The Patrick Leung Pak Kin directed, Mini Yang Mi, Zhao Wenzhou, Louis Fan Siu Wong, Dennis To Yu-Hang, Xu Jiao, Paw Hee Ching, Lawrence Wong Hiu and others starred treasure hunt action film WU DANG held its first press conference in Wudang Mountain.  Yang Mi, Fan Siu Wong, To Yu-Hang, Wong Hiu and others appeared in costumes.  Yang Mi's Chinese and Western mixed style long boot look shocked everyone.  Fan Siu Wong's modern modified priest look also was refreshing.  The team even opened the treasure chest for the ceremony.

Yang Mi was very satisfied with her look and very professionally pointed out that her costume mixed in Bohemian elements.  Actually the film's costume designers was the Oscar Best Costume Design award winning
famous Japanese designer Emi Wada.  In her first action film Yang Mi faced three action stars Zhao Wenzhou, Fan Siu Wong, To Yu-Hang and did not show any weakness.  She said, "Although I am the worst fighter, in the film they all face defeat in my hand."  The hardcore kung fu stars also showed their weakness.  Zhao Wenzhou praised Yang Mi's good figure and powerful moves; Fan Siu Wong even joked, "She is so pretty, with just a look she can make everyone yield."  After the Wudang mountain scenes, the team will head to Shanghai for a major shoot.  The film hopes to make a summer release next year.

Law Chung Him's image plummeted after Theresa Fu Wing revealed that he was seeing four women at once and got rough with her.  Two nights ago he attended the film HONG KONG GHOST STORIES (MANG GWAI OI CHING GOO SI) press conference and kept his distance from female artists, in particular Chrissie Chau Sau Na who he has been linked to before.  She and her boyfriend Avis were rumored to be on the rocks, two nights ago she also clarified that their relationship has not changed.

Two nights ago the press conference took place in a Sai Kung elementary school.  Attendees included Chau Sau Na, Law Chung Him, Carol Yeung Chi Yiu, Nina Paw Hee Ching, Timmy Hung Tin Ming, Charmaine Fong Ho Man and New Jing Girl Tong Fei.  Chau Sau Na just returned from making a movie in Malaysia.  She said that during the shoot she accidentally burnt her kneecap.  After returning to Hong Kong her boyfriend Avis took her to see a doctor, but because the wound was not properly treated it was infected.  She worried that it would leave a scar.  While she was away, her boyfriend was accused of meeting girls all over.  She said that she was not mad at him and they trusted each other.  She also have met his female friends and knew nothing happened.  Did she ask her boyfriend to end his relationship with Fu Wing?  She immediately said, "They aren't friends, how would he?"  She jokingly asked her boyfriend to stay out of the sun to avoid low blood sugar, which might attract many "bees".

Him Jai again worked with Chrissie.  He said that he was not afraid of rumors because he was upstanding.  He also was not afraid of Chrissie's boyfriend visiting the set, as he would watch himself off the set to keep from inconveniencing others.  However as soon as Fu was mentioned, he already said that he did not want to discuss that.  Due to his poor image, his advertisement was sabotaged in Guangzhou.  Law Chung Him said that he knew about it and would not think about anything else.  Right now he would only cherish every job opportunity.  Would he remain celibate from now on?  He said, "It's not celibacy, but focus on work in
the long run."  This time in the film his character was also a "jerk".  Was he afraid that it was too close to home?  He pointed out that it might not be how it would turn out.

Carol recently was accused of dating DaDa Chen Jing's former boyfriend Wong Chung Hiu and even stealing someone else's boyfriend.  She clarified that she absolutely did not steal anyone's boyfriend.  That day they just went shopping together.  However he praised that Wong Chung Hiu was a nice guy who taught her a lot of things.  DaDa took a jab at her saying that stealing boyfriend was like reading an old book.  Carol immediately spoke up for Wong Chung Hiu and said that he was a person and not a book.

Myolie Wu Hung Yi, Nina Paw Hee Ching, Liu Kai Chi, Lam Ka Tung and Sammul Chan Kin Fung yesterday were guest presenters at the 8th Global Chinese University Student Film and Television Awards at the Baptist College. Some felt that Hong Kong film and television personnel had no successors, Sister Paw hoped that the industry could discover successors here. The annaul film industry event, the Hong Kong Film Awards, will take place Sunday. Sister Paw with CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI) was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. The film also had five nominations so everyone have already agreed to walk the red
carpet together. Who would Sister Paw like to win the most? She honestly said that she hoped Mimi Choo and the director (Ivy Ho) would win. Although Mimi Choo's victory would mean a loss for her as the favorite, she has already won before. She was already very satisfied with being recognized. She said, "In the past the same few won awards, actually Hong Kong has many good actors. More winners are good. (How likely do you think co-star Tang Wei would win the Best Actress?) Although she works very hard, (Carina) Lau Ka Ling's momentum is strong. In addition Tang Wei is very young and knows that her goal is to direct and develop in other areas. Thus she does not care about the award. In addition Ka Ling very much deserves to win." STOOL PIGEON (JING YUN) Best Supporting Actor nominee Liu Kai Chi had confidence in Best Actor nominees and co-stars Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung. He would like them both to win. He joked, "The palm is flesh, the back of the hand is flesh too. (That means Fat Gor doesn't need to win Best Actor?) No, Fat Gor deserves to win at any time." Who would be his favorite to win Best Supporting Actor? He talked like Donald Duck, if you understood then you did. "It is what it is, everything is in the silence."

[2011.04.11] HONG KONG FILM AWARD BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS COMPETITION IS FIERCE

courtesy of singtao.com

With six days away from the 30th Hong Kong Film Award, the countdown has begun. Let us first take a look at the Best Supporting Actress nominees, including CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI)'s Mimi Choo and Paw Hee Ching, GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI)'s Susan Shaw Yam Yam, CITY UNDER SIEGE (CHUEN SING GAI BEI)'s Zhang Jingchu and ONCE A GANGSTER (FEI SA FUNG JUNG SHUEN)'s Candy Yu On On. All are good actresses so the competition is fierce.

Taking a look at the five nominees, the 28th Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress Paw Hee Ching's acting has long been recognized. She has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 19th and the 23rd Hong Kong Film Award. This time in CROSSING she appeared in heavy make up and left a deep impression. Since she has already won Best Actress she had an edge. Her CROSSING co-star Mimi Choo has been in show business for years. Her acting also belonged to the substance school. However it still is her first nomination and she is less of a favorite.

As for the 27th Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress Shaw Yam Yam with THE PYE DOG (YEH LEUNG HUEN), she is nominated this year again. The competition this time does not lack Best Actress and frequent Hong Kong Film Award nominees, seemingly her chances are half cold. On the other hand Yu On On was nominated earlier with MY NAME IS FAME (NGOR YIU SING MING). After the defeat she returns again in the same category. Her unusually trendy mob mother in ONCE was pleasantly surprising and refreshing, her chances are higher. As for the frequent Hong Kong Film Award nominee in recent years, Zhang Jingchu has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress or Best Actress at the 25th, 27th and 29th Hong Kong Film Award. Although all three times the award brushed her by, she still keeps on fighting. Against strong competition her potential should not be overlooked.

[2011.02.11] PAW HEE CHING TALKS ABOUT NEW YIM HO FILM

courtesy of takungpao.com

ATV yesterday held a Spring luncheon. The administration greeted artists and media in the New Year and the acting director even distributed laisee to everyone. Attending artists included Paw Hee Ching, Lai Yin San, Lam Wai Shun, Adason Lo Lik Wai and other ASIAN MILLIONSTAR performers.

Paw Hee Ching after the Lunar New Year will work on Yim Ho's new film BAK NIN FAU SING (HUNDRED YEAR FLOATING CITY) and play a fisherwoman. The director thus asked her to lose weight and get tanned. For the character she stopped using hand lotion and began to get used to kneeling down and walking barefoot. The most important was turning sorrowful as she could not be full of smile like she was. Was this the biggest sacrifice in her film career? She said, "It's not the biggest sacrifice, but the biggest change. (How many pounds do you have to lose?) I am 130 something now, I hope to drop to 125. Yim Ho asked me to walk 40 minutes daily to lose weight. Luckily I tan easily. Once after working in Hengzhou for two hours I already turned African." In the film Aaron Kwok Fu Sing will play her son.

Many veteran artists and celebrities including Paw Hee Ching, Fok Chun Ting, Henry Fong Ping, Chow Chung and Ha Mung two nights ago attended Sil-Metropole Organization's 60th anniversary and New Year Spring Banquet. One of the guests Sister Paw said that this meeting made her sentimental.

She recalled. "Back then when Great Wall, Feng Huang and Sun Luen merged into Sil-Metropole, I was a student in their final training class!" The event also showed Sister Paw's early film. She said, "Back then I participate in the film CHU YUAN, I was only 19!" Did the director yell at her? She said that at the time the director was great and rarely yelled at actors. Reporters joked that because she was pretty she was not yelled at. Sister Paw said, "Maybe it's because I am smart. At the time I couldn't watch playback. I had to watch the director's reaction to know how I played!" She also revealed that back then she was the youngest actress. Two nights ago she ran into many directors and instructors in their 90s and praised the elders' spirit. She said, "Sister Ha Mung is forever beautiful!" Speaking of her classmates, Sister Paw said, "Now only Fong Ping and I are left. Many people switched jobs, maybe they went to produce in the Mainland."

Mainland star Huang Yi also attended. She said that due to work she stayed in Hong Kong, so she took time to attend. As for her future, she said, "In the future I may have to make a Hong Kong film and need to speak Cantonese, so I have to learn it well."

[2010.11.19] JOHNNIE TO HAS NO INTEREST IN REMAKE WONG TIN LAM CLASSICS

Sil-Metropole chief Song Dai, Johnnie To Kei Fung

courtesy of takungpao.com

Creating countless classic films, Great Wall, Phoenix and Sun Luen film companies after merging in 1982 to become the Sil-Metropole Organisation continued to create many excellent films. For everyone to relive these classic films, Sil-Metropole held a 60 Year of Movie Glory: From Great Wall, Feng Huang, Sun Luen to Sil-Metropole film exhibit. Last night an opening party was held and even invited Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. Director General of Publicity Hao Tiechuan, Sil-Metrophole president and CEO Song Dai and director Zhang Xinyan, Kong Han, Chow Chung and Paw Hee Ching to be guests. Other guests included Johnnie To Kei Fung and Clifton Ko Chi Sum.

Ah To revealed in 1976 and 77 during the Sun Luen era, he was the assistant director for Wong Tin Lam (Wong To) directed films. When will Uncle Tin Lam's funeral be? He said that Wong Jing contacted him and it might be in early December. As for whether he would be a pallbearer and attend the memorial, he left the decision to his immediate family, son Wong Jing. Speaking of Uncle Tin Lam's wish for him and Ah Jeh (Liza Wang Ming Chuen) to make up. He said, "He didn't say anything to me. We have always been good friends. For decades we have been trading verbal jabs. Friction doesn't represent we aren't friends or we are enemies. We have dined together. Uncle Tin Lam told me not to always argue with Ah Jeh. We haven't argued for years. (Will you hold a make up banquet?) If you want. (Ah Jeh says that she always thinks of you.) I always think of her too. (When you dined together were you at each other's throats too?) Not when we are eating, we only have friction at work. We both are more stubborn at work because we want to do well, but when we eat together we are friends."

Did Uncle Tin Lam have any last wish? He said, "He didn't have any special, maybe he has seen it all. He said that if he lived a day it was another day, as long as he was happy he was fine. Earlier I dined with him he didn't bring his dentures he still had a lot of fun. Would he make a movie to remember his mentor? He said it would not be necessary because everyone knew about him. Uncle Tin Lam was different in everyone's heart, as long as everyone remembered his brilliant days, made many directors and actors. If they wanted to remember him they could watch his past work. His favorite was Uncle Tin Lam's WILD WILD ROSE (YEH MUI GWAI JI LUEN) because he thought it was very forward. However he had no intention to remake it. Did he still miss Uncle Tin Lam very much? He immediately looked like he was about to cry and reporters did not follow up.

In addition, Sister Bau only had CHU YUAN in which she starred with her father Bao Fang. Her favorite WHITE HAIR DEVIL LADY (BAK FAT MOR NUI JUEN) was not selected, which she was honestly a little disappointed about. However during the Great Feng Sun era, she was a very young junior so she did not have any difference of opinion. CHU was her first costume film and the only film she worked on with her father, thus she thought it was very memorable. She said, "When I watched it again I couldn't recognize myself either, actually I used to be somewhat pretty." Speaking of Uncle Tin Lam's passing, he said that Uncle Tin Lam worked with her father many times. When she played mother roles, she did so mostly in Wong Jing's films. Thus their families were very familiar. Her impression of Uncle Tin Lam could not be deeper. She said, "He was a living dictionary of the film industry, he remembers film history very clearly and has a lot of experience to teach younger folks. I used to worry about him being too fat, but actually he was very agile and didn't have any diabetes and high blood pressure. Thus his passing felt very sudden." With one after another elder passing, she hoped everyone to cherish the remaining ones even more.

The John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) produced, Su Chao-Bin directed REIGN OF ASSASSINS (GYIM YU) two nights ago held its Hong Kong premiere. Leads Jung Woo-Sung and Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King) continued to play a sweet couple. Not only did they often hold hands, Jung Woo-Sung was even more attentive when Michelle ascended to and descended from the stage. He lightly held her hand and put his arm around her shoulder. During the confetti cannon he even helped Michelle, they were much sweeter than a real couple.

In the film, Jung Woo-Sung carried Michelle many times. The host asked them to demonstrate, Michelle joked that she was very heavy. Jung Woo-Sung said, "As long as I am carrying Michelle, I am willing to go anywhere." The host asked him what the difference was between Korean and Hong Kong girls. He lovingly looked at Michelle and said, "Michelle is the most important, she is the most special person." Michelle then leaned on his shoulder. To act with Michelle, Jung Woo-Sung said that the language was not the most important. As long as their hearts were connected, they would know what the other was thinking without speaking. Michelle who has not made an martial art action film in ten years said that she had pressure picking up the sword again. On several occasions she was worried that she would hit Big S (Barbie Hsu) because she was pretty.

While Michelle and Jung Woo-Sung were sweet from on screen to off screen, Shawn Yue Man Lok revealed that in real life Michelle and her boyfriend Jean Todt were also very sweet. He remember when Jean visited the set in Hengdian around Christmas. Although he lived in Europe he still could not take the Hengdian chill, but for Michelle he toughed it out. Ah Lok's former rumored girlfriend Emme Wong Yi Man was dating Chan Kwok Kwan. Ah Lok said that he would not talk about the past, as long as they were happy he was fine. Yet when he learned that they have not admitted to dating, he dodged all related questions. Has he seen Chingmy Yau Suk Ching's new born daughter? He also reluctantly said, "I am not at liberty to talk about others, but I have already congratulated them."

Paw Hee Ching 20 years ago worked with Ng Yu Sum in BULLET IN THE HEAD (DIP HUET GAI TAU). She naturally felt happy to be a part of his film again. Sister Paw siad, "When I saw the director, I was immediately much more confident." Her scene with Yue Man Lok was the most memorable to her because she had a double to instruct her on how to perform the scene, no wonder it was a big production.

[2010.09.29] JOHN WOO'S DAUGHTER MOVES HIM TO TEARS

courtesy of takungpao.com

The John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) produced wuxia film REIGN OF ASSASSINS (GIM YU) earlier held a premiere in Beijing. The segment that honored Ng Yu Sum was the most emotional, as the event displayed footage of his Venice award acceptance but suddenly added his daughter Angeles Woo (Ng Fei Ha)'s thoughts about his award. Ng Yu Sum broke down after seeing the words that her daughter said for him. Attending the premiere were director Su Chao-Bin, actors Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King), Jung Woo-Sung, Barbie Hsu (Tsui Hei Woon), Shawn Yue Man Lok, Wang Xueqi, Paw Hee Ching, Pace Wu (Ng Pui Chi) and Leon Dai Lap Yan. The entire audience gave a three minute standing ovation.

The actors proceeded to perform. Yue Man Lok stood out the most as he made noodles on stage. He then jumped rope with the noodles he made and lighten the mood. Most actors performed with swords. When Jung Woo-Sung drew his sword it broke in half. Actually it was a set up, the
missing half of the sword was already in Jung Woo-Sung's chest. Yeung Chi King and Jung Woo-Sung embraced each other. She said that from the first day of their collaboration they fought, later they held hands at any public event as a message of mutual support.

THE WAY WE ARE (TIN SHUI WAI DIK YUT YU YEH)'s actors Paw Hee Jing, Chan Lai-Wun, as well as Jim Tsim Shui Man, Lee Lik Chi, and Law Wai Guen came in support. Would he cherish his wife more? He laughed and said that he always has. Earlier a film critic pointed out that Yam Tat Wa has played many deranged characters before. This time he was in familiar territory. Brother Wa expressed that the revelation of this character was different. This was not a deranged character. Some Mainland film critics pointed out that he and Zhang Jingchu had too much star flaovr. He said, "I don't have star flavor, I can be a star, I can not be a star. This time in the film I am sloppy, which is an all new interpretation." Yam Tat Wa earlier did not win the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor. Was he confident about winning with this filM? He honestly said that a nomination every year would be great, as he rather enjoyed the participation. Was he afraid of the stress? He said, "No, stress is good. Only it brings challenges. Without stress I have no improvement. I may as well stop acting."

Sister Bao two nights ago came to support Ann Hui On Wa, she expressed that she would like to work with the director again should the chance arise. Earlier Sister Bao was so busy that she felt ill. Two nights ago she expressed that her body was already much better. Lately she was still working on ATV's FAMILY WISDOM. Reportedly Sister Bao's ATV contract would soon be up and TVB was interested in recruiting her. Once ATV found out it started production on a series in hopes of keeping her. Sister Bao honestly said that her contract would end in November but for now no one has approached her. She said that if she would go to TVB she would need to take a long time to start over. Reporters said that Tse Shuet Sum is working on TVB series. Sister Bao said, "Sister Sum used two years. Actually at my age it's no big deal." Sister Bao honestly said that she would prefer the company that she knew instead of a new challenge. Would money be a determining factor? Sister Bao laughed. "I will worry about it when someone really approaches me."
