The Sked: MONDAY RATINGS December 19
CBS Monday hung on to first place last night (2.2 Adult 18-49 rating from 8-11 pm) with an all-repeat schedule. On this night last year (Monday, December 20, 2010), CBS averaged a 1.9 rating, also with repeats of its regular schedule: How I Met Your Mother (2.0), Rules of Engagement (1.9), Two and a Half Men (2.4), Mike & Molly (1.9) and Hawaii Five-O (1.7).

Hawaii Five-O 3.4 2.7 3.3 2.8 2.1R 3.0 2.8 1.8R
FOX provided the most significant competition to CBS last night, an original two-hour finale of Terra Nova from 8-10 pm (2.2 rating). Despite fairly heavy promotion in FOX NFL Sunday, the time travel series that, at times, featured dinosaurs finished near the season lows of the last few weeks. On this night last year, FOX averaged a 2.0 rating for a two-hour episode of Million Dollar Drop.
House 3.9 2.5 2.5 2.5 2.6 -- 1.3R --
NBC finished third on the night with a 1.7 rating from 8-11 pm. The premiere of the game show Who's Still Standing? started the night with a mediocre 1.5 rating, while Fear Factor's second week declined 31% from the time period premiere last week (2.4 vs 3.5 rating last week). Rock Center registered a 1.2 rating, at the high end of its narrow range of episode ratings. Last year on this night, NBC averaged a 2.2 rating from 8-11 pm: The Sing-Off (2.7) from 8-10 pm, Perfect Couples repeat (1.3) and Office repeat (0.9).

ABC had another rough Monday without the benefit of Dancing with the Stars or The Bachelor. Animated specials from 8-9 pm (Kung Fu Panda Holiday Special (1.3) at 8:00 and A Chipmunk Christmas (1.4) at 8:30) were the high water mark for the network's evening, followed by a slight uptick for You Deserve It (1.1 this week vs 0.9 last week) and a 1.0-rated Castle repeat. The network averaged a 1.2 rating last night, which is actually up considerably from the same night last year (a 0.7 rating from 8-11 pm for Skating with the Stars (0.5) at 8 pm, Castle repeat special (0.6) at 9 pm and Castle repeat (0.9) at 10 pm).

The Sked: MONDAY RATINGS December 12 -- Fear Factor Returns Big
CBS Monday won the night yet again with a 3.6 rating. The night was all originals, except for the benching of How I Met Your Mother. Freshman hit 2 Broke Girls aired at 8:00 pm and scored a 4.1 Adult 18-49 rating, about half a rating point below what it normally does at 8:30 and about three or four tenths below the recent level for How I Met Your Mother. At 9 pm, Two and a Half Men logged a sub-5 rating for the second time this year (4.6) and well below what the show did on this night last year (5.1 rating). Mike & Molly scored a 3.9 rating, not quite a season low (3.7) but toward the bottom of this year's results. Hawaii Five-O tied a season low for an original (2.8). While the ratings are still strong versus the competition on the night, the disruption of one half hour shows that even a strong schedule is vulnerable to even slight disruptions of a habit-driven schedule. Last year on this night (Monday, December 13, 2010): How I Met Your Mother (4.5), Rules of Engagement (3.8), Two and a Half Men (5.1), Mike & Molly (4.2) and Hawaii Five-O (3.9).

NBC found a hit show by going back to a reality show developed in 2001. Fear Factor returned to the schedule with a 3.2 rating for a special episode at 8 pm (good for second place) and a 3.5 rating for the time period premiere at 9 pm (also a very strong second place). Not surprisingly, a younger-skewing reality show (with equal parts helicopters, explosions and gallons of cow blood) did little to help a very old-skewing new magazine at 10 pm. Rock Center scored a 1.1 rating (1.3 and 0.9 rating by half hour), a fairly typical performance for the program. For the night, NBC averaged a 2.6 rating. Last year on this night: The Sing-Off (3.6) and Chase (1.2).

FOX fell to third place with a 1.8 rating. Terra Nova tied a series low (2.1), although that number could decline to a 2.0 in the official nationals because of a pre-emption in St Louis for the ESPN Monday Night Football game. Last night on this year: House repeat (1.5) and Lie to Me repeat (1.2).
House --- --- 3.9 2.7 3.1 --- 2.5 2.8 2.5 2.5 2.6 -- 1.4R
ABC crashed to fourth place on the night with a lowly 1.1 rating. The animated special I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown! pulled a 1.4 rating at 8 pm, while You Deserve It set another series low (0.9) and a Castle repeat bottomed out at a 1.0 rating. Last year on this night: Skating with the Stars (0.8), Mariah Carey special (1.2) and Castle (1.3).
