sally Yeh (Yip Sin Man), Huang Xiaoming, Wai Ying Hung, Han Geng and a group of Miss Asia. Although yesterday the temperature warmed up, but few female stars were sexy. The sexiest was Zhang Ziyi who arrived in the company with Aaron Kwok Fu Sing. When asked whether she got back together with Fok Kai San, she was pulled away she could answer. However she did not forget to look back and smile.

Wai Jai and Ka Ling walked the carpet hand in hand. As the nominee Ka Ling was in good spirit. The host asked whether Wai Jai felt different from any other year on the red carpet. Wai Jai said that they felt pretty much the same. The host said that this year Ka Ling was nominated, then Wai Jai said that she was confident. Ka Ling said that this year every co-star was great, including her, Fat Gor and Ge You, the best would be if they all won. Speaking of THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) production halt rumor, Wai Jai clarified that actually it wrapped. Now he is working on another film in Beijing. Would making one movie after another affect his plan to have a child? Wai Jai said no. Fat Gor who was nominated for Best Actor with LET THE BULLETS FLY was asked if he came to accept an award. He joked, "I came to slap you around." Would he direct like Jiang Wen? Fat Gor said that the directing job was very complicated. He did not know how to do it but he felt that now Mainland films had ample production conditions and financing, talent and quality were very high. As for Japanese representatives unable to come to Hong Kong, Fat Gor said that was understandable and hoped that they would be able to recover, rebuild their country and attend again next year. Currently resting Fat Gor was asked whether he took part in the recent run on salt. He continued to joke, "I don't have to, Clearwater Bay has plenty. It's clear and no one has to fight over it." As for Hong Kong raising fund for the Japan disaster relief, Fat Gor said that we should and that he would donate money.

Due to the Japan earthquake, Japanese film CONFESSION Best Actress nominee Takako Matsu could not attend. However director Tetsuya Nakashima attended as scheduled. Although he has already been to Hong Kong before, he was very happy to participate again. He also said that now is a very solemn time for the people of Japan, but everyone will work hard on rebuilding their home and hopefully everyone will support Japanese films. This year the event added the Asian Film Lifetime Achievement Award, which went to former Golden Harvest boss Raymond Chow Man Wai. Last night in the company of his wife and daughter he attended and accepted the award. He said that film was the career of his life. He likes film all his life and film is also his favorite job. Thus even though he had to retire he was very happy. He also hoped that everyone would continue to work hard for Asian films.

Lee Sinjie was asked about when she would have a child. She said that she would take it naturally but she would be very busy in the next two years. She also said that she and Karena Lam Ka Yun exchanged text messages and praised Ka Yun's baby as very cute. For now she would like to play with other people's children more. As a guest presenter Yip Sin Man was asked whether she would like to return to the big screen. She joked that people had to approach her first but she thought she was not so lucky. She said that she was already very happy to be fortunate enough to see good movies. As for Hong Kong show business fund raiser for Japan disaster relief, she would like to participate. If she could go to Japan it would be even better. Although she was afraid of radiation too, it was tougher for the victims in Japan. Huang Xiaoming was nominated for Best Supporting Actor with SACRIFICE. Reportedly he and AngelaBaby went to see the Karmapa to ask about a wedding date. He said that they both respected the Karmapa very much and said that the Karmapa was an ordinary person too and he liked photography very much.

courtesy of mingpao.com

The Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung directed film LOVER'S DISCOURSE (LUEN YUN SHUI YU) two nights ago held a premiere. One of the actresses who is currently focused on taking care of her daughter Kayla in Vancouver, Karena Lam Ka Yun through recording stated that she could not return to Hong Kong for premiere. She regretted that she was unable to witness the birth of this film baby. She even said see you later, proving acting was still on her mind.

During the premiere, Kay Tse On Kay and Eason Chan Yik Shun who were linked in rumors were very awkward on the same stage. Kay dodged as soon as she saw Eason came close and refused to be interviewed with Eason; later she was only willing to pose with him for pictures at the urging of the media. However she still was somewhat stiff. Did Eason feel Kay mind being interviewed with him? Eason said, "She is overthinking it, I don't mind!" Was Kay avoiding him? He immediately turned around and loudly asked Kay who was doing an electronic media interview, "Are you avoiding me?" Kay was surprised and jumped as she did not know how to
respond. Eason said, "She is doing an interview. Don't mess with her, she is scared to death."

Did he feel sorry that Lam Ka Yun could not attend the Hong Kong premiere? Eason said, "How can she be willing to put down the baby! She gets disturbed if she returns to Hong Kong. The air is better overseas and is a little better to the child. If it was me, I wouldn't come back either. Being a mommy is great."

Another star Eddie Peng Yu-Yan could not attend either and the event put a mannequin in his place. When Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Chan Yik Shun leaned on it, its arm broke off. Eason jokingly asked the PR to immediately take the mannequin to the emergency room.

Jacky Heung Jor and William Chan Wai Ting looked so similar that even Mrs. Charles Heung Wa Keung said that she mistook William for her son. Two nights ago they attended the premiere and even they thought they looked similar, the most was the eyebrows and corners of their eyes. However Heung Jor clarified that Mrs. Heung did not mistake William for him. How could a mother mistake her own son?

William said that the first time he saw Heung Jor he truly was somewhat taken back. He said, "In the film he played a younger Heung Jor. Because we looked similar, he really felt like a brother." Heung Jor felt like William was a relative. Although they did not meet often, they got
along well; William also said that the feeling was curious. When asked why they did not attend with their girlfriends, Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin and Race? Heung Jor said work was work, they did not need to attend together. William followed, "Work is work, I listen to my brother."

William revealed that his character had an oedipal complex. "In it I have a crush of Chan Ka Lok's Mommy. At first I thought it was somewhat deranged, so I talked with Director Tsang Kwok Cheung about how to grasp this character. We talked to the point where we had arguments. Actually Tsang Kwok Cheung projected his childhood into this character. I saw how honest he was so I could only accept it."

Chan Ka Lok revealed that in the film he and William had a special relationship. "In one scene I had to leave Hong Kong. I wanted to test whether he had any feeling for me, but I had to keep smoking to pretend I didn't care. Finally I had 30 cigarettes, I really smoked until I puked." Si Nga also came to support the film. "They told me about the shoot. I have worked with the director before so I really want to see it!"

courtesy of takungpao.com

New film LOVER's DISCOURSE (LUEN YUN SHUI YU) directors and writers Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung and Jimmy Wan Chi Man yesterday appeared on a RoadShow program and shared their experience as their new film competed in the 15th Pusan Film Festival for the New Wave award.

The cast included Karena Lam Ka Yun, Eason Chan Yik Shun, Mavis Fan Hiu Huen, Kay Tse On Kay, Eric Tsang Chi Wai and others. Tsang Kwok Cheung said that before the production started, actors already asked him to save a role for them. Chan Yik Shun was one of those who raised his hand and asked. He also revealed that Lam Ka Yun and Chan Yik Shun were very excited about the chance to work with each other. After years in the business, they have never worked together.

As for Tse On Kay and Chan Yik Shun being in the same film, Tsang Kwok Cheung said, "Before they were linked in gossip we have already asked Tse On Kay to perform. After our impression and text message strategy, we also worked on her husband Louis Cheung Kai Chung who had a stage background. After Cheung Kai Chung read the script, our sincerity finally enabled the collaboration. Later Tse On Kay indeed considered it for awhile due to the gossip. Because their parts were different they did not meet in the film."

On stage he asked the crew to raise the volume of the music. Fu Wing pointed out that her vocal cord has not recovered. The doctor pointed out that she for now could not sing and had to rest for two or three months before complete recovery. Fu Wing said, "Lately I can't sleep constantly. Because I can't record, the pressure is enormous. I can't sing when I perform on the stage. The company told me to 'lip synch', I don't know to pretend to sing so I can only 'half lip synch'." Fu Wing said that earlier she completed her beach volleyball film. She hoped to be able to work on many different characters. As for elder Lam Ka Yun who just gave birth, Fu Wing said, "Ka Yun should rest more, luckily we have Sum Yau in support."

She said about Ka Yun becoming a mother, "I too have fantasized about being Mommy, but I never thought about when to get married and have children because the order can't be rearranged. Although I don't have to get married first, I have to have a boyfriend first." As for Lam Ka Yun bravely giving up work for her baby, Sum Yau said, "I don't feel that's daring, maybe at this moment family and baby to Ka Yun are very important."

[2010.09.25] NATIONAL 3D FILM SWEARS TO RID OF ROTTEN FILM REPUTATION

Director Agan

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Karena Lam Ka Yun, Guo Tao, Wang Gang and 27 top substance actor starred first 3D Asian film DON QUIXOTE will open on October 15 nationwide. The film company earlier conducted a small scale screening and received uniform raves from cinema circuits and media. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television earlier even listed the film as "Major Recommended Film of the Year" and provided 500,000 RMB as encouragement to the film's 3D technology fulfillment breakthrough. The film will open October 28 in Hong Kong.

National 3D productions have always been suspect, some even equated national 3D with rotten films. To clear up the suspicion for the audience, DON's film company earlier held a small scale screening at director Agan's 3D workshop. The workshop was the Mainland's first real 3D workshop. Some of the film's post production was done here. In order to conduct an all purpose testing of film quality, the film company even deliberately hired Beijing University film association's students to the screening. Because they represented young consumers, they would be the pickiest in this area. In the end these students gave extremely high reviews after the screening. The 75 million RMB first all 3D film in Asia, DON also promised to fight against "fake 3D" films until the end.

courtesy of singtao.com

Soon to be "god grandmother" Rebecca Pan (Poon Dik Wa) yesterday stated in an interview that god daughter Karena Lam Ka Yun and Steve Yuen Kim Wai have planned to wed early on, but she was under contract. When she first learned that they were dating she asked Mr. Yuen to communicate with her in writing because she did not use e-mail. "At the time he was studying in England. They both were eager to learn." Poon Dik Wa revealed that Ka Yun would listen to Mr. Yuen's and her suggestion and stop working after giving birth to focus on raising the child. She was rather relaxed during her pregnancy. She often read prenatal books with Mr. Yuen and swam. Originally she planned to fly to Canada to see the baby, but because her friend invited her to perform she cancelled.

[2010.09.12] MORE ON KARENA LAM

Karena Lam Ka Yun

Simon Yam Tat Wa
courtesy of singtao.com

Lucky in love, Karena Lam Ka Yun after her Filmko contract ended in March decided not to renew it and headed to Canada. She would rather give up her career. Although Filmko invested tens of millions on the costume film DON QUIXOTE in hopes of pushing Lam Ka Yun again and
often negotiated a contract with her, Lam Ka Yun was determined to go. She did not appear during DON's promotion and was nowhere to be found at the promotion of her other film with Eason Chan Yik Shun, LOVER'S DISCOURSE (LUEN YUN SHUI YU). An insider who was familiar with her pointed out, "Lam Ka Yun has always had her own personality. Few can hinder her decision. Even though Filmko made her a star single-handedly, love always comes first for her. She wants to get married and start a family. She is determined to do it and never discussed it with the company. When she didn't want to renew her contract she just didn't renew it."

Lam Ka Yun's husband Steve Yuen Kim Wai personally confirmed their registered marriage and her pregnancy. Former boss Alex Wong Hoi Fung was not in Hong Kong. Filmko management's Ms. Wong said, "Congratulations to her!" Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung who worked with Lam Ka Yun on LOVER's DISCOURSE, "Congratulations to her, I am very happy to hear that. Earlier she was rumored to retire from show business, I thought she ran into something unpleasant. Now that I know she is married and pregnant, I am very happy for her. Earlier when I learned that she could not promote LOVER'S DISCOURSE I was somewhat disappointed, but now I am very happy for her. Maybe after she is settled and has her child, I will meet up with her when she returns to Hong Kong. I will also congratulate her through her assistant." Candy Lo Hau Yam also congratulated her through her assistant. She was happy for her and hoped that she would return to work soon after giving birth.

Lam Ka Yun was married June 13 in Vancouver. Aside from parents of both sides, Lam ka Yun's god mother Rebecca Pan (Poon Dik Wa) also attended. Yesterday Sister Pan said that Lam Ka Yun had to muster up a lot of courage for the marriage decision because her beloved show business career would come to an end.

"Now is when Ka Yun is the most fortunate and happiest. Earlier outside speculation is unfair to her. I urged her to publicize her marriage, but she grew up overseas and didn't want to announce her marriage. She forgot that she was a public figure. She has always been healthy and simple but attracted gossip. So let me as god mother tell everyone. I don't want her to seem like she was having an affair."

Sister Pan said that Yuen Kim Wai loved Ka Yun very much. She said, "Ka Yun before marriage mustered up a lot of courage to make this decision because she knew after marriage she might not be able to return. Mr. Yuen doesn't like Ka Yun to come back to show business, but she liked the film art very much. She struggled inside over this. Finally between career and love she chose love, so she got married. With Ka Yun's pregnancy, both of them are very loving and liked children." Sister Pan said that Ka Yun has said that she must raise her own children. She
wanted to be a full time mother and would rather give up her career. She said that Ka Yun and her husband would like a pleasant surprise so they did not want to know the child's sex in advance. They are expectant in November. After giving birth conceivably she would try for more children.

Currently Lam Ka Yun's life is very healthy and normal in Canada. This happy mother to be is learning to cook. Sister Pan went to Canada for the wedding banquet with her maid, who mainly taught Ka Yun how to cook Chinese dishes. She said, "At first Yuen Kim Wai and I were in trouble since Ka Yun's cooking was truly hard to eat, but I watched her improved. She is someone like that, she has to do everything wholeheartedly. Now she is learning to be a house wife."

Sister Pan said that Yuen Kim Fai is working in Shanghai but he will return to Canada to keep his wife company; she said that Lam Ka Yun was a good girl, now she has a happy family she hoped that everyone would congratulate her.

Simon Yam Tat Wa years ago worked on MOB SISTER (AH SOH) with Lam Ka Yun. Although they did not have too many scenes together, Wa Jai was happy for Ka Yun and stated that he had to give her a gift. Wa Jai said, "Originally I planned to give a camera to (Sandra Ng) Kwan Yu, but Kwan Yu denied that she was pregnant. Now I can take it back and give it to Lam Ka Yun first so she can capture the child's growth."

Brother Wa looked thinner and had a goatee. He explained, "It is for Mr. Kam (Kwok Leung)'s film at the end of the month, lately everyday I ran as soon as I had time, so far I have already lost 4 pounds."

[2010.09.11] KARENA LAM IS SECRETLY MARRIED AND PREGNANT

Karena Lam Ka Yun began her film career with Jacky Cheung Hok Yau in JULY RHAPSODY (NAM YUN SEI SUP)

courtesy of on.cc

Film industry sweetheart Karena Lam Ka Yun has had many rumors since joining the business. Earlier she was suddenly rumored to have fallen for married ad director Steve Yuen Kim Wai. They apparently met through her former boyfriend Chan Kwong Wing in 2008. After a two
year long secret relationship his wife was rather upset. Lam Ka Yun after a public event on March 18 suddenly vanished. Once she was rumored to be retiring from show business. Later witnesses claimed to have seen Ka Yun in a Toronto hospital for a scheduled prenatal check up.

Yesterday Yuen Kim Wai finally stood up and spoke to Oriental Daily. He personally analyzed his relationship with Ka Yun, confirmed that they were married this year in Canada and she was indeed with child in Canada. Yuen Kim Wai insisted that Ka Yun was not the third party, and they began after his divorce.

Y: Yuen Kim Wai
R: Reporter

Y: I feel I have to explain something. Actually I feel the reports are wrong, in particular about my ex wife. I have already been divorced for awhile. My ex wife's personality is very peaceful, she absolutely isn't like the magazines described. That is what I want to say the most because
the reports have been very unfair to her. They simply aren't true. Lam Ka Yun is not the third party either. She and I are already married, everything is step by step. Ka Yun and I happened under ordinary circumstances. I started dating Ka Yun after my divorce.

R: Reportedly Ka Yun moved into your building to pursue you and told your ex wife not to mention Ka Yun to reporters?

Y: No such thing happened! It's so exaggerated. Ka Yun and I are very low key. We never thought about hiding anything, we just wanted to be low profile because we have a joyous event at home.

R: What did you wed?

Y: This year, we had a ceremony in Canada. It wasn't a big deal, only dinner with family and close friends. No industry insiders participated.

R: Will Ka Yun return after giving birth?

Y: That depends on her.

R: Don't you want Ka Yun to raise the baby?

Y: Of course I would like her to!

R: Boy or girl?

Y: I don't know.

R: Afraid that the baby may be petty?

Y: I don't know anything about that.

R: Do you like boy or girl?

Y: Haha, don't "chok" me.

R: Expectant in November?

Y: I don't want to say too much.

R: Will it be in Canada?

Y: Yes!

R: Why aren't you in Canada with Ka Yun?

Y: I have a lot to do in Hong Kong, her family has many people who are taking care of her.

R: Are Lam Ka Yun and the child in good condition?

Y: Great! Thank you for your concern.

courtesy of takungpao.com

Karena Lam Ka Yun earlier announced that she was studying overseas and eased out of show business, at the time she already caused quite a reaction in the business. Yesterday a report claimed that Lam Ka Yung was dating a married ad director, but when the director and his wife
were divorced Ka Yun and the director broke up. Ka Yun was even rumored to be pregnant in Canada. Although Ka Yun's Filmko contract has ended, their relationship has been decent.

Yesterday Filmko issued a statement about recent negative reports, stated that it was investigating the source of the information and reserving all rights to take legal action. However it did not confirm whether Ka Yun was pregnant.

[2010.08.26] KARENA LAM'S TANG DYNASTY TANG HITS THE CAR DOOR

courtesy of singtao.com

Karena Lam Ka Yun played an ancient beauty in Asia's first all 3D film DON QUIXOTE. The director had nothing but praise for Ka Yun who performed in her first costume film, working with Ka Yun was a pleasure and she was the most perfect to play Don Quixote's dream girl.

Actually Ka Yun suffered a lot for this film. She had to brave the cold and the exhaustion. Because the background was the Tang Dynasty, the most thriving in Chinese history, Ka Yun's costumes had to pay a lot of attention to details. Every costume took hours to put on the heavy wig and gold jewelry. Ka Yun could not help but laughed. "The hairstyle itself was already very high, I also had to wear some gold hair accessories. Sometimes after work I would forget about my hair's height and run into the car door; luckily the result was very pretty, the
designer deserves the credit."

[2010.08.19] FILMKO DENIES KARENA LAM RETIREMENT RUMORS

courtesy of singtao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Karena Lam Ka Yun's contract with Filmko came to term last year. Reportedly she has decided to retire from show business, has already returned to Canada to be with her parent and would never take another role. Thus she was absent from even the DON QUIXOTE promotion. The film might be her final one. Yet Filmko issued a statement to deny her retirement.

The Filmko management director issued a statement, "Starting at the end of last year, Ka Yun and Filmko switched to an exclusive agent format. The company as in the past will continue to provide a degree of freedom to Ka Yun and respect her. Friends who know Ka Yun should know that she is an artist who loves film passionately but not exposure. Our understanding is if she runs into a film script and work she will continue to accept it. As for her absence from the recent DON QUIXOTE film promotion, Ka Yun has already notified the company early on that she would be traveling and studying."

However, according to those around Lam Ka Yun. She has been studying photography and architecture in Canada and France. She also has become interested in pottery and wanted to switch from show business to development in the art world. Dressed simply and not demanding of a materialistic life, she has never fit in with show business. With her career stalling, she thought about retirement.
