[2012.03.11] JACKIE CHAN QUESTIONS TOM CRUISE'S STUNT PERFORMANCE

courtesy of singtao.com

Jackie Chan's latest action film CHINESE ZODIAC (SUP YI SUN CHIU) will open this holiday season and complete production in May.  Currently only the 4 minute long climax has not been shot yet.  Jackie Chan said that this 4 minute long scene might take two months to finish and will shoot in Hong Kong and other locations.  It will have a very dangerous stunt, even more dangerous than Tom Cruise's Burj Khalifa jump in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL.

He revealed that at first he thought of shooting at Burj Khalifa in Dubai, but changed his mind when he remembered that the audience might misunderstand that he was imitating Tom Cruise.  Jackie Chan asked reporters if they thought Tom Cruise would really jump the tower?  In his past experience the insurance company absolutely would not permit him to jump; back then he too wanted to jump the Effiel Tower in Paris, France but the insurance company prohibited him from doing so.

Jackie Chan guaranteed in CHINESE ZODIAC he personally performed all the stunts.  In the past he was able to jump two stories but now he was able to jump only half a floor, at least he did it himself.  In comparison to many Hollywood stars, they could not jump even half a floor.

Earlier Jackie Chan attended an event to promote a Chinese wine that was named after him.  Karen Mok Man Wai, Li Bingbing and Coco Lee Man came in support; Jackie Chan praised Li Bingbing's tolerance.  Jackie Chan revealed that when they made 1911, he and Li Bingbing had an emotional scene.  Before the shoot she drank half a bottle of red wine and a bottle of Baiju before they were able to overcome their mental block and achieved battlefield romance.

[2011.09.29] JACKIE CHAN ENCOUNTERS DANGER TO PLAY REVOLUTIONARY

courtesy of on.cc

courtesy of mingpao.com
courtesy of takungpao.com

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, the film 1911 came to life.  The film not only described key figure and Father of the Nation Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, Revolutionary martyrs Huang Xing and Xu Zonghan's romance gave the audience further understanding of love in a revolution.  Jackie Chan and Li Bingbing played these historical figures for the first time and both admitted that they suffered.  Bingbing had to shoot in the battle trenches that were made from coal pits and had her fill of sandstorm.  Jackie Chan even said that the shoot made his urine turn black.  He joked that if the shoot kept going he would have died from inhaling too much coal.

1911's three leads Jackie Chan, Li Bingbing and Winston Chao (Chiu Man Suen) earlier came to promote the film in Hong Kong.  Li Bingbing in the film played female revolutionary martyr Xu Zonghan, a heroine at the end of the Qing Dynasty.  Bingbing honestly said that she did not have much understanding of this character but knew that Xu back then was married to someone else.  Later she fell in love with Huang Xing and developed her revolutionary career, she could be considered ahead of her time.  Bingbing said, "Xu came from a wealthy family and was a lady.  She spent her family's money on the women liberation movement, she was a new school heroine of the Xinhai Revolution!"

In history, Xu Zonghan participated in the Revolution as a nurse.  Bingbing in the film did not need to play pretty.  Most of the time she had no make up.  On the other hand her battle trench scene was bitter beyond words.  She said, "Although this time most were ensemble scenes, I had many scenes and suffered too!"  She revealed that because they shot in a Shenyang coal pit, she had to wear a nurse hat in a two meter wide battle trench during an explosion scene.  With all the shrapnel and the dust, the wind machine covered her entire body with coal.  When she opened her mouth to breathe all she got was sand.  However, her co-star Big Brother Jackie Chan in the film also had to be in the battle trench.  Big Brother who has been through many fight scenes did not have an easy time either.  He said, "I worked until my urine was black too.  At the time if I kept going I would've died very soon, because all the coal would have turned into stones in the lung.  In addition the location had a lot of dust and explosion everywhere!"

Big Brother admitted that this was the first time that he played a historical figure.  He joked that playing a general was a lot of fun.  "Under Huang Xing were all young men between the ages of 16 to 24, during the character I was in character too!  Xu Zonghan was a widow and had to carry bullets to help out, these few were the people who brought an end to the Qing Dynasty!"  Bingbing also said that the Huang Xing and Xu Zonghan romance was very romantic.  She said, "Xu Zongha spent her life taking care of and supporting Huang Xing.  She also took him to Hong Kong's Queen Mary Hospital to treat his finger, which told that this person aside from the Revolution also had humanity and real feelings."  Jackie Chan revealed that to be even more in character, he thought about gaining weight to be closer to the real Huang Xing.  He said, "During the shoot I only gained three pounds.  I once planned to add a belly, but because later I would
have to work on CHINESE ZODIAC I didn't dare to."

In addition, Li Bingbing stressed that this film absolutely had the strength to break 200 million RMB at the Mainland box office.  She said, "Now the times are changing.  FOUNDING OF A REPUBLIC made several hundred million, so 1911 can make 200 million!"  Big Brother also felt that this year happened to be the Xinhai Revolution's 100th anniversary, breaking the 200 million RMB box office in the Mainland should not be a big problem.

Jackie Chan, Li Bingbing, Winston Chao (Chiu Man Suen) two nights ago attended the 1911 charity premiere.  1911 was Jackie Chan's 100th film.  As for box office expectation, Jackie Chan instead wanted young people to know from the film that the thriving China now came from a group of self sacrificing forefathers.  Has he taught his son Jaycee Chan (Fong Cho Ming)?  Jackie Chan said, "I told him as the shoot went on, I learnt along the way myself.  Actually our forefathers have done so much for us, I am truly appreciative.  I hope he wouldn't pursue extravagance any further." Has Cho Ming achieved his demand?  Jackie Chan joked that he was OK.  What was his son lacking?  Was he not filial enough?  Jackie Chan explained that he was just a little short, but Cho Ming has been rather filial.  He treated his mother the best.  Jackie Chan sounded a little jealous, he said, "No, (is he a big spender?)  His Mommy will keep a close eye on him."

He and Bingbing was chatting and laughing, Jackie Chan explained that because Bingbing revealed that she had a friend who was interested in bidding at the "Jackie Chan Cup" charity auction, in particular the Olympic torch that Jackie Chan held.  However the bidder was not interested in identifying himself.  Jackie Chan asked Bingbing whether the person would not pay, Bingbing said that she would pay on his behalf.  Bingbing added that since it was for charity, she had to take action as well.

How much was this charity auction's goal?  Jackie Chan said that he did not have any pressure, several million would be enough.  Actually he treated it like a meeting with friends.  He, Bingbing and Winston Chao were all busy on their own, this promotion was the first chance they had to get together again.  In addition if anyone felt pressured, next time no one would come.  Will he organize another Jackie Chan Cup?  He helplessly said, "No, earlier I beg right and left and only raised 500,000 yuan.  After that I would rather pay out of my own pocket for several years.  Someone just told me, the charity fund was just in my name only.  It didn't really belong to me and everyone should help with fund raising.  So we came up with this banquet."  Bingbing said that she was interested in the torch because it had sentimental value.  Winston Chao said that he did not know anything about collectibles so later he would pay attention.

Speaking of 1911 being invited to be the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival special opening film, Bingbing said that she would be working and did not know whether she would be able to attend.  Winston Chao felt that the sooner he knew the date the better, then he could make time.

[2011.09.25] JACKIE CHAN BOASTS THAT HE IS BETTER LOOKING THAN HUANG XING

Jackie Chan, Li Bingbing, Winston Chao (Chiu Man Suen) and others yesterday attended a 1911 press conference.  Big Brother said that he was more handsome that his real life character Huang Xing in the film.  Jackie Chan also said that he had no scene with his son but thought his son's performance was decent.  His co-star Li Bingbing also praised Jaycee Chan (Fong Cho Ming)'s performance as exceeding her imagination and that Cho Ming has already grown from a child to an adult.

Three 1911 leads Jackie Chan, Li Bingbing and Winston Chao yesterday arrived in Hong Kong to attend the film's press conference.  The host discussed their production experience with them.  In the film Big Brother and Li Bingbing played Huang Xing and Xu Zonghan, revolutionaries and lovers.  Jackie Chan demonstrated how she mistook his suicide.  As for her resemblance to Xu Zonghan, Li Bingbing said, "In the film I almost didn't need make up.  The costume also can instantly bring me back to that era."  Playing Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, Winston Chao said that this time at the request of director Zhang Li he played a more relaxed Sun Yat-Sen.  He revealed, "The director asked me not to be in a noble condition, he hoped that I could relax and be a person.  Actually for me it is a little hard!"  He also said that he did not know what Sun Yat-Sen's daily life was like, thus it was a great challenge to his acting as well.

Jackie Chan served as an actor and the chief director.  He stated that more historical films should be made for young people so they would understand history and that today's China did not come easily.  Big Brother also boasted that  he was more handsome than the character and historical figure Huang Xing.  He said, "I am a little more handsome than him."  Big Brother also revealed that the hardest in the film was the classical Mandarin lines.  He responded, "I originally had to make my own investment CHINESE ZODIAC, before the production started I received this film.  Originally I planned to turn down 1911, but later I feel CHINESE ZODIAC could be made at any time, the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution was worth remembering so I decided to make it!"

Later when asked about Bingbing and Big Brother's bed scene that ended up on the cutting room floor, Jackie Chan honestly said, "That scene wouldn't appear in the DVD either.  Actually during that era passion was limited, it's just kissing and hugging, after Bingbing kissed me she objected!"  Bingbing cried helpless and said, "Can I speak in front of Big Brother?"  Speaking of his son Fong Cho Ming's performance, Jackie Chan honestly said that he had no scene with his son but he visited him on the set once.  He said, "I saw that he was bundled up like zong and didn't look like the general in the film, so I told him to take off his clothes!"  Big Brother did not excessively criticize and stated that his son's performance with so many elders was considered decent.  He said, "In the film's battle scene, how he held the gun already gave him away as an American kid!"  However, Bingbing disagreed and praised Cho Ming's performance as surprising.  She said, "Big Brother is excessively demanding of Cho Ming and in his heart he is just a kid.  This time he saw him expecting his imagination and was shocked!  His performance had power and heroics!"  Bingbing also said that Cho Ming was not in this condition in his past films and complimented that he had explosiveness in the film like an adult.

[2011.09.17] JACKIE CHAN'S PASSION SCENE IS REMOVED

courtesy of singtao.com

The film 1911 two nights ago held its Nanjing premiere.  Jackie Chan, Li Bingbing, Winston Chao (Chiu Man Suen), Joan Chen and Jaycee Chan (Fong Cho Ming) were among the attendees.  In the film, Jackie Chan and Li Bingbing played revolutionary couple Huang Xing and Xu Zonghan and had many intimate love scenes.  Li Bingbing even described them as very explosive, but finally the director cut them all.  Li Bingbing said, "When I shot the emotional scenes with Jackie Chan, he was very shy, nervous and tense, however we forgot about ourselves and performed."  She even praised Jackie Chan's acting as even more amazing.

Although the passion scene was cut, they were still the couple that caught the most attention in 1911 and even stealing Winston Chao's thunder as Dr. Sun Yat-sen.  Jackie Chan said, "No one would feel who stole whose thunder, at that age, every revolutionary was the lead."  Jackie Chan joked that before making this film he had no idea who Huang Xing was.

In the past, Jackie Chan was concerned that being accused of helping his son Fong Cho Ming and avoided working with him.  Cho Ming in 1911 played a revolutionary captain.  Jackie Chan said, "After THE KARATE KID, I saw Will Smith helping his son without any reservation.  French director was the same way.  I instead asked why I would be so traditional and avoided it?"  However, Jackie Chan only gave Cho Ming's performance 20 points.  He said, "Cho Ming worked on the film in negative 20 degrees Celsius, he was bundled up like a zong!"

[2011.08.30] JACKIE CHAN IS ARMED FOR REVOLUTION

Courtesy of singtao.com

The Jackie Chan executive directed, Zhang Li directed film 1911 two days ago promoted at the 14th Huabiao Awards in Beijing as Big Brother Jackie Chan led some of the cast to the event.

1911 will be Media Asia's 2011 National Day war epic release that stars Winston Chao, Jackie Chan and Li Bingbing.  The story is about the Xinhai revolution.  The Jackie Chan played Huang Xing (1874-1916) led the armed uprising.  During the revolution, he and Dr. Sun Yat-sen were often called "Sun Huang".  Sun Yat-sen was an idealist and a forerunner while Huang Xing was a doer.  Huang Xing started and personally participated in many important revolutionary events.

After numerous life and death encounters, Huang Xing finally succumbed to illness in his middle age and was key to overthrow the Qing Dynasty and found the Republic.  During the Revolution although he had a difference of opinion with Sun Yat-sen, he never fought for power and was willing to play support.

[2011.08.16] WINSTON CHAO LETS HIMSELF GET CLOSE TO DR. SUN

courtesy of takungpao.com

The film 1911 two days ago held its official microblog launch in Beijing. Playing Dr. Sun Yat-Sen in the film, Winston Chao stated that now a lot of information were learned through microblogs. Although he did not have one, he had a blog. To salute Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, he even personally wrote "All Under Heaven Are Equal".

Winston Chao in THE SOONG SISTERS and other films played Dr. Sun and thus earned the title of "Professional Dr. Sun Yat-Sen". He said that when Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting asked him to perform in THE SOONG SISTERS, he was in disbelief. Before the performance he even placed a painting of Dr. Sun at home to study. Later after he was familiar with his performance he took the picture down. This time was already the fifth time he played Dr. Sun. He said, "This time the image changed. I wore a mouth piece to lift up my face to look more like the character." How did this performance differ from his past ones? He said that biggest difference was this time the investment was very high, the production had the most attention and the image bared the most resemblance.

1911 was Jackie Chan's 100th film. He even directed and played Huang Xing. Winston Chao revealed that Jackie Chan would bring several cases of buns to the set every time for the team. The buns were so delicious that he still could remember it. He also revealed that once the location was very poor, many extras could not walk in the cold. Jackie Chan immediately jumped out and yelled at the extras, "Go everyone go! After the shoot anyone who wants a picture with me can come find me." At that time the extras were greatly encouraged and their conditions immediately improved.

1911 has been selected as a special opening film of the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival. Because the Tokyo Film Festival every year only selects one opening film and earlier it already announced THE THREE MUSKETEERS as the opening film, 1911 became the special opening film. This was already the first time since 1997 that it will have two opening films, which made the film festival feel even fuller.

Jackie Chan already agreed to attend the Tokyo Film Festival opening ceremony. The film festival will take place between October 22 and 30. This film was Jackie Chan's 100th film. He said, "My 100th film is selected as the Tokyo Film Festival special opening film, which I feel is a great honor. With this year Japan needs to work hard on its recovery, which makes this film festival even more meaningful. Heroes also always appear and even make sacrifices during a disaster, so I hope not to have heroes anymore. I sincerely wish my movie will be able to help ignite the determination of the Japanese people, and at the same time I look forward to be able to seeing the audience of Japan.

Director Zhang Li, writer Wang Xingdong along with Winston Chao (Chiu Man Suen), Li Bingbing, Sun Chun, Ning Jing, Hu Ge and others attended. Jackie Chan who played revolutionary Huang Xing even shouldered the film's chief director duty, but he was absent as he was working on a film in France.

One of the film's investors Media Asia film boss Peter Lam Kin Ngok yesterday attended the press conference as well. Speaking of rumors of Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi signing three years with Media Asia for 100 million, he honestly said that he read the report and admitted that Pak Chi went to the company to discuss scripts.

The film was based on the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, Huang Xing led Tongmenghui that took to an armed revolt. A scalpel that was on display in Dr. Sun's home was the prop that connected the entire film, which fully displayed the Xinhai Revolution.

In the film Li Bingbing played revolutionary Xu Zonghan, wife of the Jackie Chan played Huang Xing. They performed a romance during the war. Bingbing said that this was her second film with Jackie Chan. While playing Xu Zonghan she was filled with admiration for this woman who was gentle on the outside and strong on the inside. At the same time, as a first time film investor, executive producer and producer Bingbing said that she saw the box office potential for this film. "This film production was very tough, but I believe the result is great. I also believe viewers would definitely like this big film of an international subject."

Joining 1911: REVOLUTION was Winston Chao who played Dr. Sun for the fifth time and was called the "Professional Father of the Nation". Despite playing the role several times, he still said that the film performance would give him a lot of pressure. He said, "Ultimately no one dares to say he is 100% like him." Winston Chao revealed that in the film the Dr. Sun look "bared the most resemblance" and was more like the Xinhai Revolution Sun Yat-Sun image. During the shoot he wore a mouth piece to look more like him. He also thought that Dr. Sun was a very perfect person with such a greater love in his heart. This was what his
performance focused on.

At the press conference, the team revealed three official posters. The most heavyweight class poster with the red flag was particularly sharp, symbolizing the Xinhai Revolution's first flag for
the Chinese Revolution. According to the film company, the film has already sold its North American rights to Well Go. "The purchase of this film is not just because the film's historical significance but also because it is Jackie Chan's 100th film." Currently the film has already
entered its post production stages and will be released on the eve of the Xinhai Revolution 100th anniversary in September 2011 nationwide.

[2011.05.13] LI BINGBING HAS HER PICK OF FASHION FOR CANNES

courtesy of takungpao.com

Li Bingbing before heading to Cannes "took time" for the MARIE CLAIRE June cover. Like in SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN she played two characters, appropriately interpreting the delicate feeling between "old friends". On one side was the older sister Fan Yi, in a sexy leopard print strap dress and leather studded jacket she smiled as if she has seen all the world has to offer; on the other hand was the elegant "black swan", alone as if she has read all of the stage life.

Li Bingbing will bring SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN and 1911 (XINHAI REVOLUTION) to promote in Cannes and was already prepared for the red carpet. Because her influence among international brands and the films' own international attention, almost 30 top world class high class designers looked to work with her. The high class orders arrived like snowflakes from all over the world, with a rough estimate of 200 to 300 gowns for her to choose from. Even the worker said, "If all the high class order clothing prices were all added up, at least they would be over 30 to 40 million." Due to the high class order, the shipping and insurance costs naturally were high. The insurance alone was over 100 million. Top jewelry companies shipped valuable jewelry to Beijing. The jewelry that she has tried was over 200 million, as if she was in a real version of BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S.

It did not look like much but actually was very dangerous as it had numerous spontaneous combustion. Thus so far it has never been open to the public. The Liberation Army's "battle trench" was in a 200 meter deep shaft. Jackie Chan said, "I have never experienced such an adrenalin rush before. As soon as the production started, the entire set was in chaos. People kept falling down and the bombs blew up near you one after another. I could image how the soldiers fell in the rain of bullets.
