The Golden Horse Award has come to an end.  One of the jury members Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga) stated that this year's judging process was fair and sensible.  Most of the jury did not know the final result.  The longest discussion was for the "Best Director" award, after three rounds of vote Ann Hui On Wa edged out LET THE BULLETS FLY's Jiang Wen and WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE's Wei Te-Sheng.  The second high scorer for Best Actress was Shu Qi, and Best Actor Andy Lau Tak Wa narrowly beat Ge You.

Ko Chen-Tung won the Best New Performer.  Cheung Ngai Ga said, "The New Performer award passed with one round, relying on the actor's strength and performance."  Back stage she praised Eddie Peng Yu-Yen for his infinite potential, only that this year's Best Actor competition was too strong.  As for Best Feature Film SEEDIQ BALE, Korean jury member Lee Chong-Dong said that the film won due to its inspiration for national films worldwide.

Mainland Best Actress Qin Hailu was nominated for Best Actress but finally won Best Original Screenplay.  Before presenting the award to herself, she joked on stage that the Golden Horse had a conspiracy.  Yet when director Fruit Chan Gor announced her name, she was very surprised.  She joked, "If you knew I really would win, I wouldn't have said that!"

The 48th Golden Horse Awards took place last night.  With its Venice Film Festival success earlier, A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH)'s master and maid pair Andy Lau Tak Wa and Deanie Ip Tak Han won Best Actor and Actress respectively.  Director Ann Hui On Wa won Best Director.  With 11 nominations Taiwan film WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE won four awards including Best Feature Film and Best Supporting Actor to become the big winner.  With 9 nominations LET THE BULLETS FLY won two awards.

Wa Jai defeated Ge You, Eddie Peng Yu-yen, and Wang Qianyuan to win Best Actor.  He said, "Like I said, I paid to win Best Actor.  Honestly, I never imagined it.  After I saw A PIANO IN THE FACTORY I  fell in love with him (Wang Qianyuan).  After Taiwan film toughed out its most depressed period, now Hong Kong film is at its lowest.  I too hope we will be able to tough it out."  After winning the Venice Best Actress, Ip Tak Han again won the Golden Horse Best Actress.  After "sonny" Lau Tak Wa announced her victory, he went on one knee to present to present the award to Ip Tak Han.  She said, "In the film I had a stroke, now I won an award.  Thank you Hui On Wa, Lau Tak Wa for giving luck in my old age."  Before unveiling Best Actress, Wa Jai critiqued the nominees.  He joked that Qin Haliu could act, direct and was cheap so she could go to work at his company.  Eric Tsang Chi Wai joked, "I understand who at your home doesn't spent money."  Wa Jai glared at him; Wa Jai continued and said that Shu Qi was the best woman to hold and even pushed Chi Wai to give it a try; as for Michelle Chen he directly said he loved her, which made Michelle Chen so happy that she made a heart gesture with her hands.  Chi Wai's daughter Bo Yi said Chi Wai was daring but finally still did not dare to ask whether Wa Jai's wife Chu Lai Sin was pregnant.  Chi Wai only dared to ask whether Wa Jai would have a child.  Wa Jai continued to avoid the question, "Let's see the nominees!"

When Hui On Wa heard that she won Best Director she immediately hug Lau Tak Wa.  After accepting the award she joked, "I am afraid that I am about to have a stroke!  Hopefully in the future when I receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, Big Brother Wang (Jimmy Wang Yu) will present it to me."  She said that this was a very gratifying film.  She was very happy to win an award, so happy that she would have a stroke.  Later she also wanted to share this award with Roger Lee because the story was his.  She also said that she did not have a hard time with Lau Tak Wa and Ip Tak Han.  Both gave a lot of opinions and exchanged ideas, their suggestions were great.  This was the film's second award after the Venice Film Festival.  She hoped that the film will be able to win even more awards and be a bigger hit.  She also hoped to more people would make this type of movies.

Best Supporting Actor and Actress went to SEEDIQ BALE's Bokeh Kosang and RETURN TICKET's Shanghai actress Tang Qun.  Boken Kosang defeated WU XIA nominee Wang Yu to win his first Golden Horse Award.  He said that he finally could breathe a sigh of relief.  He also said that he worked very hard on this character and thus he was more confident about acting in the future.  He also said that he never thought that he would win and thanked his mother and wife.  The award was worth all the hard work.  Later when Wang Yu presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to his late friend Ting Shan-Hsi he did not forget to poke fun at himself.  "I had a stroke but I definitely won't have an award."  Speaking of her award, Tang Qun said that she was just lucky.  Although this was her first film award, it might be her last.  She will always learn from her colleagues; Carina Lau Ka Ling, Wai Ying Hung and others lost to their elder Tang Qun before still congratulated her.

Best New Performer went to YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE's Ko Chen-Tung, who not only thanked director Giddens Ko for encouraging him to play this character but also Michelle Chen for continuously teaching him.  Only because of them did he have the chance to stand on the stage.  He said, "You have made my age 20 very perfect!"  Ko Chen-Tung was so happily back stage that he jumped.  Last night he said that he would wear a pair of red underwear for luck, finally he really won.  Reporters asked him to show everyone his red underwear.  At first he said that he had to ask his company, but after reporters persuaded him he finally dropped his pants for press photos.  Giddens Ko lacked a little luck and lost the Best New Director.

Becoming the New Taiwan Goddess with YOU, Michelle Chen said that she loved Lau Tak Wa the most.  Reportedly she called Lau Tak Wa Hubby.  Last night when she and Simon Yam Tat Wa presented an award, Yam Tat Wa who was also called Wa Jai joked, "Michelle Chen actually wants to work with this Wa Jai instead."  He then held her hands and could not let go, she could only awkwardly giggle.

Although this year's venue only had a capacity of 1,000 people and has been criticized as the smallest Golden Horse venue in history, the event was still star studded and attracted a lot of press coverage.

Before the race on the red carpet, Lau Tak Wa, Vic Chou Yu Man, Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) and Peng Yu-yen all wore suits and looked very handsome.  The ladies as usual dressed up.  Vivian Hsu (Tsui Yeuk Suen) walked the red carpet with the over 50 people SEEDIQ BALE team.  Because the entire team danced the Seediq dance of joy and celebration for their entrance, she perhaps did not want to destroy the beauty and just stood in the middle dumbfounded.  Later she admitted that she did not take any wardrobe malfunction precaution because the material was bigger than her chest.  Shu Qi's long dress look was low key yet sexy.  Solo attendee Carina Lau Ka Ling appeared in a gray and black evening gown that was elegant and graceful.  Others like Angelica Lee Sinjie, Rene Liu (Lau Yeuk Ying) and Wai Ying Hung all appeared in low cut evening wear.

Japanese star Aoi Miyazaki walked with Chen Bo-Lin.  Aoi Miyazaki was very happy to be a part of this event and praised Bo-Lin as a very gentle gentleman.  The hosts were father and daughter Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Tsang Bo Yi.  Bo Yi hoped to work with her father to make the program its best.  She also said that this year was Taiwan film's take off year so she believed it definitely would be very exciting.  When Lau Tak Wa appeared with Deanie Ip Tak Han and director Ann Hui On Wa on the red carpet, fans cheered enthusiastically.  Speaking of his wife Chu Lai Sin's pregnancy rumors, Wa Jai continued to keep his mouth shut about his family, "Don't ask about family matter, don't ask about our home now."

During the opening, Chi Wai and Bo Yi both wore aboriginal costumes and school uniform for a SEEDIQ BALE and YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE nominated film medley.  Chi Wai's facial tattoo turned out to be seaweed accessories.  Bo Yi delivered YOU's classic line, 'Big idiot, you are a big idiot!"  Chi Wai said, "If I wasn't an idiot why would I have you."  Bo Yi also joked that many people wanted to asked Lau Tak Wa a question but did not dare to, but her father dared to raise his middle finger at the the Great Hall of the People so only he would dare to ask.

[2011.11.07] SHU QI COMPLIMENTS MICHELLE CHEN

courtesy of takungpao.com

The 48th Golden Horse Film Festival's 10+10 film joint creative project opened already.  The film consisted of 20 directors' 5 minute short films.  Participating directors included Kevin Chu Yen Ping, Wu Nien-Jen, Chang Tso-Chi, Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga), Chen Kuo-Fu, Leon Dai, Wei Te-Sheng, Hou Hsiao-Hsien and others.  Golden Horse chair Hou Hsiao-Hsien worked with Shu Qi and Mei Fang on THE GOLDEN STRING.  In the story a mother was afraid that her daughter would need money after marriage and left her a gold tile, which symbolized inheritance.  Hou Hsiao-Hsien said that "gold" was something that absolutely would not change, and "string" was a value and a belief.  "Golden String" meant a value that would not change.

Shu Qi, Mei Fang and Director Hou earlier appeared at the opening ceremony press conference.  Director Hou praised Shu Qi's deeper and deeper acting abilities.  She only needed the slightest of hints to be able to perform the feeling that he wanted.  However Shu Qi said that some of THE GOLDEN STRING's content was too impractical.  For example in the film the mother wanted to give her daughter gold for emergency money.  Shu Qi said that after the film she went home and asked her mother for gold.  Finally her mother said, "You have to give it to me, not me to you."  She joked that now the times have changed, daughters had to buy gold for mothers.

Shu Qi with BEAUTIFUL LIFE received a Golden Horse Best Actress nomination.  When asked about her confidence, Shu Qi humbly said, "Actually I feel like I already got it.  The nomination to me already is a type of recognition.  The competition actually is very strong."  As for the now very popular Michelle Chen, Shu Qi had nothing but compliment for her potential.  She said that in HEAR ME Michelle Chen has already touched her.  Director Hou said that Taiwan film's potential has already reached a mature level and even saw a lot of variety in Taiwan film development, which was Taiwan's advantage.

[2010.11.23] LAM KA TUNG DECLINES TO COMMENT ON THE GOLDEN HORSE RESULTS

courtesy of takungpao.com

Lam Ka Tung yesterday attended a Metro radio interview. Ka Tung's film GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) received a Golden Horse nomination. Ka Tung said that he attended the event earlier. Since it was the nomination he had to attend. This time was also an experience.

Speaking of this year's Golden Horse Award controversy due to most of the awards going to Taiwan films, Ka Tung said, "Are you asking me if it was fair or not? I didn't watch all the movies, I can't say whether it was right or not. Every place has its own judging standard, respect is the most important." He honestly said that this time the winners were somewhat surprised. He agreed with Hou Hsiao-Hsien's comment that Taiwan needed stars. He also praised that Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) had change in his character interpretation and great improvement. Speaking of Eric Tsang Chi Wai's son Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung losing the Best New Director award, Ka Tung pointed out that Chi Wai was able to be with his children (Tsang Kwok Cheung and Tsang Bo Yi) and the scene was already very exciting.

[2010.11.23] CECILIA YIP FINDS EARLY RESULT LEAK HARD TO BELIEVE

courtesy of takungpao.com

The 47th Golden Horse award ended last Saturday, but after the face rumors were still numerous. Not only was the result under accusations of everyone getting a piece, but the results were rumored to have been leaked. One of the judges Cecilia Yip Tung yesterday promoted her new series in Taipei. After a long time away from the Taiwan series, she honestly said that this time she took the role because of the script and the character. She also was very glad to work with a new generation of Taiwan actors. As for the rumor that the Golden Horse Award results were leaked early, she found it hard to believe. Because the jury process was tightly under lock and key, even she did not know the results and she did not know why such a rumor would exist. As for the newly crowned Best Actor Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin), Yip Tung had high praises for him and his full display of inner emotions in MONGA. He had endless potential and she looked forward to working with him.

In addition, famous director Cheung Tso-Chi who won four major awards including Best Feature Film yesterday attended a Jonathan Lee Chung Sing promoted Simply Life Festival press conference and shared his thoughts on life. As for the media suspicion that the Golden Horse Award results gave a piece to everyone, Cheung Tso-Chi said that he was nominated previously as well but went home empty twice. He believed the jury was fair and he had confidence in the Golden Horse Award committee.

[2010.11.22] SYVLIA CHANG IS RELAXED DESPITE LOSING

Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga)

Lu Liping
courtesy of on.cc

Nominated for the Golden Horse Best Actress with BUDDHA MOUNTAIN, Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga) lost to CITY MONKEY's Lu Liping but was not disappointed. She even sincerely wished the fresh out of the oven Best Actress Lu Liping well and thought this award was even more meaningful to Lu.

Cheung Ngai Ga said, "I have been nominated for many years already, I already have many people's recognition and admiration. (The vote count was close?) I only found out when you told me. Before the race I was very nervous, instead after the announcement I was all relaxed. Doing my job well is the most important. (Ethan Juan won Best Actor at a young age.) Not only him, we can give more opportunities to new comers!"

Best Actor Lu Liping cried out of excitement when she accepted the award on stage. She said, "In the film I played a low level hotel laundry worker, thank you Lord for giving me this character. I remember Director (Sammo) Hung Kam Bo said that I had to show my real side, no need to pretend. As long as the emotion expressed was real then it was fine. I would continue to work hard and would not be in a hurry to succeed. (You beat strong rivals Cheung Ngai Ga and Xu Fan?) I didn't think about who I beat, I am very grateful."

[2010.11.22] ETHAN JUAN KEEPS ON CRYING

courtesy of on.cc

courtesy of takungpao.com

Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) jumped from idol series to the film industry and successfully won the Golden Horse Best Actor with his first nomination. Although outsiders suspected that Siu Tin won due to the Golden Horse Awards bias for the "Taiwan Gang", the jury pointed out that Siu Tin won completely due to his expression when he looked back in one scene. It was unconventional and had depth. Reportedly big directors like Ang Lee and Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga) were already interested in working with this new Best Actor. Siu Tin two nights ago attended several celebration. Already in tears backstage, Siu Tin continued to be a "crybaby" at the celebration. He also thanked his girlfriend Tiffany Hsu for always supporting him. Agreeing to give him whatever he wanted when Siu Tin won, Tiffany Hsu joked that she would give her boyfriend 100 massages as a reward.

Siu Tin won his first Best Actor, two nights ago after the ceremony he attended four celebration banquets and was in great spirits. Siu Tin first attended the event celebration, then he attended the celebration with Best Actress Lu Liping and the BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING) celebration. Later he and girlfriend Tiffany Hsu attended his management company's celebration. This couple at first sat very far apart, then at the request of reporters they toasted and posed for photos. Tiffany Hsu also gave a hug to congratulate Siu Tin.

When her boyfriend won, Tiffany Hsu said that her mind went blank and made screaming impossible. What would she give Siu Tin? She joked that she would give Siu Tin 100 massages as a reward. Would she wed to celebrate? She honestly said that she did not plan to. Speaking of Siu Tin thanking her for her years of support, she said that Siu Tin back then after making idol series thought about quitting, but she always cheered for him. Finally seeing him smile was already enough.

Siu Tin already broke down during backstage interviews and he was still crying during the celebration. He said that he brought Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting)'s cardboard cut out to the stage completely because an early promise. he pointed out that during the shoot they built a very deep friendship. Speaking of girlfriend, he honestly said that he really appreciated her. Whether he was depressed or unpleasant, his girlfriend kept him company. He joked that he was a "troublemaker". He honestly said that he never thought about winning, on the way many have helped him and he was very certain about who they were. Many brothers and fans were very supportive, but he could not thank each and every one of them due to time constraint. He believed that they knew. Siu Tin also said that he was very relaxed at the moment before winning. When his name was called he still was not nervous. At the time his mind was blank. He thanked his grandfather the most. Because he used to be very rebellious and spent many years in high schools. His grandfather always supported him and secretly gave him money. Would he propose to Tiffany Hsu after the award? Siu Tin said that was a different matter. Currently he had to focus on work, he hoped to win another Best Actor award within the next 20 years.

The jury felt that Yuen King Tin broke through his idol image and performed well in the film, in particular his expression when he looked back in one scene was unconventional and had depth. He led in both rounds of voting. Siu Tin's victory was called "the light of alternative Taiwan". Siu Tin said that when he was an athlete he did not become the light of Taiwan. He did not defeat his competition, only this time he was luckier. Performance had no border. He hoped that everyone could put in an effort for Chinese films. Reportedly, after Siu Tin won, big directors like Ang Lee and Cheung Ngai Ga wanted to work with this new Best Actor.

[2010.11.21] 28 YEAR OLD ETHAN JUAN WINS GOLDEN HORSE BEST ACTOR

courtesy of on.cc

Surprised Best Actress Lu Liping and Best Actor Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin)
courtesy of takungpao.com

The 47th Golden Horse Award last night took place in Taoyuan, Taipei. This year's results were considered surprising, as first time nominee, the 28 year old Ethan Juan (Yuan King Tin) won Best Actor with MONGA. Mainland actress Lu Liping also won Best Actress with the Mainland film CITY MONKEY. Taiwan film WHEN LOVE COMES won Best Feature Film and with another Outstanding Taiwan Film of the Year award winner THE FOURTH PORTRAIT became this year's big winners. Both films received three awards. With nine nominations BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS almost went home empty handed, winning on Best Make Up & Costume Design as Nicholas Tse Ting Fung's Best Supporting Actress triple crown dream shattered.

This year's Golden Horse Award results were surprising as the pre race favorite BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS received only one award. This year also belonged to Taiwan films as they won most major awards. Both Best Actor and Best Actress were surprises as Yuen King Tin won MONGA defeated Wang Xueqi. When Siu Tin learned that he won, he was completely surprised, then he brought his good friend Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting)'s cardboard figure on stage. He joked that he had to introduce this brother to everyone. Siu Tin tearfully said that he was already very happy about the nomination as the thought that it would be great to win within 20 years. He truly did not expect to win. He thanked director Doze Niu Chen-Zer and producer Lee Lieh, his parents and grandparents for their support. Without them, he might have already left this business.

At the moment of announcement, hostess Dee Hsu (Tsui Hei Tai) did not forget to have a little fun at the expense of Siu Tin and his girlfriend Tiffany Hsu. Tiffany Hsu said that if Siu Tin won she could give him anyway. Little S asked Siu Tin if he wanted a hug and a kiss, Siu Tin joked, "Those could be done everyday at home." Tiffany Hsu laughed with embarrassment. When she learned that her boyfriend won, Tiffany Hsu covered her face and breathed a sigh of relief. Fresh out of the oven Best Actress Lu Liping was emotional when she accepted the award as tears covered her face. She not only thanked the Lord but also the Golden Horse Award jury, her husband's encouragement and their son. She also pointed out that she was 50 year old and she has not had such a holy experience in a long time. She also hoped that she would have a chance to be able to work with famous directors Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Lee Heng, Ang Lee and Kevin Chu Yen Ping in the future.

First time Golden Horse hostess Little S last night kept making fun of handsome guys. Siu Tin last year presented Best Makeup & Costume Design with Janine Chang. Little S joked that she predicted Siu Tin's nomination a long time ago and jokingly asked how Siu Tin would thank her. Siu Tin humorously responded, "I can't give you my heart, but I can give you my body." Little S was caught off guard with such a surprising answer. Little S also pretended to kiss Siu Tin and asked him why he brought girlfriend Tiffany Hsu, who giggled in embarrassment off stage.

Pre race favorite Tse Ting Fung earlier won the Hong Kong Film Award and Asia Film Festival Best Supporting Actor. Last night he lost to Taiwan film SEVEN DAYS IN HEAVEN's Wu Peng-Fon. Before presenting the Best Supporting Actor, Little S went off stage to ask Ting Fung how he would thank her for the award. Ting Fung said, "Didn't you already have Siu Tin?" Little S joked, "Siu Tin is clothed, but you......" She stared at Ting Fung who was not dressed until his suit. Later she did not spare her sister Barbie Hsu's old flame Lan Cheng-Long, who was a guest presenter. Little S asked him about Big S' wedding. Lan Cheng-Long awkwardly joked, "I think I would give her WELL WISH OF BREAK UP. I understand her pretty well, she is very brave and I am very envious of her."

Yesterday the event invited Elva Hsiao (Siu Ah Hin), Alan Tam Wing Lun and Mr. as guest performers. They performed a series of famous film songs.

The 47th Golden Horse Award took place last night. At 6PM guests and artists gradually arrived on the red carpet. Although this year many female stars were present, they all dressed conservatively and the hunks Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung stole their thunder. MONGA Best Actor nominee Yuen King Tin wore a black tuxedo and arrived with MONGA producer Lee Lieh and composer Sandee Chen. Siu Tin's appearance immediately led to cheers. How did Siu Tin feel about his chances against three experienced actors in competition? He said, "I don't have any pressure. When I should be nervous, I was already nervous during the shoot. I am at peace." The other hunk Tse Ting Fung arrived with the BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS team. Ting Fung wore a suit and sunglasses, with his hands in his pant pockets he appeared in his usual unconventional manner. Cheer immediately arose. When guest performers Alan Tam Wing Lun and Mr. arrived, fans immediately raised light boards to support Alan. Guest presenters Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Jam Hsiao (Siu King Tung) appeared together. His son Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, daughter Tsang Bo Yi followed tightly. Tony Leung Ka Fai and Wai Ying Hung walked the red carpet hand in hand. Siu Hung wore a purple evening gown.

Most female artists were dressed conservatively. Singing a duet with Alan, Elva Hsiao (Siu Ah Hin) appeared in a low cut black dress and looked like a mermaid. She even shook hands with fans. Vivian Hsu (Tsui Yeuk Suen) wore a low cut almond v neck evening gown. Then the film
JULIETS team arrived. Li Bingbing and Nick Cheung Ka Fai arrived. Bingbing wore sequenced light blue evening gown and looked elegant. Lin Chiling arrived in a black evening gown but was conservative. First time Golden Horse hostess Dee Hsu wore a single strap white evening gown and arrived with host Kevin Tsai Kang-Yung, who wore a birdcage on the head. Other guests included Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Siu Tin's girlfriend Tiffany Hsu, Lam Ka Tung and others. Jackie Chan, Ang Lee, and Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga) closed the red carpet ceremony.

collected. Emperor stated that it would try to make time for him to attend.

The Taiwan director Doze Niu Chen-Zer's MONGA did not received Best Feature Film or Best Director nominations. However he and producer Lee Lieh both have been nominated for Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year along with one of SEVEN DAYS IN HEAVEN director Essay Liu. As for Best Actor nominee Siu Tin felt very happy and only regretted that
director Niu Chen-Zer was not nominated for Best Director. However he has talked with the director over the phone and felt that everyone have worked hard for the film. One of Siu Tin's opponents would be BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS' Wang Xueqi, who Siu Tin honestly said he liked. Thus he was very happy to be nominated with him. If he truly won he won it for the
film. However he did not feel any pressure because he understood that it was beyond his control. He also said that at first when he switched from modeling to acting he thought about quitting, he never expected to be finally recognized now.

AFTERSHOCK received three nominations. Aside from Best Visual Effects, actresses Xu Fan and Zhang Jingchu received Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress nomination respectively. Investor Media Asia was very happy and thought that Xu Fan and Zhang Jingchu deserved the
nominations. Less than perfect was the lack of Best Director and Best Feature Film nominations.
